I like Kim a lot.  I especially like that he will likely be a 3-year deal, which fits the Arias-Story-SS/2B window well.  Story leaves in two years, Kim slides to 2nd in his 3rd year and Arias into SS.  And finally a farewell to 4-out innings.

I'm always okay with a plus defender at SS, and if we address our RHB need at 1B or 3B, I'm fine with Kim.

Not really sure where to post this but Schwarber is staying in Philly for 5/$150 million.

Edwin Diaz also just signed with dodgers.

Love both moves. Matz also signed with Tampa.

Not surprising with Schwarber.

That's what DD does, he signs guys quick even if he has to overpay for it.  Not saying it's an overpay, but of all the big signings that can happen early probably a DD signing is the least indicative of what a market is going to be.

Schwarber had reportedly multiple offers on the table around 120/4.  So they added the fifth year vs competing on AAV, makes sense to me. Im bummed becasue Im a Schwarber guy but Ive recently made my peace with the fact that Bregman or Alonso are more likely.

What is the market for Bregman and Alonso at this point? it's seems that most of the big market teams are set on the corners and/or have cheap options.  Obviously if the price for a hot commodity falls spenders are going to jump in......but I wonder if the Sox wait it out and go with whoever falls to them

The market is still very active for both. Pitt and Cincy and Baltimore are in the fold, and dont rule out Mets and Tigers. I dont think either of these 2 get to the point where you sign them for an amount that doesnt make you at least a little uncomfortable (whether thats an extra 2 years on the back or an extra few millions in AAV), but who knows.

If Schwarber got 5 years , I have a hard time believing that Alonso and Bregman wont get at least 5.  Alonso is coming off a much better season than he was last year. And prob Bregman too (at least the first half).

If the market is Pitt, Cincy and Baltimore, it isn't much of a market.

Well, those are just the unexpected jumper-ins.  Pitt did rumor to offer 4yrs/120m to Schwarber, so I can see them upping the bidding on Alonso if nothing else.

PITT is the least HR friendly stadium to RHB in MLB. Alonso should look elsewhere IMO.

Yeah I had a feeling he was destined to stay with Phillies and I couldn’t see Dombrowski getting outbid for him.

Diaz is getting 3 years $69 million from Dodgers - that’s a high AAV but Dodgers can afford it and I’m not surprised

I'm surprised the Mets didn't want to keep him around. It's a high AAV, but is' not a crazy contract. Kinda weird at first glance.

Get in where you fit in. Want who wants you. If you cant get the one you love, love the one you got.

If Bregman is noncomittal and Alonso is barking up our tree exclusively, we should pivot priority, ink Alonso and then keep trying with Bregman

1 in the hand over 2 in the bush

[end of cliches, sorry]

Vaughn Grissom just got traded to Angels per Passan. - no word on return yet but can’t imagine it’s much if anything sale,

Was Grissom on the 40 man? He was right?

Surprised Schwarber got 5 x 30m. Fair play to him. I wouldn't want us doing that.

Yeah I believe he was on the 40 man, so this trade was likely just to clear a spot

Better than a DFA. Clears a roster spot for a FA acquisition or Rule 5 pick tomorrow.

Preller seems to be lining up for a day of madness and mental trades. I wonder if we're among all that.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Hopefully a signing soon then (unless they have their eye on a Rule 5 guy to trade like last year).

More than I expected. I would have prefered either Isaiah Jackson that I know of though

The Red Sox sent a Cy Young award winner, and $17M to the Braves for this SUSPECT.🤔
