It should be interesting to see Rafael Devers play against the Red Sox next weekend in San Francisco.

This poster will be there on Sunday,

Can’t wait to read the Globe article that kick Raffy in the butt on the way out the door.

PerRed Sox sources: the team's feeling was that a $313.5M contract comes with responsibilities to do what is right for the team and that Devers did not live up to those responsibilities. They had enough and they traded him.”

Hard to disagree with this

I’d be interested to know ownerships hand in all this.  You have to believe Breslow had their blessing or it was agreed upon the organization needed to move on from him.

shocking, and gutsy

I think it was Bres's preference not to have full time DH.

Agreed, but with Duran being the worst defensive OF'er, except for maybe Refsnyder, he will likely DH more than any of them.

Once Bregman returns, we'll have an extra infielder to cycle through the DH slot to add.

In a sense, we will be replacing Devers bat with a mix of more PAs from Mayer, Anthony and KC while lessening the impact on PAs by Abreu, Duran, Rafaela and Story.

If we DH Refsnyder vs LHPs, who plays RF? Anthony?

vs R

LF: Anthony & Duran (one DHs)

CF: Rafaela (Duran some games)

RF: Abreu

vs L

LF: Duran

CF: Rafaela

RF: Anthony

DH: Refsnyder

Duran is a very good OF. Turning him into a DH is a mistake

He used to suck on D, looked pretty good in 2023, much better in 2024, including in CF, then kinda meh, so far this year.

Anthony is better. Rafaela is way better. Abreu is way better and can play RF.

Duran> Refsnyder on D.

It's not that Duran sucks on D, he's just 4th best on the Sox.

Also, we may end up playing Campbell in the OF, in the long run, especially with a healthy Bregman back and KC & mayer hitting well enough to stave off a demotion. (A Story trade might be next.)

Maybe his value would be higher on another team playing the OF more than DH.

Those eye rolls were telling.

Cora not even daring to ask Devers to play 1B was too, if we believe what many say happened and did not happen.

I really liked Devers. He looked like a kid who really loved playing the game. He produced like no other Sox player since the Betts and JD days. That may not be saying much, since we've had a pretty weak team with a revolving door of guys names Renfroe, Duvall, O'Neill & Turner.

This is truly amazing, shocking and a bit scary.

As long as Henry replaces him with someone comparable but with a better attitude it’s good.
I admit I absolutely won’t miss his “me first” attitude.

I suspect Duran is on the trade block too.

Wtf, didn’t mean to post that twice.

i think it’s obvious they’re going to rotate the DH position.

this is just shocking.  I’m interested to see what the clubhouse reaction will be, how will they respond?

I think they did what they had to do.

What they thought they had to do. Now there’s a huge hole in the order and will be for years.

It seems like anybody could be on the block, now, except a kid.

Story's contract.

Yoshida's contract.

Duran and the OF logjam, even with a DH slot open. Duran has more value to PHI as an OF'er than to BOS as a DH. (Abreu instead of Duran? Sell high on Rafaela?)

People talk about how a new manager can shake up a clubhouse. This has to do some serious shaking- for good or bad.

Everybody will be doing a self-check after this doozy.

Yoshida could actually fit on the team now.

Really doubt it now.

There’s still too many OFs they do what Moon suggests and make Duran a DH. He’s got more value as an OF. My guess is that Breslow isn’t nearly done.

No doubt, that hole cannot be fixed from within the system, this year, no matter how much we may love the 3 kids.

We already have a Toro-Romy thing going that is miraculously replacing our preseason Casas expectations pretty well. Now, we have an impossible ask, and to think this was done before Bregman's return makes it even more shocking.

We’ll see. I think Devers was traded for non-baseball reasons. They’ll keep Duran around until the deadline at least.

The reason the relationship soured was all on Breslow anyway.

Fire Breslow.

Ummm….NO. Breslows job is to be the GM. He doesn’t need the permission of the players to make roster moves. The players job is to do what they’re told to do. If that means playing 1B then that’s what they have to do. They don’t have to like it.

He’s was traded because of his crap “me first” attitude. We don’t need to rebuild a team with players like that.

Nobody wants Story’s contract.

Nor Yoshida's, but pitching in some serious cash or taking back a bloated contract might be an option.

Duran's poor D, this year makes me think the initial idea is a Duran-Refsnyder DH with Duran playing LF vs some LHPs.

Anthony gets his FT role (LF vs R and RF v L)

Rafaela stays put as the FT CF'er.

When Breg returns, the DH turns into a wider mix, or we make another trade.

This trade reminds me of the Nomar trade in '04.

Good pull. It does. Let's hope we see the same immediate results.

Clearly this move was made to clear a path for Yoshida…
