Breaking news: Theo Epstein is now a Red Sox minority owner and advisor

Recommended Posts

According to JH it was LL who ran the Red Sox. At least with Theo on board the Red Sox have a real baseball guy unlike Sam, but that doesn’t mean that JH will take any advice from him.

Then why give him a minority stake in FSG? That's a lot of money to bring in someone you won't listen to.

If Henry continues to piss away money on people he doesn't want to listen to, he's dumber than I gave him credit for.

All I'm sayin'. Epstein's brilliant in general, but he's a baseball mind with connections to both Breslow (who he worked with on an FO capacity) and Bailey (who he signed as a player).

I know we on this board are all Red Sox focused but it appears that FSG's portfolio has become so diverse that they need additional executives overseeing their other ventures as well. Liverpool faces a particularly challenging future, for example. The Athletic had an interesting piece.

Technically, Epstein never signed Bailey. The Sox acquired Bailey in December, 2011 in a trade with Oakland for Josh Reddick by then-GM Ben Cherington. Epstein signed on with the Cubs two months prior.

I’m not sure Epstein has any simple connection to Bailey…

Yeah, I believe that to be the case.

Lucky it wasn't notin technicolor, because then you'd learn the green villain in the Wizard of Oz was only called the Wicked Witch of the West because that's where they grow avocados.

Hey, we resemble that remark because we do grow avocados on our 5 acres in Temecula, CA . And if you call my wife the WWotW , we will have issues, lol.

If THeo was given full authority he's not going out and making a ton of moves. He probably views the Sox as an organization that needs 2-3 years to fix.

He's not going to sign Montgomery or SNell and trade for a guy. And if he was are they demoting Breslow before they really even let him have the job? is he a fake POBO?

I don't know what the plan is, but I know what I would LIKE the plan to be. This is still Breslows team to run, but Theo is the guy he reports to now and not Henry. If he needs more money, or wants to over the cap for someone some year, or wants to hand out a franchise altering contract, it's going through Epstein. Epstein is given full power a owner would have with the forsight to know when it makes baseball sense and not just dollars and cents.

Breslow is/was not President of Baseball Operations. Dombrowski is the only POBO the Red Sox have ever had. Breslow and Bloom both have/had the title of Chief Baseball Officer, which a subtle but I think significant difference. I don't think either has/had the authority the Dombrowski had. That is certainly the case when it comes to the budget. Kennedy, a non-baseball guy, has been running the whole shebang for the past few years, and the results show it.

I dunno, I don’t really buy the difference between CBO and POBO, I think it’s more semantics really.

I would agree though, I think Dombrowski had more autonomy than these guys but I also don’t think it’s an apples to apples comparison.

Dave had a much larger resume and track record than these guys. I think that commands a certain level of autonomy no matter what your title is. He also walked into a team that largely had the core together for their next run, he did make a lot of key additions. Would Breslow be given that level of autonomy if they felt they were closer to a championship? I dunno, I think we could find out next year if they look a lot closer at the end of 2024.

I didn't even know what they were when I was a kid -- and my father was a farmer (East Coast) -- but now we eat and see them all the time... thus, that particular shade of green is the wickedest.

Plus, I read on the internet that avocados are the healthiest veggie -- so it must be true! Good source of fat, at least... though the missus, who's allergic to everything, has to make sure they're not from Mexico...

I never ate an avocado until my late 20's.

Same with Indian or Vietnamese food.

I had an avocado tree in my backyard as a tree. Toss half a ripe avocado with lime and olive oil between two slices on bread and it'll change your life. You're welcome.

There is no difference between POBO and CBO. Bloom and Crag just don't have the rizz to trick Henry into spending.

You would miss me if I ever jumped over to Sawxheads or SOSH…

Well... bye,

Gee notin, Romy Gonzales, a White Sox reject. Wow, that should whet our appetites for the season to start. I have a word for Breslow.....YOU NEED TO RESIGN AND TAKE UP SOME OTHER LINE OF WORK. You have become nothing more than an errand boy for the front office, no power, no ability to sign anyone of significance, and nothing much to show for your flailing around since you became head of BO.

I don't think Sawxheads exists anymore. You have to go to a different site now.

In FL, we have these monstrous avocados that look amazing, but when you go to eat them just taste like unflavored instant mashed potatoes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choquette_(avocado)

I'm partial to other varieties.

Apparently John Henry and his pack of flunkies running the show think they can get away with turning our team into another s*** show this coming season......and you know what??? They can get away with it if the pink hats and boot lickers pack the park in a show of loyalty to an organization that is selling them down the river. The only answer we have to this flagrant destruction of our team is to stay away, don't go to Fenway, don't tune in to NESN or follow their games on TV, refuse to buy any Red Sox gear whether jerseys, tee shirts, hats, etc. JUST BOYCOTT!!!!. I know it will hurt to do that but what choice to we have? We have finished last three of the last four seasons, looks like it will be four of five in 2024, and that would make it seven times in 13 seasons going back to 2012. Our team doesn't give a rip about winning, only making money for future investments in other sports while their main business is on hold thinking they can keep expanding elsewhere and we'll just go along with what they're doing. We need to make it hurt bad for them to wake up and understand that we have a right to see our team compete for a playoff sport EVERY @#$%&?! YEAR. Sorry for the rant but I think some of you out there agree with me.

I'll be honest and say there is something endearing about SBF's posts when taken in small batches. Too bad he had to be a real one and post some insane s*** at thunder.
