As you mentioned above, those are currently pretty bad contracts.  If either of those guys were FAs, how much would you offer for them?

If I could get both for a combined commitment of $210million, I’m ok with that.  Adames’ remaining $155mill over 5 does actually seem reasonable for a 30yo SS…

I’d take Adames with Chapman.  Keep Mayer at 2b. Bump Durbin to utility/weakside 2b platoon (ugh).  Demote Monasterio or DFA IKF and bring up Braiden Ward.

It’s time…

Does Ward play SS or 3B?

Who will?

No Durbin, Story or Monasterio doesn't leave much.

Ward plays LF or maybe just ghost runner.

Youre asking who plays SS and 3b in response to a conversation about acquiring Matt Chapman and Willie Adames?

Okay, jumping around from thread to thread sometimes makes it hard to follow previous posts as part of the full plan.

At this point in the season, I'm not sure trying to strike gold as "buyers" is the direction we should take.

Who do we give up to get Chapman and Adames, and if JH continues to spend as he has, those two take up next year's entire new spending budget. Now, if Yoshida or Story are part of the deal and help balance the money, maybe it can work out.

I don’t think there was ever any plan to move Raffy to 1B, or Casas to DH when Raffy was signed . Casas was the 1B, and Raffy was the 3B for better or worse in the eyes of Bloom, and Cora, and still in Cora’s when Bloom left IMO.

I'm not sure anyone ever comes into MLB with the idea that he was going to be a fulltime DH.  There is always an attempt to start prospects at a regular position.  There are a ton of players that come in without a glove and become proficient at their position.

Devers is leading the league in doubles right now and doing well as a first baseman.

Doubles could be a precursor to more HRs, but that's usually in younger players.  Almost every peripheral stat is down.  The 83/17 is probably the most alarming.  He's only 29, so he should revert.  But his stats so far are pretty bad.  It'll be tough for him to get back to his 3.5-4.0 bWAR days.

Devers is going to hit, and Boston misses his bat today.

Maybe April and May we’re just two bad months, but if they’re any indication of his future, that contract will look horrible FAST and Boston will be better off without him.  Especially if he maintains his selfish d-bag attitude every time he gets asked to help his team…
