Might be fair, but the unfair part is 7 for Cavalli, which amounts to missing 1 start.

Both miss 7 games of salary, which I'm pretty sure is more important to them than how many 'starts' they lose.

Loved that Duran finally bunted. I don't care if Tracy called it or Jarren did it on his own, it's a positive way to help a player out of a slump and to contribute to a win.

And for a guy as fast as Duran, bunting is a disruptive weapon that should be part of his game anyway.

Sure, on that level.  But I’m talking about the effect on the teams.  Suspended players cannot be replaced on the roster.  The Red Sox lose an everyday player for 7 games (or whatever it’s reduced to on appeal).   Over 7 games, a starting pitcher will appear no more than twice, and the team can easily figure out a way to make it once via off days or dropping the appeal the day after a start.  Far different effects on the teams.

Look at the other two guys suspended, Eaton and Mikolas.  Eaton is out 3 games.  Mikolas can start on his normal day, serve his suspension the next 3 games, then make his next start on normal rest.  Zero issue for the Nats.

Great game last night.  Nice to see Chapman break Hoyt Wilhelm's strikeout record for a reliever (though after giving up two solid hits I thought he was going to blow the game-nice DP to end it).  I saw/heard no announcement of the record).

Gotta like this win, but we need to put a stop to this "one step up and two steps back" pattern. Maybe it started last night. More likely not.

5.5 GB SEA (45-44) for the last playoff slot. (6.5 behind the CWS might be more reasonable, and TEX is just 6 games ahead of us, but 5 other teams are between us and that last slot.)

We are...

1.5 GB BAL

2.0 GB ATH

2.5 GB MIN

3.0 GB HOU & TOR

It might be nice to pass a couple teams by the ASB, but I'm not sure we can or if that would even matter.

Yeah, they just haven't shown us they can do it.  They have a few weeks left to change that.

Durbin is the finest defensive 3rd baseman the Sox have had since Beltre.

Although his time there was brief, I thought nobody looked more smooth and flat out better at third than Jose Iglesias…

Even if we got 16-7 to end the month (fat chance, right?) I'm still not sure I'd want us to be buyers.

Beltre was more a wrecking ball, but I'd give the nod to him over JI.

I think its time for everyone to face he reality that we will not be playing Oct baseball AGAIN. Probably best to focus on what can be done to prepare the franchise to become competitive in a couple of years, like positioning ourselves for the draft, trading pieces away if the return is worthwhile etc. There have been some positives of course. Durbin is playing much better. We have several very good young SPers. There are a few but not many position players who could contribute in a few years. But face it: this is not our year-AGAIN. It could have been our year. Its not.

To me, the frustrating part of this season is how bad the AL is, and how easy it should have been to make the playoffs or even be a top 3 or 4 team in the AL.

Our run differential points to us being better than our record indicates, but that only goes so far, Pythagorean has us at 43-43, which is pretty pathetic in a league like this, too.

It's hard to write this team off in early July due to the weaknesses of the teams ahead of us, but even if by some miracle we do advance into the playoffs, nobody thinks we can do anything magical once there.

It is frustrating as all hell to watch this team flounder. It worse, because most of us felt the carry-over base from the 2025 team and the decent additions made would get us to at least about the same record. Hell, even you predicted 90 wins, so it's not like any of us felt this team was going to be this bad.

If every team finishes with the same winning % as now, SEA makes the WC with 82 wins. Texas wins the ALW with 83 wins. CLE wins the ALC with 85-86 wins, and the Rays win the ALE with 99 wins. What a major lost opportunity, here!

It's hard to know if Alonso or BLowe & Paredes would have made a big enough difference. If the rest of the team played like they have, I doubt it.
