Sorry, but Cooper is Bobby D wearing a different number. Takes a cookie middle-middle, then chases low/inside. Talks to himself, like Casas does.

Cooper is definitively better than Bobby Dalbec

I don't know what happens with the rest of the season... but thus far it has been borderline miraculous- the number of wins they are putting together. I was as upset as anyone with the off-season... but will admit it has been a fun team to watch so far.

2 hit shutout by Criswell through 5 innings. Somebody is living right. Amazingly good performance

He has struck out every single time at bat for the Sox. Even Dalbec hasn't been that bad, maybe only 50%

Further, Cooper immediately gets injured in his first game , and sure enough Cora subs Dalbec. You cannot make this stuff up. Grissom sick and Cooper injured.

Coop hurt? Now he is a true Red Sox.

We are seeing the value of Chris Sale... you didn't realize how many team injuries he was absorbing.

Are we sure Cooper and Dalbec are 2 different players ?

While I don't think they are the same player.... I will concede I have no idea what Dalbec is... to see someone become that totally lost at the plate is really weird to watch.

Dalbec is the one who has struck out 55 times in his last 108 plate appearances. That’s over 50% of the time since 2022, folks…

sox lead MLB in shutouts with 6 ? Great work Andrew Bailey and the pitchers too.

I do think Valdez, who we complain about, may have saved Slaten some trouble with that snag in the 9th.

Slaten looked like he got away with a few pitches, no? It should be 4-3 and we're watching Kenley close it out.

I see this game a little differently.

The Giants just finished a 10 game homestand, which means they are playing their first game on the east coast against the Sox. Going west to east is always tougher than going east to west.

The Giants defense may be better--17 errors vs 24 errors--than the Sox, but their team ERA, 4.43, is ranked 25th in MLB to the Sox 1st. And they've scored 116 runs, ranked 21st in MLB, to the Sox 139, ranked 12th.

On the other hand, I completely agree with anyone who says a starting pitcher can make a huge difference, and Webb has thrown 8, 7, 7, and 7 innings in his last 4 starts, giving up a total of 3 runs. He is not a K guy, but is apparently terrific at getting outs. His ERA of 2.33 is his best ever, and tonight he is going on 7 days rest.

Looks like the trip east combined with the Giants weak hitting and pitching were enough to allow the Sox to roll over them in game 1. Good as Webb has been, he too seems to have been affected by 3 time zones.

Not in either plate appearance?

Thanks for reminding me. He struck out both times. And he almost got an error before he finally grabbed that grounder.

LOL.

I wonder what his FIP was for this stinker.

Hey, I wasn't one of the many on talksox who said Cooper would be the answer at 1b. This is his 4th team in 1.2 seasons. Miami, San Diego, and Chicago were the other three.

Got caught up late, tonight.

Loved this game. Group effort.

We've now been through the 5 man rotation 6 times.

30 GS or opened and really just 2 bad starts. That is astounding.

Agree completely--especially with the word "astounding."

For some reason, I thought you said Criswell, jokingly. My bad.

My eyes are failing me.

I doubt we end up being impressed by Cooper as the season goes on, but he should be better than Dalbec.

yes, astounding. the only conclusion that i can come to is that Andrew Bailey is some sort of pitching magician.

Yes it is astounding to see the team ERA continue to drop, and be as low as it is after another shutout, and after 30 games into the season. It would have been astounding if the rotation had stayed healthy, but with all the injuries makes it more so. On the other hand the Bruins crapped their pants last night.

Yes. Two strikeouts.

Also only one game…

His trade to Boston was odd, since he was playing well when DFAd. But the other 3 team scenario isn’t uncommon. Miami traded him to San Diego because he was a pending free agent. San Diego lost him to Chicago through free agency.

Jordan Montgomery played on 3 teams in that same time frame. Did that mean he has a few flaws in his game, too?
