Some were saying that all along…

Some of us where yes, I believe you were among the sane with me.  Others are going to have strong opinions for a lifetime all based on a headline.

The media didn't "serve up" anything, it was directly out of devers' mouth.

Actually it was translated.  So it was LITERALLY NOT out of his mouth

Ah, so you are saying he didn't say what he said?!

No, I'm saying some people are a sucker for a headline and have zero ability to comprehend what really happen.

The team never spoke to Devers about moving off position, up until now they've told him he's the 3rd baseman or at least up until that press conference.

If you were being interviewed by the media and were asked about being fired when no one told you that you were fired you might be a little confused and angry as well.  There's a difference between Devers saying "I'm the 3rd baseman" when the team NEVER told him otherwise vs. "I'm the 3rd baseman" when the team told him he was moving.

Let me repeat that.  There's a difference between saying "I'm playing third base" when the team tells you you're moving vs. if they' have NOT told you.  We know they didn't tell him, we know he acted exactly like someone would have if they have not of had that conversation.  For all you and everyone else knows, the moment they sit down with him and tell him he's going to move his next comments in a press conference very well may be "I'm going to do what's best for the team"  people are mad at him for not saying that based on him not knowing it and tha'ts just stupidly absurd.

The media served it up with the spin that he's reluctant to move off of position when in fact we didn't know what conversations were and were not had.  You got played....and you swallowed it whole.  I'm impressed actually.

If the Sox decide to play Bregman at 3rd, and they tell Devers he's moving and he acts this way that is 100% a different story.  That is wrong, he deserves strife, and that's a troubling issue.  BUT THAT  IS NOT the case, and the media has spun the issue to make it look so.  Some swallowed it, some did not.

I didn't get "played", I listened to the interview. He was adamant about not moving position, pretty simple.

All I see is you trying to make excuses and tell us what we saw didn't happen.

So let's base it on what you think may or may not happen and not on what was actually said,

Got it, thanks for playing.

OMG dude🤦‍♂️.  There's a difference between not wanting to move off a position and refusing to move off a position.

No one should have issue with the former.

I didn't claim that he refused. Simply because he can't refuse until he is told to move position, which hasn't happened yet.

Exactly! so how should he react to be asked questions that were formed in such a way that something has happened that as far as he was concerned didn't happen yet?

People who actually speak spanish and watched the interview say that the tone from Devers was one that was only upset because he seemed annoyed with the line of questioning.

It's LITERALLY.....a nothing burger.

Or I suppose we should call it a "It's nothing yet, maybe it will be something but some people think it's something because the media loves what the media loves" burger....with Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and cheese.

Yeah, like I said, bunch of excuses. People can interpret it any way they want. I saw a guy who wasn't happy about the prospect of being moved off his position.

It's understandable that he's not happy about the prospect of not playing third base any more.  But his latest comments indicate he has no desire to cause any problems for the team, which is the main thing.

Whether anyone thinks this is a nothing or something burger, we can all agree Red Sox Nation needs Devers to be much more than a quarter-pounder with cheese... at least a whopper.

OPS (On Plate Saturation):

Quarter-pounder with cheese: 417 calories

Whopper with cheese: 790 calories

Wendy's Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple Heart Attack: 1,520 calories

Especially if he moves to DH I don't want that boy to lose one single pound.  Not all athletes are built the same.

When you break it down and think about it, if people understand this what are they essentially angry at? They're effectively angry that Raffy doesn't share their "feelings" and doesn't immediately jump for joy at the prospect of moving position before he's even asked.

The type of mentality I want in my PROFESSIONAL Athletes are guys who don't want to move off of the position they play ever.  Now, I expect them to do so once asked if it's in the best interest of the team.  But I want them to want their position....even if they suck at it.  That's the bulldog thought process I want in my pro atheltes.

Maybe, he said he has no beef with the sox. But he also hasn't been told that he's no longer the 3B anymore yet either.

The problem was that people were saying "well I don't think it will be an issue" and some posters were all over them saying "where are your sources on that?" or whatever. We all have our own opinions on this stuff. None of us know for sure. Even relying on sports radio guys for the "inside baseball" stuff will lead you astray most of the time. Until Devers actually flipped out more than just saying "I want to play 3b," there was little reason to turn the molehill into a mountain and rundown other posters for not being concerned about it.

It's ok to have differing opinions. I think we all just need to remember to not be jagoffs about it towards each other.

But they are allowed to be human and be disappointed or unhappy at the prospect of it.

Lost in all this is Bregman might not only be the best defensive 3rd baseman oil camp, he might also be the best defensive second baseman.  At least they have potential improvement there, although it might mean finding a new position for Campbell for a bit when they decide to use him…

... or shortstop. No one should be surprised if he plays at least a few innings there, as well.

Cora trusts him complicitly.

Well said. I know most likely to hone in on every word, and how it’s said, and then try to decipher the meaning, but I’m just waiting to see how it all plays out. Raffy said a few things yesterday saying he’s not mad at the Red Sox, but he also said he hasn’t changed his mind about anything. How it works out I’ll be fine with it. I know Bregman is a better 3B, but it doesn’t bother me as much as others on here if Raffy stays at 3B either.
