  1. I've always counted out Romero. But he never quite gets crossed off my list. He always does a just enough for me to pay 'some' attention to him.
  2. Impossible to know. Last year, PCA started off on fire and then disappeared. Suzuki started off great, then disappeared, then picked it up in September. There are way too many variables to draw any conclusions.
  3. That 3-2 pitch should've been challenged. There is a huge difference between a guy on 1st with -0- outs, and no one on and one out,
  4. No problem at all. He could easily be having a positive impact, but the improvement could easily be chalked up to Ballesteros playing fulltime, or the signing Conforto to a minor contract.
  5. That's about right. At the end of the day, I think the approximately trade asks were: Abreu for Paredes, and that wasn't going to work for us. Tolle + Mayer, and that wasn't going to work for us.
  6. If a guy is in a slump, like Anthony is, or Duran (hopefully) was, then I don't even pay any attention whatsoever. But Story is at a point where I truly believe a pitcher can go an entire game throwing nothing but balls, and Story still couldn't get a walk. If I were the TB pitching coach, I'd tell my pitcher to not throw a strike unless he gets down 3-0 in the count.
  7. There goes the play of the game. Guy on 1st, no outs, and Story swings at a 3-2 pitch 3 inches below the knees. This after swinging a a 1-0 count that was about 6 inches outside.
  8. Bregman woud be a surprise. He's only been a .799 over the past 6 years, In order to reach .800, I think he'd need about an .846 the rest of the way. Marte has an .849 over the past 6, and would have to average an .863. So possible for both, but less than likely. But more importantly, the .846 and .863 only get them back to being a good player, not great players.
  9. Among the younger players: Busch -149 Hoerner +27 PCA -57 Shaw +92 Tough to draw out any conclusions from that.
  10. The worst part of the contract is the player-option part. If he continues to stink it up, he is still guaranteed $42M for next year, and $42M for the following year.
  11. It's funny for someone purporting to be a RS fan to be unaware that Rafaela has a 116 OPS+ and probably the best glove in the game.
  12. Who was the poster that was complaining non-stop about him a few days back? I don't usually listen to the ramblings, but Abreu should be an AS.
  13. It's supposed to be hard. If any of these players were no-brainers, their price would be higher that whatever it wound up being. And I don't take umbrage at fans preferring to sign Bregman over Suarez. I disagree, but there is merit to both approaches. What I do object to is posters thinking that the FO has to HAS to sign whomever they prefer, and that's usually a HR hitter with few other attributes.
  14. Here's his quote: The jury is still out on Bichette and E Suarez too. The season is early No one has ever lost money betting against my memory, but no one should challenge me on something I read 5 minutes ago.
  15. As I like to point out, if the team is not ahead in the contract after year 1, it is unlikely they will ever be ahead.
  16. I do remember Fred pointing out Rafaela's 2 Ks in his first ST game as evidence of his collapse.
  17. That's a genetic thing with some RS fans. It's still early for the other 29 teams, and the other754 players. But the sets in early April for the RS.
  18. It's unquantifiable to say what he might have been had he stayed. But moving off 3rd was already locked in. I happened to be looking at career DRS for another player, and noticed that Devers was already up to #14 in negative DRS, and he has years to go. Had he stayed at 3rd, he might have been the #2 worst in history (behind Jeter). FWIW, Bogaerts is #10 worst, and could crack the top-5 before he retires.
  19. Pitching doesn't age like hitting does. It still ages, mostly hurt, but I think you'll have more successful 34+ pitchers than hitters.
  20. Just so I understand: Contreras currently > Alonso, but the jury is still out. Fair enough. You agree we should not have signed Bregman. I assume that, no matter what your original opinion was (pro or con) you agree that we should not have signed Bichette (.571), Suarez (.663) or traded Tolle or Early ++ for Marte (.614)?
  21. Fred thinks we signed Gaspar for minor league pay as some sort of equivalent to spending $42M on Bichette. But even worse, he is the last person on the planet that still wants Bichette.
  22. So we made the right move not signing him? And I assume everyone agrees that adding Contreras over Alonso was correct as well. Is it that two rights make a wrong?
