Actually, the only seriously negative comments I find here are yours. And they're directed at other posters.

Wins can be fun too. The bad vibes in these threads have soured many posters from checking in while watching. The only way to rectify that is to just keep posting without being a blackhole.

I asked for a dominant outing from Bello and he gave one. No complaints from me. Defense wasn’t great. Baserunning wasn’t great. Typical nonsense that we’ll have to understand comes with the territory this season.

Especially if you can play the A's, Pirates and Angels.

Pirates are above .500. They aren’t awful.

Reread the very first page, which is filled with gloom and doom and predictions of errors, etc.

2d page has just 2. 3d page gets into the baserunning and third base coach issue, which continues onto page 4.

Nowhere does anyone say the Sox are now 10-9, that the beat a team with a winning record, and that the Sox pitching still has the lowest ERA in MLB.

mvp 78 did, however, tell us the Sox are 2d in MLB in dingers--a huge surprise for me.

Rafaela had his 4th error though?

Send ‘Em In Wendell Kim and Dale Sveum.

Apropos of nothing, Wendell " Send 'em in " Kim's father was a boxer, Phil " Wildcat" Kim . A welterweight contender back in the 50's. A tough Hawaiian, he fought some of the best of his time, including world champions Beau Jack, Virgil Akins and Carlos Ortiz. He lived up to his nickname and walked on the wild side. He met a sudden and violent demise.

He sure did.

I personally have bought into a lot of the negativity about this team and whined as much as anyone, especially about the defense, but also about the hitting and even the baserunning and the bullpen. I believe the head shed has made some dumb moves and that the Sox will finish no better than 82-82.

But right now the Sox are 11-10, mostly because the team ERA is still the lowest in MLB even though 2 of the original rotation--Whitlock and Pivetta--are on the 15 day IL.

Plus you just pointed out the Sox are 2d in MLB in dingers, which is just as remarkable as the Sox having the best ERA.

As Miracle Max would say, this team is only mostly dead. It's too early to look for loose change.

Tonight I thought they looked awfully good even with the error, the baserunning, etc.

The Sox took just 1 of 4 against 14-6 Cleveland, but 2 of the 3 losses were highly contested.

Rafaela's error tonight did not cost an unearned run, and he drove in 2 runs, 1 with a dinger.

We are also 4th in the AL in SBs (just 1 from 3rd.)

Those 3 teams have a combined record of 28-29. Not stellar but not pushovers either…

We all want to cheer for the Red Sox -- that's why we boo when we can't. Most talksox posts are wishing and hoping and discussing ways Boston can be better, from the top down. Everyone has an opinion, but no one ever tries to plan ways for the Sox to get worse.

Posts should be up and down -- and dumb jokes come with the territory for fanatics who spend time every day dealing with their addiction by typing to anonymouses they'll never meet ; if this was all just "Yeah, us! Gimme five!" the forum would be boring and cease to exist.

I say this as a kid who grew up only going to Fenway and has since been to 7 different ballparks. PNC Park is legit. It’s basically a carbon copy of Camden Yards and Petco, and I would consider all 3 the best parks I’ve been to

Just because the Pirates are above 500 doesn’t mean they are a good team. The Red Sox are above 500, and they aren’t a good team. The Red Sox didn’t just face a meatball pitcher last night, but a fake meatball pitcher. There are many bad teams this year, so you are going to have bad teams like Pittsburg, and Boston with winning record, and yes the standings count the most.🙈🤭

I agree that up and down should exist. For some, it’s 99% down which is draining.

Pirates and Sox have a similar outlook for this year IMO. If the Sox can beat like teams, I’m fine with it.

Depending on the day of the week? Like the Red Sox are better today than they were yesterday?

Just making sure no one enjoys the Red Sox?

Out of cutiousuty, if you watched yesterday’s game, it was very likely the first time you’ve seen the Pirates play all year. So why do you say they’re a bad team?

Yes. What else is there to go on?

Living in Pittsburgh now, I follow the Pirates closely. They have a lot of potential. They are in a weeklong hitting funk right now but I think they can finish above .500 if not contend for a Wild Card. Cruz and Hayes have not hit at all yet. Suwinski and Reynolds are phenomenal young players and role models

And if the Sox go on a winning streak or losing streak we’ll keep reevaluating.

Yes, and I'm as guilty as anyone.

It's not like the Theo days when you could pencil the team in for 95 wins. Now everything seems very unpredictable, with all the roster turnover, the impact of the guys behind the scenes like Bailey and so on.

I’ve watched the SeaDogs,Colby College, and the U of Maine the last 10 days. All with better IF play than the Red Sox. I listened to all the negativity on here all offseason when I was the patient one, and said let’s see how things are on March 28, so blame me for any negativity on here when that’s all I heard all offseason. Sham! Sham! Sham!

The Pirates won 14 more games in 2023 than they did in 2022. I doubt they improve by that much in 2024, but they’re certainly heading in the right direction…

I was a lone voice of positivity. I have been getting negative because the secondary infield is subpar, to be kind. But it’s also not permanent.

So tell me which parts of the Colby College and Sea Dogs games lead you to conclude the Pirates were a bad team? You’re right there was a lot of negativity, but none of it was directed to the Pirates aka the team you said was bad and I asked about…

Over analyzing as usual. Where did I say the Pirates are a bad team. They used a Fake Meatball pitcher last night. What I said was just because a team is over 500 doesn’t mean they are a good team. That’s for any sport, or like the Red Sox now.

You said so you are going to have bad teams like Pittsburg, and Boston with winning record”

Asking why Pittsburgh is a bad team. You’ve possibly seen the Red Sox play, so whether or not I agree with that conclusion, I know where it’s from. Where is the Pittsburgh conclusion coming from?

Also, calling a 23yo with FIFTY CAREER IP a fake meatball pitcher might be a tad premature…

I stand corrected, but the jist of the comments is still the same. Records are what they are, but just, because any team in any sport has a winning record doesn’t always mean they are a good team. The Red Sox are not a good team.

Just like the meatballs pitcher from the Angels the Red Sox have beat up on twice, and hit a bunch of homers. Not impressed at all.

The Red Sox are trying to play without three starting infielders and one backup infielder. (And three starting pitchers.) I’m not wild about who they still have starting, but hoping there is an end in sight. Of course, they need Devers to get healthy as well.

All things considered, being above .500 right now is a good sign for Boston. Their biggest weakness has proven to be depth, and they’re still holding on while that gets tested…
