I don't think rival executives will be fooled by his current OPS.

No, but sometimes teams add pinch runner/defensive players at the deadline.  Toronto added him last year, but it was via waiver claim.

If dealt he won’t get much.  Not really sure why fans are so keen on it.  It’s not like Breslow will think “Now I can finally afford Tarik Skubal!!!”

Mayer 551 OPS vs RHP. 😮‍💨

He’s still platooned, and getting pinched hit for, so the training wheels are still on.

Low level reliever? A ball flier? That's the return for IKF. It's just getting the contract off the books and swapping him with Capra/Seigler/somebody else.

What does getting his contract off the books do?   It’s a one year deal and not preventing any major acquisitions…

No, when the players are here, fans focus on everything they do wrong.  But when they move on, the same folks focus on everything they do right.

Grissom’s OPS is only .686, but somehow he’s a great hitter now?

Its hard for me to blame fan expectations when its been objectively 'rough'

The problem with Grissom was that he had no options remaining and the Sox didn't want to commit to giving him a bench role. They didn't like his defense and didn't know where to play him. He's at the corners for LAA. A RHB with 92 wRC+ at 3b? 👀He's at least outhitting Monasterio. An IF bench of IKF/Grissom would have been fine.

I agree and also crying about Grissom is more of this "we have to be so efficient and suck every WAR out of every $$ to compete" philosophy.  Its all built on faulty assumptions.  Like okay, great, you have a very efficient roster and have plenty of payroll space.....Hooray Soto is a FA, do you really think that his options are going to be limited to the most efficiently built rosters? No, somebody who wants to win more than you is going to outbid you and just not care.

There isnt an overflowing supply of great players that are gettable for market value rates.

What we need to do is get away from the max efficiency models and the everything has to fit around what we already have fallacy. Start over. Get great players.

One less noodle bat lying around.

My only concern with roster makeover is that Breslow should go first.  And I understand a "but maybe the next guy will be worse" ....But Im pretty sure the next guy will be fully capable of matching Breslows last place results

It was a great flick and the last good movie Malcolm McDowell was ever in.

He was in one of the Star Trek movies with Patrick Stewart. I enjoyed that one too, but it certainly wasn’t a classic like A Clockwork Orange.

Breslow should have followed Cora out the door.

They are 5M over the 2nd threshold. It gets them closer to getting under it. 🤑

Juan Soto is not a good defender and that's not the direction this team is going! Need to win with pitching and defense!

We cant take Juan Soto, even if we can get the mets to trade him for IKF and eat 50% his contract because we already have Masa!

Probably his worst.

But Clockwork Orange was far from great IMHO.  And I love dystopian fiction…

The Mets won’t be looking to offload Soto for 8-10 years.  Maybe I’m being optimistic, but I strongly think IKF and Yoshida will no longer be issues by then.

Soto was a Gold Glove finalist playing RF for the Yankees!!

My point is that when you are this far away, fit becomes less important.

Gold Gloves eh? That's what we're working with now?

Technically Gold Glove nominations.  Soto has the same number of Gold Gloves as I do.  And is only slightly more likely to be the one to break that tie…

Let's see, no options. no position (2B?),  can't defend well, not a bench stalwart, don't know where to stick him . I have it...trade him for the for injured fragile Chris Sale who will not pitch in 2025 or '26 . Braves were suckers.

There are some serious idiots in the Sox FO

I don't really care about letting Grissom go to LAA. He is a peripheral player. He couldn't OPS 800 in WOO.

Trading your Opening Day Starter (per Alex Cora) for him, was really dumb though.

Trust me I am not touting Gruesome Grissom who was a failure in Boston.  Someone asked during yesterday's game, how he was doing.    The basic answer is marginal but did hit a Grannie last night

The comment by AC is the real point . The Sox took him for Sale on the assumption Grissom had worthwhile talents of a regular  and Sale was  fragile, if not washed up and look at the money the Sox will save.

No, I would not want Gruesome back for any reason.

Have you read the Clockwork Orange book by Anthony Burgess?

well hes been hitting more recently and it wasnt my idea.  But if he finds his way back to 80 OPS+ , I wont cry if hes deadline flipped
