Will Anderson be tipping his pitches again?

Anderson 5/22-6/19: 7.04 ERA, 5.65 FIP, 1.93 WHIP, 1.76 HR/9

Everyone whines about the defense, but last night the Angels scored 9 earned--repeat, earned--runs with just 6 hits.  Our pitching staff gave up 11 walks, 2 HBP's and probably a WP or 2.

Pitching is the problem despite that great run of 6 wins with Giolito, Buehler, Dobbins, Bello, Crochet, and Giolito again having excellent starts plus good bullpen support.   That run ended just 8 days ago.  Now Dobbins is on the IL, Buehler was awful last night, and the bullpen is struggling.

Finally, we have Mayer playing 2B. He needs to be either at short or 2B.

I like him better at 3b or SS, but am fine with 2b.  He's at 2b so Cora can get Eaton's hot bat into the lineup which has 6 righty bats against lefty Anderson.   Gonzalez in for Toro at 1b.  Hamilton not at 2b, so basically Eaton replaces Hamilton, which makes all kinds of sense.

Lefty bats Anthony, Mayer, Duran, Abreu, and Hamilton pretty much stink against lefties.  I'm guessing Anthony and Mayer are in the lineup to continue their development and as a hedge for when lA brings in a righty or two.

Eaton, Ref, Gonzalez and Narvaez have OPS's over .900 vs. lefties. Rafaeala and Story's are .772 and .726.

Mayer looks comfortable at pretty much any infield position, I'm guessing. Hamilton, Campbell and Gonzalez can look shaky out there....I like Gonzalez at 1B the most.

With Crochet pitching and .500 on the bubble at stake, it should be time for our guys to wake up again and focus.

That game last night could not have started out any better, up 3-0.   But Buehler's inability to find the plate and a somewhat tight HP ump , followed by all kinds of non-mental compos play on the base paths and infield/outfield doomed them.

At some point, like last week, it is beyond time to put rookies and vets into a position and lineup slot and let them play to the best of their abilities.   The constant shuffling cannot be good for their mindset.

If Tanner Houck was pitching for another team, he would be perfect pickup for the Red Sox. We'd sign him to a two year deal, maybe not expecting him to pitch this year. Thinking we can rehab him for the start of 2026 season. Only the sox goes around looking for pennies under a rock.

They find pennies and then pay them millions.

Mayer just seems much more ready and into playing this game than some of his peers .  By end of 2025 , he should be established as a key part of the lineup.  Narvaez has made himself a #1 catcher.

Anthony should get there  also by year end. If not, he is a problem needing a solution.   Campbell may be a whole different story.

It's a good thing that Cora is allowing both Anthony and Mayer to bat against a lefty.

Strange Abreu wasn't pinch hitting, but then, Cora is full of surprises.

Too early, and you might want him for D later (since Refsnyder is the DH).

The Sox offense only got two hits of that guy. Both by Mayer. Truly pathetic.

Plus not a lot of loud contact.  Anthony had a solidly hit fly ball and somebody hit a liner to left that took the LF to the track.

Note to Crochet: Getting no run support just makes you stronger.

Garrett is saying, I signed a multi-year deal with these weaklings.

The maturation of this team as professional ballplayers in MLB is between 2-3  seasons away.  I should live so long.   JH should not live long enough to see his dream come true.  That being the Rays in the WS .

Cora's an idiot. Why make excuses for him?

I think if Ref was playing the OF tonight, Abreu would have hit.  Since he’s the DH, it’s a tougher call to replace him this early.

OK. So who was the idiot that didn't put Ref in RF?
