Campbell is Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year...

Keith Law named him MiLB player of the year too.

AFL roster was released:

(From MLB.com)

Red Sox (Mesa): Brooks Brannon, C (No. 27); Cooper Adams, RHP; Max Ferguson, INF; Zach Fogell, LHP; Danny Kirwin, RHP; Caden Rose, OF; Conor Steinbaugh, RHP; Tyler Uberstine, RHP
Brannon possesses plus raw power and arm strength and led national high school players with 20 homers (tying his father Paul's North Carolina state record) and 91 RBI in 2022, but has played just 79 games the last two seasons while dealing with back and knee issues. The most interesting of the Red Sox arms is Uberstine, who topped out at 75 mph with his fastball in high school but now works in the low 90s with his two- and four-seamers and in the low 80s with his sweeper. He had Tommy John surgery in June 2023 and returned to the mound this August.

Very uninteresting AFL roster for the Sox IMO. The only SoxProspect ranked guy is Brannon at 51.

Baseball America names Campbell Red Sox Minor League Player of the Year
After an incredible season, Baseball America has named Kristian Campbell

Campbell was named MiLB player of the year 9/24. You're referencing a story written on 9/23 where he was just the org player of the year.

Thanks for the clarification.

Kinda nice having both winners on our farm, and both being ML or near ML ready.

Not long ago, Mayer was #1 on our farm, and he's still looking about the same. It's just the others passed him.

Teel, Arias and others are knocking on the top 3 door, too.

I'm not sure Teel is knocking on that door, I just don't think he has the same ceiling as the top 3.

It's funny that they called it the big 3, and now a big 4.  I think Mayer/Anthony were always a tier above Teel, Mayer/Campbell/Anthony might be the real big 3.

I like Teel a lot.

Arias is good, but he's a ways away.  I could just as easily see Bleis, or Perales recovering and gunning for the top spot by the end of next year; along with Montgomery who we have not even seen play a game yet.

Sometimes the next great prospect comes from left field (figuratively).  If anyone knew Campbell would be Campbell he probably be drafted in the back of the top 10 last year.

For all we know Will Turner is the next great prospect in a year from now.

The bar for a franchise C in today's MLB is lower than you think. Wong wasn't all that great of a prospect while in AAA and he's now the starting C. Teel has a higher ceiling than that.

Mayer's issue mainly relates to health, otherwise he's projected to be a Brandon Crawford type.

Anthony has the higher ceiling of those 3. Campbell may be too soon to tell. Also doesn't have a defined position yet.

That's what happened with Betts. He had a meteoric rise and was actually considering quitting baseball at one point while in MiLB.

I 100% agree, but that doesn't make him more valuable.

I wouldn't say Wong has more value than Duran.  I don't see Teel every putting up 7 WAR seasons, I can see Anthony/Mayer/Campbell all having a season like that.

Teel might have the lowest ceiling, but perhaps the highest floor of all 4.

True, but Betts was also a HS draftee, and didn't fully start taking off until his second full season in the minors.

Campbell was just drafted last year, as was Turner this year.

Of course, those guys are also college draftees, hence the comp, still what Betts did was equally if not more insane.

I'm not sure what "value" has to do with it?

If you have a higher ceiling, and you hit that ceiling, you're going to produce more value.

Word is that Teel is a plus defender, which keeps him top 4, in my book.

I'd add Arias and maybe even Cespedes as stiff competition with Belies, Perales and Monty as the next top 4-5 prospect.

I wouldn't take him out of the top 4.  I just don't think he has as high a ceiling as the other 3.

I agree. My top dozen prospects are:

1. Anthony

2. Campbell

3. Mayer

4. Teel ( I see the gap between he and Mayer as about the same as Campbell & Mayer)

5. Arias (Biggest gap in top 10 is between he and Teel)

6. Montgomery

7. Perales

8. Cespedes

9. Jh Garcia

10. Bleis

11. Meidroth

12. Fitts

How many guys on this list graduate in 2025?

Barring injury, Fitts for sure.

I'd guess that Anthony and Campbell do. If I'm "barring injury" for Story, too, then maybe Mayer does not. Otherwise, him, too.

I'm betting against Teel and Meidroth. Meidroth may be traded. He's Rule 5 in DEC '26.

So, 3-4. Outside chance of just 2.

I think 3 is good over/under.  If Fitts is definitively the 6th guy, he's getting plenty of starts over the course of a 162 game season.  Of course, the guy who gets injured always could be Richard.

I think Campbell and Anthony are good betts to graduate, Anthony looks elite and MLB ready, Campbell close to the same and fits and immediate need.  I'd bet more against Teel than Meidroth, I think Teel is going to be a much better player but between roster fit, needs etc etc I can see Meidroth getting some MLB playing time.  The roster flexibility he provides makes him a good up/down candidate all year.

If Meidroth doesn't get a lot of playing time it could be because Mayer stayed healthy and along with Story the Sox sustained a good bill of health in 2025. If Story goes down and Campbell is already up, Meidroth is the next guy up.  So one way or another I see a good 3 in there.

I think Teel is funny, because teams he could really use more seasoning behind the dish, but he's probably close to ready now and if a catcher goes down at some point in the season he's going to get called up.  I think he's a lock to making his debut in 2025......just not sure if it's soon enough to exhaust his rookie eligibility.

would someone please tell me the purpose of this. why are they being "recalled" today?

Maybe an error or just something they have to do per the CBA.

All SoxProspects shows is:

10/1/24 Worcester Reese McGuire and Yohan Ramirez elected free agency

I think some were on the IL or "inactive," and there is no IL list after the season.

Maybe it has to do with setting your 26 and 40 man roster for the winter. Don't 26 man roster players get paid more?

26 man players get a pay bump.

But when they say "recalled," that can't mean all to the 26, right?

I think it just means taken off the active MiLB rosters.

I checked a few other teams and they all had similar transactions for their 40 man players.

Soxprospects.com still has the players listed on the 60 Day IL. There are 7 of them, including Paxton, who becomes a FA. That leaves Gio, Hendriks, I Campbell, Murphy, Whitlock & Mata. Not counting anyone to be traded or DFA'd or added for Rule 5 protection, we have 46.

We have 7 FAs to be: K Jansen, Martin, Pivetta, O'Neill, D Jansen, Garcia & Sims. That brings us to 39. If you count Dobbins as the sure bet to be protected from Rule 5, we'll be at 40.

The bubble players that may go to make room for more Rule 5 or added players might be:

1. Mata (out of options)

2. Gasper (We need a #2 catcher)

3. Sogard

T 4. Shugart, Horn, Booser, Wikelman, Murphy

Trade candidates/ LHBs: Abreu, DHam, E Valdez and RHP Winckowski
