This published over at Brewer Fanatic. I think it's light for Duran, though the 2026 Red Sox get better with Ashby and Mears on board. Personally, I'd want to see a mid-level position prospect come over from the Brewers in the deal along with those two pitchers. Thoughts?

Must be a typo. My screen says the Brewers would give two relievers for three years of Duran in his prime... but nowhere in the proposal could I find where they include one year of Peralta.

Nick Mears is a mediocre 29 year old reliever who gets pulled to hell with no options. Why would the Sox want him included?

Duran for a reliever and the 10th best prospect in the MIL system? If the Sox need to add a reliever that bad, they can just grab one on the FA market. The deal makes zero sense for BOS and only helps MIL.

It really depends how Ashby is viewed. There's a real chance he should go back to starting, and his contract is stupid-cheap.

If MIL couldn't turn him into a starter, BOS isn't going to turn him into a starter at age 28. I just don't see this deal as likely. All reports were that they were using Duran for a #2 starter or corner IF piece, not bullpen/prospect arms. This deal hurts the Sox in the short term TBH. They are better off holding onto Duran and hoping that a contender has an OFer get injured during the season than making this move.

I think there should be more coming from Milwaukee, to be sure. And Milwaukee didn't convert Ashby due to a return from shoulder issues, and lack of space in the rotation, not because Ashby shouldn't be a starter. I'm still moderately bullish on him being a starter given the stuff and the variety in stuff.

But yeah, I don't care for this deal from the Sox perspective.

IMO, he won't be any better than 3-4 guys we have at that level.  And since Duran can likely land us someone like Lodolo, I would much prefer Lodolo.

Agreed, and maybe getting a third team involved, we can get Ryan for Duran + Harrison.

I agree. Sox only move Duran for a #2, or possibly for corner IF power bat.

If Soup Campbell was still playing, we could trade Wong, Tong, Soup...

Thumbs down? No wonder you're struggling with jogging.

Its an interpretable thumbs down though.  He could have been thumbs downing the joke, he could have also been thumbs downing as in saying no, he isnt going lay off the bong and doesnt think anyone should.

So is it likely the Red Sox will trade Duran?
If the Red Sox can put together a package that includes Duran that will land them an elite starter -- someone who could pitch near the front of the rotation in a postseason series -- I believe it is very likely. However, given Duran’s talent, the Red Sox aren’t just going to trade him to make it easier for Cora to divvy up the playing time in the outfield. It will have to be the right deal for Boston to move on from Duran.

Not sure you can say both things in the conclusion Ian.

Stout goes good with brownies, too -- without the pot.

Though as a retired teacher, I can imagine a lot of folks these days finishing breakfast with a gummy... to take the edge off their coffees.

I used to drink a lot of stouts back in the day, but that's migraine city for me now. This was one of the best beers I ever had: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/34420/

Bongs are so out of fashion.

Probably that nasty bong water had something to do with that.

Yeah, and they are expensive and break too easy.  I had a silicone one that you could throw in the dishwasher and couldnt break for years. It was 25$ and better than all the $200 glass ones I have broken in my life (can think of 3 off the top of my head)

There is one indisputable fact: no poster on this site did more bong hits than I did from 1977-1981.
