I'm picturing Sam Kennedy working on new explanations for failure, reassurances about the future, and admonishments to us entitled, whiny fans.

This team is done. No energy at all during this losing streak. Need to get on the road. They can't win at Fenway.

Pretty terrible.

The SOX have a very good chance of finishing 78-84. If that happens, would they be the 1st team in MLB history to have the same W/L record 3 years in a row?

Stay tuned.

I don't know, but it's almost something to root for at this point.

O'Neill has 23 homers and only 47 RBI. There is a lot more value of hitting with runners in scoring position than hitting solo homers.

That's a pretty crazy stat. I wonder what is the record for least RBIs by someone with 20+ HRs

There's a lovely symmetry to it all, especially tonight's game with lousy hitting, lousy defense, and lousy pitching to make it 5 straight losses.  If that isn't enough, the talksox name is gone, along with the talksox format.

But, heck, like a bunch of others I had to leave boston.com--and talksox has proven to be a better site.

Here is what I found since 1901:

Some notables:

HR-RBI

47-94 Mark Trumbo

45-90 Barry Bonds

44-79 Frank Howard (worse than O'Neill x 2)

39-89 Norm Cash

38-67 Adam Duvall

38-76 Joe Adcock & 38-77 Santender

34-72 Matt Williams

33-67 HRam

30-59 Cedric Mullins

28-57 Jose Altuve

25-59 Barry Bonds & 25-58 Eddie Mathews

24-57 Michael Saunders

These are only players who qualified by PAs)

If it wasn’t for Jarren Duran, I’m not sure I’d even want to watch this team some nights.

also, Luis Garcia is horrible. He has been one of the Sox worst trade deadline acquisitions in recent memory. Dude makes 07 Eric Gagne look like a great pitcher.

Should we move this to the Game Thread Forum? Was it better having the thread in the regular forum? We could just move the thread the following day or when the new thread is posted?

You are correct. Garcia is horrible. And to think that the Sox gave up Matthew Lugo and 3 other prospects for him. Horrible trade by Breslow.

Let's wait and see how Lugo turns out. We've had dozens of prospects like him that amount to nothing.

Certainly, our end of the deal has been horrible, and ultimately, a GM is always judged by hindsight, so Brez did choose the wrong guy to acquire.

According to a NESN graphic last night, the '24 Red Sox are currently two wins BEHIND the '23 Red Sox at this point.

But have a little faith, peoples -- with five games left this month, Boston could go 3-2 and still finish August with a losing record, extending their DOG DAYS losing streak to 879 Augusts in a row.
