It was an enjoyable game, even before the Abreu laser shot. It was good to see Crochet manage to not let up a bunch of runs, without having his best stuff, today.

We K'd a lot, but we also hit for some hard outs.

The infield defense is night and day better than 2024. Stunning reversal of a big weakness.

I can't contain my enthusiasm for this team, even with Bello, Crawford, Gio, Sandoval and Hendriks on the IL and Mayer & Anthony not even on the 40, yet.

Wong (2), Bregman (2), Abreau (3), Devers and Campbell all with exit velos over 100. Just need to get the ball up, 5 of those had launch angles below 5. Kristian Campbell with the highest bat speed for the Red Sox, just needs to settle down at the plate a little.

Campbell was 1-3 with a BB. He looked fine to me.

The problem with this game was the top 5 batters went 0-15 to start the game. Can't have that.

Devers did nothing to dispel concerns about where he is.  He's still #1 on my list of concerns.

His stance is more extreme than last season. He's adjusting to being a fulltime DH. Ever since his shoulder injury, his batting has been ROUGH.

As with Crawford, rest and rehab hasn't fixed the underlying issue most likely. Devers didn't even pick up a bat all offseason.

Regarding Abreu, is it possible losing all that weight from being ill made his bat speed quicker than ever... I'm not campaigning for Secretary of Health, but there's literally no more front porch to clear before making contact.

Also, was Rafaela in an 0-and-2 count again every time he stepped up to the plate, or was it just me? Wait... it wasn't me -- I sat in a recliner the whole game.

At this point in the season, I literally have zero concerns other than injury for anyone.

Abreu just loves hitting in TX. He also had to hit two homeruns, one for each of his newborn twins. Duh...

at TEX 313 tOPS+ (3 HR, 7RBI)

at HOU 200 tOPS+ (1 HR, 6 RBI, 4 XBH)

Certainly seemed like it, but need a larger sample for me.

But its cool and I def sent out some texts last night of this sort:

AC: So you lost 20 lbs this month and barely had any spring due to this illness youve had.  We're gonna start you on the IL so you can build up your strength, energy and timing

WA: Well, I cant really explain why and I know I lost 20 lbs in a very short span (without trying to or thinking I needed to), and I know I havent gotten a ton of reps, but like I said - cant explain it but I feel f'ing great right now.

AC: What? Really?

WA: Yeah, think Im good to go

(Proceeds to almost single-handedly win us opening day)

Super cool!

Wheres the Abreu statue going?

Also - good to see Slaten pick up where he left off.  Looked to have great command and shut em down in the ninth. No heart in our throat anxiety. WHich is great cuz DWill, who the yanks paid through the nose for was shaky in his first outing (but did get the "S")

Somewhere in Texas or Venezuela.

Does Abreu have a tattoo? If yes, I hope he doesn't get deported.

My father had a salmon on his forearm. He would've been glad to get sent to Canada -- that's where he ran into his idol, Ted Williams, when they were both fishing on the Miramichi River.

They talked flies, but none that could reach the red seat.

My hunch is that this game will be decided by a bullpen battle.  But hunches can be made to look very silly by baseball.

The hunch won out in the end.
