No msn articles, please.

I don't think Breslow and Bailey look at May and expect success on day 1.

I think from my first impression watching May, the article has credence of the experience of dodger fans.  Sounds like you are afraid of what might be true.

No, I think May sucks and hated the trade when it was made. I don't think Breslow and Bailey think that though.

We are on the same page then.

All I will say is this:

If, after 3 starts, Mr. May has not yet produced a good one, I too will be looking upon him as the proverbial/literal redheaded stepchild.

How long is Buehler's leash?

Has Criswell earned another start (or two?)

What about Harrison?

The fact that there was no real path forward for Tibbs in the OF , same for Ehrhard ,  and neither will graduate to the Dodgers this season takes a little sting out of a desperation trade at the stroke of 6PM, 7/31.

Definitely not a good trade for immediate help nor long term value as I will guess that the Sox don't make  a serious FA offer unless May develops an unhittable pitch overnight.

One surprising thing about this trade is that the Sox FO had just watched their own guys beat May the week before in a similar fashion, a couple of early innings going good then the balls started flying 2nd time around.

Despite having a well worked BP needing some innings eaten by even the 5th starter, the Sox get a true rental who exacerbates an existing problem.    I'm with the guys commenting above, so like Buehler run him out a couple  more times  and try to help May/Buehler succeed.

My mistake on Tibbs name.  However, a path forward for him would be available if Abreu was included in talks for Kelly with the Twins.

No path forward when there’s a gaping hole at 1b… Also, nobody knows what this team will look like in 2 years. Injuries and production could derail any career.

If we traded Abreu, we'd still have Duran in LF, Rafaela in CF and Anthony in RF with Jh Garcia & Campbell above Tibbs on the depth chart and Yoshida & Refsnyder still on the 40 as emergency or occasional (shorter) corner OFs.

We also have Castro, Taylor, Bleis and maybe even Cespedes as OF'ers and then Justin Gonzales poised to move up quickly.

You did not mention that we gave up a pretty good prospect (Tolle) to get this guy.

It's what the Red Sox do. Give, but receive almost nothing in return. Time will tell.

Like when they gave away Christian Vazquez and received nothing in return except Wilyer Abreu…

If talks for Kelly we’re going anywhere at the time, the Sox likely wouldn’t have pivoted to Dustin May…

Dodgers fans can only laugh as Red Sox learn Dustin May lesson in record time

Its only been one redsox performance, but Dodger fans know we may have been taken.

Absolutely true.  In fact, I'm crushed because the addition of May has sent the Sox into a tailspin.

Oh, wait.

The Dodgers have 67 wins with the highest payroll in MLB.  The Sox have 65 wins with the 12th highest.

Just about every deadline trade ranges from overpay to gross overpay. We just choose to downscale the overpays.

It makes more sense to make grand deals in the winter, and that is what Brez has been doing:

Crochet trade

Dugo for 3 pitchers (last winter) then 2 washed up pitchers for O'Neill

Slaten & Sandlin trades.

Largest AAV signing in Sox history (Bregman)

Best RP'er for dollar pair of signings (Chapman + Wilson)

Best catcher trade made by the Sox since VTek with Lowe (Narvaez)

In short, Brez loaded up on pitching depth, last winter, so he would not have to trade for costly SP'ers at the deadline. He still fell short. The Priester trade hurt, as did the Sale trade the winter before, but I applaud the overall effort and strategy to load up on pitching from top to bottom and down to the DSL level. Look at the projected pitching staffs for 2026, even without Chapman, Wilson & Buehler, who will be FAs:

MLB & AAA ML Ready: Crochet, Giolito (maybe) Bello, Sandoval, Crawford, AAA> Dobbins, Harrison, Fitts, Wink, Tolle, Perales, Early, Uberstine, Sandlin (pen?) Wehunt & Drohan- not to mention Houck who will be out all year. This is stunning! No additions made, yet.

AA: Clarke, Rivera, Holobetz, Paez, Rogers, Dean (That's 6) Ingrassia (pen?)

A+: Witherspoon, Valera, Phillips, Evanson, Aita, Taygart (6)

A-: Fajardo, Neely, Travieso, J Bello (pen?) Y Ruiz, Patton, Morgan, Brown (8)

FCL: Cason, Delzine, D Reyes, Zink, Frias, Cordero (6)

This being said, I wish we got better than May, but Brez is doing it "the right way" by making the big deals in the winter not the deadline. Let's see how we do this fall, and then how Brez wheels and deals, this coming winter. We have some surplus value at a few positions: I think Brz knows that and will balance things out in a big way.

Time will tell!!!!!??????

Have you not watched any games this season or even checked the standings?

Oh, and when was the last time the Sox or anyone had a hot shot as their 5th freaking starter?

You are nitpicking when it's clear to the rest of us Breslow has done a heckuva job--even with his mistakes.

Yup, and how about 3 guys for Jansen, Aldo Ramirez for Schwarber,  Scherff for Robles,  Beeks for Nate & Espinal for Pearce...

I still think the Luis Garcia & Lucas Sims trades coulda worked out, and maybe M & M do, this time.

Or when the Sox traded Devers and they've got a cooler that's now available for other Sox players to have access to.

Nobody said that. The responses were to the statement that made no mention of any good trades we made.

They also got some much needed silence in a locker room previously filled with complaints about switching positions…

Clearly. And it worked.  You’ve already forgotten either that Xander and Eovaldi were not traded away or that we were talking about the Sox making bad deadline trades, a topic that doesn’t apply to Sale or Mookie.

But at least you remembered Eovaldi was in another good one…

More like the Sale to Atlanta for Grissom. Or the Betts to Dodgers for Verdugo, Wong and Downs. Nothing to show for Grissom or Downs and a thankfully a short stint for Verdugo in Boston. Connor had a pretty solid year last year but hasn't found that success this year.

So you’re saying trading away James Tibbs and Zack Erhard is like trading away Sale and Betts?  No Andersen for Bagwell?  Or what about Teel and Montgomery for Crochet?

Or is your point that “the Sox ALWAYS make bad trades and to prove it I will name two of them from the past 5 years!!”?

I didn't restrict it to just Breslow. Lighten up Francis!

I've seen a great change in attitude since #11 was shipped west. Amazing when the tension is removed and the atmosphere is cleared up how the energy level is elevated. It's been fun  watching the Sox the last month.

Time will tell how the recent trades will work out. Right now, with little information to work with, there is still question about Matz and May. May's first start...................... iffy at best. Hopefully getting a start away from Fenway will get him back on track.

Time will tell.  Correct.

May has made one start.  Tibbs and Erhard are still in the minors.  It is weird how some decided Tibbs first 3 games in the Dodgers farm system were the norm and his 50+ games with Boston were the outlier.  Oh and that he was the key piece in the Devers trade.

Tibbs and Erhard are likely inconsequential.  May will make maybe 10-12 starts for Boston.  This trade really isn’t the big deal many are desperately trying to turn it into…
