  1. That's an absolute no-brainer. Obviously, the more valuable the player, the higher the importance of getting it right. The most successful companies I ever worked for seldom made any mistakes at any level.
  2. The reason why we suck hasn't changed since I first started posting it-Story, Anthony, Duran, Crochet and Bello. And even Bello has delivered two massive efforts B2B.
  3. There's been a few times in the past several years where I thought 'if they just stopped playing, everyone else will pass them in reverse.
  4. Not to detract from your point, but the Brewers have made the playoffs in 7 of the last 8 years, averaging about 92 wins.
  5. We had someone in here lambasting Abreu. I believe there are fans in here that know very little about the team. Which is fine, but then they should soften their opinions.
  6. That's one of my nitpicks. I buy into the need to put the ball in the air. But past a certain angle, it's either a HR or an easy pop-up.
  7. That was the point I was trying back-hand to make. Over the course of a full season, the highest scoring teams will always have an above-average number of LOBs. You cannot have a lot of LOBs if you don't have a lot of hitting.
  8. I agree 100%. Good framing forces the players into making sub-optimal ABS challenges. If a catcher cannot fool an umpire into making a bad call, then every challenge will be successful. If a catcher can pull a ball 1/2 inch off the plate, into the strike zone, early in the game, the batter won't challenge it.
  9. Does Talksox have a poitical thread that these rantings can be dumped into?
  10. Sure, but neither is his current salary. Without the contract, we'd still be paying him. We'd just be paying him more.
  11. This seems to be a RS trend, but why does a player have to be great to get extended? I would lock in anyone that has a good work ethic and is likely to stay healthy, assuming the $$$ numbers were good. If Abreu has a love for Boston, and will give us two option years, in exchange for us guaranteeing his three arb years, I wouldn't think twice about doing it.
  12. He's averaged 4.0 bWAR/162 games over the past three years. Next year, in his first arb year, he'll get paid $3.75M. This is one of the best contracts the RS have ever signed.
  13. I'm not sure that makes any sense. If they didn't rank RA #1, then they'd have ranked someone else #1,
  14. They started him because they had no other starting 2B. In 2024, our 2B OPS was so far, we weren't even on the same map as the #29th ranked team.
  15. And a meteor can land in my yard and strike an oil reservoir. But we need to rely on math for this exercise.
  16. DRS = 0 OAA = -1 FRV = -1 I'm not concerned about his defense, if he reverts back to his 2025 hitting.
  17. We would owe him $102M. If he is only good for three years, which I doubt, then he costs us $34M pr.
  18. No, but that is the only alternative. You can sign them cheap, before they've proven themselves, or you can sign them for a lot more money, after they have proven themselves. But you have to choose a lane.
  19. The more LOBs you have, the more runs you've scored, After you've processed that, we'll move onto scoring 102.
  20. Disagree with us giving him the opt outs? There is a good chance Bogaerts leaves without us even getting those first three years.
  21. Higher OBP leads to higher scoring, Take a look at the ten highest OBP teams from almost any year, and they will mostly the highest scoring teams. More HRs will lead to more scoring, but there are always team with a lot of HRs that are not atop the scoring board. I will provide some analysis later,
  22. Only if one thinks he will be effective for the length of his contract. Someone like Tatis will be paid until he is 35, at which point, he might still be making a contribution. Guys like Machado and Bogaerts might be out of the league for 3-4 years before their contracts end. Age matters. I doubt Marte will be good for three years, but even if he is, you're effectively still paying him $34M a year.
  23. I agree he thinks too much, but Boston has not bothered him at all in 24-25.
  24. Runs and total bases are not 'old' stats. Even HRs still count, though not as relevant as OBP. The correlation between OBP and runs scored is very high.
  25. 6 years, but Bogaerts could (and did) opt out after three years. Still very lucrative for us. I'd like to see the RS engage in more contracts where we grant an opt-out, but retain an option to buy out the players' option. So if Bogaerts declines the final $60M/3, we have the option of replacing that with say, a $100M/3 contract.
