  1. I don't see any way on God's good earth that we had any shot at all. Even with the injuries and strikeouts, Neto is a 5+ WAR player, with 6-7 WAR upside. I think the Angels' ask would start with Arias, Witherspoon and Tolle. If I were the Pirates, I'd start with Seth Hernandez, and might go up to Bubba Chandler.
  2. One of my friends, a real BB guy, mentioned that 2B is more a position of agility than pure athleticism. And that Durbin's height will work for him, while Mayer's height might work against him. I'm good with that argument.
  3. Yeah, but I said Mayer should be the SS. Who are they going to listen to?
  4. Probably 20% of the league, and probably the same as every team. I'd bet real money that Philly, Pitt and the Reds got 29 calls each on Painter, Chandler and Burns. There is probably a fantasy BB aspect to this where every GM is making calls for anyone they think can fit, or anyone they think they could steal.
  5. I'm cool with that. But right now, why can't we consider all three positions as 'openings'? Story shouldn't play 3rd, and Durbin shouldn't play SS, but I see no reason we can't play any alignment we want.
  6. Just a 'real baseball' type of question. Do RPs need the same level of development as SPs do?
  7. Where's Kimmi on this? She usually lives for ST pictures. I wonder what you need to do to become a catcher for these guys warming up? 20 pitchers, so you need 20 catchers, right? As long as they throw nothing but fastballs, there is a chance I won't get too badly hurt.
  8. Yes and yes, but probably no. I figure Yoshi is roughly $26M under-water. If we swapped him for Casty, you could cut Casty the next day and be ahead. But I wouldn't pay $9M. And I kind of would prefer to not have Casty on the team. Try the same thing with O'Neill instead.
  9. I think we need to switch out Yoshi for a RH version of Yoshi, but even at that, I'd be fine with shutting down the FO for a few weeks.
  10. We have a lot of noise, but imo, it is less than it seems. Monastery will replace Romy and the other two are AAA depth.
  11. A bridge too far for sure. The Angels will probably be bottom-5, so they'd want all prospects. We just don't have enough. I admire Breslow's aim though.
  12. A BP arm, and maybe finding a trade partner with an overpaid RH DH. I'm still trying to find a way to get O'Neill back in exchange for Yoshida. Maybe attach enough of a minor prospect to entice trading their problem for our problem.
  13. FG projects a 102.4 wRC+. We should be above-average, though less than top-10.
  14. 1,286 IPs at 2b in the minors. That was his primary position.
  15. As someone else suggested, I think I'd prefer to see Story at 2nd, Mayer at SS, and Durbin at 3rd.
  16. One might suggest that will be considered a bad trade by those who think every Red Sox trade is a bad trade. That will never change.
  17. It's a bit of a moot point. If Harrison starts for Mil, and does well, I don't care. He would be unlikely to have gotten the same opportunity with us to prove himself..
  18. No, but Devers is highly unlikely to have 6 WAR per season.
  19. This looks like a very good team to me.
  20. I don't see it. If the starting (and regular) infield isn't Contreras, Story, Mayer & Durbin, I'd be surprised.
  21. Other than that, the Devers tree looks pretty good to me. They traded someone who had a 2.6 fWAR in 506 PAs for someone with a 3.3 in 729 PAs, and oh, making $31M more. It's tough to put too much reliance on rookie numbers, but as of today, how are we not ahead in this trade?
  22. Juan Soto and Rafael Devers share similar profiles. To suggest that Soto and Devers are similar in any way alike is 100% false. Soto (160 OPS+ v 129) is a much better hitter, a much better runner (38 SBs last year v -0-) and a much better fielder (-2 DRS/year v -9 DRS/year).
  23. It's amazing when you add up the pieces. We had to give up a minor piece when dumped Hicks, but this is basically a trade of a $32M Devers for a minimum wage Durbin. It's early, but the projection aren't particularly far apart.
  24. Kurtz has not been extended so far as I know. So do you think the A's were correct in waiting? Or do you think they should've extended when he first came up?
  25. A little early to be giving up on KC. Hitting ML pitching takes time. Certainly more than the 70 AAA AB's we gave him prior to his promotion.
