Maybe EO is the most underrated pitcher in baseball.

He sure can be, at times, and when healthy.

Letting him walk ended up being a big mistake, but it wasn't so clear.

We almost got him back.

For those who think Duran is not strong defensively in LF please check out the guy who plays LF for the Yankems.

The defensive competence of other players has nothing to do with how good or bad our players are defensively.

Well, you kinda compare overall, when you say someone is good, bad or average.

Duran would be a GG OF'er in little league.

OK, genius. Has the word genius ever been this abused?

Fred would be on the bench in Little League.

SS wasn’t comparing Duran to Little League players. He unsuccessfully tried to compare him to the Yankees LFer. If you compare Duran to all other LFers in ML ball that’s valid. It’s possible that both Duran AND the Yankee LF suck compared to all other LFers in the game-and I’m not saying his is bad. I’m saying that the comparison of two players in a vacuum is isn’t legitimate if you want to see how they are relative to the average in their position. They could both be great or they could both suck.

I happen to think Duran is plus, when compared to the MLB norm in LF. His metrics are skewed by the short LF wall.

He may even be a plus in CF, but I think he'd need to show more playing time there, this year or beyond, for me to know for sure.

I'm not sure what "comparing in a vacuum" means.

DHam is better than Grissom at 2B in a vacuum or on the field.

What I mean is, is the player in question good at his position or not. If you compare Duran to Yoshida alone (ie in a vacuum) for example, you could conclude Duran is a great outfielder. If the Yankee LFer sucks and you compare Duran to him alone, same conclusion. Does that mean that Duran is an outstanding LFer? Unknown-because you have to compare him to the other players who play that position at the same level.
You certainly can compare two players at the same position and conclude that one is better than the other, but both may be excellent or both may suck. It’s much more useful to compare a player to all other players at that position.
So when SS wrote that “you should check out the Yankee LFer” in reference to how good or bad Duran is there it’s not meaningful because both may be excellent or both may be horrible. If both suck you can look at the Yankee LFer but if Duran sucks (I don’t think he does) then he sucks.

Was this entire game thread just complaining about female announcers? Lol they weren’t that bad and half the time I zone out and ignore announcers anyway. I learned that with ESPN broadcasts and John Smoltz calling games

Posted

Anyway - actual game related things.

- Crotchet has been absolutely outstanding. Worth every penny. It’s nice having an actual axe again.

- Story continues to come up clutch almost every time the team needs it.

- Weissert has had a really underrated season

- shoutout Jordan Hicks for not s***ing the bed and forcing Chapman to come in!

If you can endure Smoltz, you can endure anything.

Old men in general don't like having their precious existence changed, especially by those pesky women. I can still remember the charming night A700, the old Fred, and others, were joking about A-Rod putting 'something' in a female presenter's mouth to shut her up.  Charming lot.

Crotchet is an absolute beast. I cannot believe how good he is. Love his attitude and personality, too.

Story is the better version of what we can get from him. I'm as glad for him as much as us. To be that athletic and good at something and have it robbed from you time and again with injuries must be soul destroying.

Sox have been ridiculous at home this season (38-21). Need to go .500 on the road and keep cooking at home IMO.

Didn't look it up but this has to be an anomaly compared to previous years at Fenway.

It's nice to see home cooking has been this good so far and it needs to be maintained to keep pace.

„Hail to the Commanders” just doesn’t work man.. sorry.

When they were canvasing fans on the new name of the team one brilliant fan suggested leaving "skins" as a part of it. It was the 4 letters in front of it that made it an interesting vision of what the logo would have looked like. "F o r e" were the first 4 letters of the new team name.

Is the RS Nation ready for the day that Crochet doesn't win every game he pitches, either from lack of run support or   bad day on the mound.     Just be emotionally ready to accept it.

He has truly become an ACE and/or stopper but even Garrett will likely lose 1 of 3 or 4 outings.

Somewhere over the next 2 months there will be a 4 or 5 game skid during which they sky will fall .

For now, the playoffs are not only achievable but the Sox with a decent winning  percentage may be in a favorable position.

There were a couple early games he didn't have the run support he's been getting recently. It's baseball, and that part of it will show up now and then.

The one and only year Sale was healthy he had some early games where the Sox' O didn't show up and it was frustrating to watch. Can only hope #35 doesn't turn into the "China Doll" #41 did his last few years in Boston.

All these defensive comparisons started 60 years ago with the standard model, Brooks Robinson.

His nickname was "Hoover."

It's a wonder why we can't keep women posters around?

They said the exact same things that OB would have said. These boomers and boomer adjacents just don't like hearing women speak. Then they started to even complain about the DC football team of course!

Can't wait to be lectured about groupthink though!

Great job by the gals last night. I’ve heard Emma many times, so she wasn’t new to me. It was a Good break away from OB, and the Yuckers.👍👍👍.

That is one of the complaints about OB and NESN is that they talk about nonsense and fill the air with meaningless banter. Last night, they just talked ball.

Were they Vin Scully? No. But nobody is Vin Scully. Not one broadcaster calling games right now comes close to Vin Scully so I don't think that should be the comparison.

Some people didn't like the "tone" of their voices. Joe Castiglione sounded like a friggin' stork being strangled for the past 30 years and I didn't here any complaints about how his voice sounded.

Blackskins? lol Hell no. For me they will always be the Redskins till I die. I was lucky to watch them play 4 SBs and dominate in part of the 80s and 90s along with the 49ers. Unfortunately Dan Snyder bought the team and the rest is history. In the 80s getting a ticket to Redskins games was really like winning the lottery. No kidding. Arguably the best fan base in profesional sports back then along with the Golden State Warriors.

A new era has started though with a young QB who is going to be a legend IMHO.

Other Commanders fans here? I didn't expect that.

8 in a row, man this is some fun.  But we are getting breaks.  Bobby Witt should have made that play, the 2nd baseman should have let the RF take that pop up. But they are also putting the ball in play, pitching well and winning a lot of games on their own.

I was a Sonny Jurgenson fan. When he played for the Eagles, I was an Eagles' fan. When he was traded to Washington for Norm Snead, I became a Washington fan.
