I think they've said his defense has regressed a little and he's no longer CF. I would just get him ready to be a 1B/COF guy. Somebody that you end up platooning or take over as a starter as needed.

We have LF covered 5 deep, so yes, 1B or bust.

I'm in agreement. Plus, Story's defense does not appear to be what it used to be, either.

Cora would have held that position on Story even if Bregman hadn’t been signed, and Raffy was the 3B IMO. It’s amazing how many things Raffy’s getting blamed for.

Cora once again said he doesn’t want Raffy in the field, and he made that clear again today, which has a better chance of keeping him healthy, so it’s not as cut, and dry as you all make it out to be.

I believe we both realize that Devers isn't a team player. He's made that perfectly clear.

Maybe he's still pissed that the FO didn't re-sign his best friend.

The one thing that might, I repeat, might, work in Story sticking with the club is that he is a veteran presence in what is a very young clubhouse, particularly the young infielders.  Especially with Bregman out.

Devers is a vet, but he has shown no interest in filling anything resembling a mentoring role (as Bogaerts did for him 8-9 years ago) and if anything, is a negative influence.  Duran and Refsnyder have been around long enough to help with the OFs. 

That doesn't mean Trevor should be playing every day. However, Refsnyder doesn't play a lot but certainly called out the team's play a little the other day.  It doesn't have to be a regular but here  is some value in having vets around.

If Story heats up great, but even if he doesn’t I don’t think he’s in any danger of losing his job, or going anywhere despite all the praise and support he gets on here. Cora is pretty loyal to his players, and what gets wished for, suggested, or predicted on here doesn’t usually correlate with what Cora does.

Cora is loyal but if Story can't hit any more the decision of playing him or not could easily be taken out of Alex's hands.

The big question is whether the good series Story just had means anything.  Did he make a little tweak in his mechanics that paid off?

I'll wait for mvp's Captain Nemo report on the pitches Story hit.

Bregman being out gives Story a longer leash IMO, and especially he’s not the only one with slumber in his lumber at the moment either.
