Wow! We’re worrying about trades, opt outs, and qualifying offers already we haven’t even gotten to ST yet.

Well, there's not much going on and Giolito's contract is one of the newest things to discuss.

Best case is he's pretty good, but not great and doesn't opt out. Then he has a CY caliber season in '25 when the Sox march to the playoffs.

In '24, root for 30 games of Wobbly Starts: 6 IP, 4 earned, couple Ks, BBs, 1-2 dingers. As long as he keeps us in the games, the Sox' vaunted offense should win half of those... in their quest for a .500 record... so Sam can point to evidence of improvement... closing in on his annual goal of winning worlds championships.

It seems like this same kind of discussion has gone on the last 3 offseasons. Seems to be pretty normal procedure.

I don't think teams offer QO's expecting the player to take it. I was just saying the upside of going for it and keeping Giolito is that you can get a QO. The trade return probably is better, unless you're Chaim Bloom.

If we have a good shot I think you have to keep him. If you can scout and draft well that pick should still offer some real value. But if they're statistically in it, but not really in it, like this past year I'd rather sell high.

Sox were 16th in wRC+ last year. Arizona was 18th. That's a WS caliber offense, baby!

We can sit here and talk about nothing since there are no games to talk about and the roster isn't finalized? Is that what you want?

My grass isn’t even growing this time of year. Should I paint something so we can talk about how out dries?

Sox pitching was 20th in fWAR and Arizona was 22nd. WS caliber pitching, too?

1. As fans, some of us think the Sox are still in it when reality is they are a long shot ('22 and '23).

2. Now with the expanding playoffs, the Sox have a better chance to get in as a bad playoff team and get smoked in the WC. What's the benefit in that?

If the team isn't at least as good as the '21 squad, they need to sell some of these short term contracts.

No! I would rather talk about the Red Sox getting into the postseason myself, and not worrying about what you guys seem to be worried about. I would rather be buyers than sellers. Seems more fun to me.

Sox's SP was 22nd to AZ's 14. What's the point in having a shutdown bullpen if you're already behind.

Verdict: NOT a WS pitching squad.

Hell might as well trade Raffy. They can finish in last place without him just as easily as they can with him. More importantly It’ll reduce payroll too.

Then make your projection about the Sox getting into the playoffs and talk about that. Maybe others will join in?

It's planting season for me. I'm redoing a few beds in my front yard and most of the backyard.

My son just started getting into mycology so there are pots of mushrooms all over the place too.

BTV rated this trade as FAIR. I'd say it has a 99.2% chance of happening within the next week. I should probably post it on Reddit.

I don’t think so it’s been this way for 3 years now. Seems like everyone wants to move on to the next year with hopefully being good in 2026.

It seems like that's what FO is doing with how everything is being handled. I'm just reading the tea leaves.

1. No to Yamamoto

2. Sale/Monty are too expensive

3. Go cheap on Giolito, but allow him an opt out after one year

4. Trade Sale for a prospect that is going to need time to develop

5. Trade Verdugo for MiLB guys

6. FO told a FA they need to clear MORE payroll before they make a competitive offer

7. Rumor is they are looking to deal Jansen, Martin and/or Story

Does that sound like the plan of a team that is looking to compete for real?

No to the Yam Man? It was no to the Red Sox. Anyone on here who actually thought the Red Sox ever had a chance going against the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers it was more than a pipe dream. The rest doesn’t look to good either does it. I just want to wait, and see what the team looks like on March 28. I admit it doesn’t look to promising now, but I’m still hopeful. Maybe that’s nothing, but a pipe dream either.

What do you expect the Sox to add this offseason to make this team better than the previous two iterations?

No Monty. No Snell. No Burnes.

Indeed, and discussion is not necessarily worrying.

As I’ve said right along I was hopeful for some trades for some young pitching. I never expected any of the high priced FA pitchers to be signed, so that was the only way to get some so hopeful, but not expecting.

Not even a little bit. Sounds like tanking before the season even starts.

Paint us a canvas of what it will take to get this Red Sox roster back in the postseason -- with a winning record, even. And while you're at it, drool a few of those Dali clocks on the horizon, to remind the Breslow pokes that time is money.

I know, someone is going to say this post is a pipe dream, but that's overbudget. If this was the realistic thread, it would be a gummy dream.

It's what it seems like to some people. Others see hope in those 7 bullet points.

So, trade Story? (soxprospects has Story at 2B, Mayer at SS and Grissom at DH in '25.)

Is that Zack Kelly as SP?

No Schreiber, Fitts or Bernardino love?
