The Magic Number is now 9 with 17 games left. I'd say we're in. I was concerned with Toronto's easy schedule remaining but but they lost their last two.

The teams behind the Sox have been .500 for most of the year. None of them have come close to making any sort of run and don't seem to want to.

Off topic but Toronto has to be wondering what's going on with Guerrero Jr.

Small correction, the magic number is 10  Toronto is still in the 4 slot.  163 - 80 Sox wins - 73 Blue Jay losses = 10.  Same math applies to Texas, who also are at 73 losses.

Sox do not hold the tiebreaker over Toronto as the Jays took the season series 9-4.  They have 3 left with the Rangers; Sox took 2 of 3 earlier this year.

To get the magic number, you start with 163, not 162.  If you use 162, two teams that have the same record would both get their magic number to 0 vs each other but neither would have clinched a playoff slot (I’m not getting into tiebreakers). In theory, one would need 1 more win (a winner take all playoff  game in the old days

My only mistake was thinking the Sox owned both tie breakers.

A couple of things:

The 2021 stats were a mirage.  Because of Canada, they spent a lot of their home games in US minor league fields.  Take away the Sahlen and TD Ballpark results, and Vlad looks like a very good, but not great hitter.  That said, 2025 was one of the best playoff performances ever.

Best time to trade a hitter is halfway thru their free agency contract, or age 32.  The number of under-performing contracts at age 33 is legendary.

You mean the park that sells out even with crappy teams and that people travel thousands of miles to see, that is familiar to  and loved by many of us for well over a half-century and is instantly recognizable to all baseball fans and is far more interesting than the crappy symmetrical stadia of the 70s and that serves as a model for more recent ones?  That Fenway Park?
