The Sox front office keeps saying stuff that ends up making them look like a joke. It's no wonder my confidence is shot.

So far, the only people saying things that get them in trouble are John, Tom and Sam. The 3 Freakin' Stooges as moon said back when Sale was traded for.

I don't believe the only hired to trade Betts part.

But I don't think the sacrificial lamb part can be ruled out.

If anything the approach this offseason seems even more Bloom-like than Bloom.

Bloom could never do the Sale or Verdugo trades. He's too much of a wimp.

Oh without a doubt. I think the Sox are willing to spend when they feel the time is right. They want to spend when they think they're good enough to compete and then it's worth it to them to go over the cap. But they want the flexibility to get under in a year or two every time they go over, which is why they're weary of long term deals.

They likely wanted to emulate the Atlanta model, build up the farm, extend the young core, and when they're ready go for it.

One thing I can reconcile, that I will probably be ex-communicated for is that it's not a bad strategy. The thing is.....they didn't execute it. Bloom didn't deliver, and I think that's why he was ultimately fired.

Totally agree.

On longer term deals, we really have not changed much, and one could argue we have done more... (there was the obvious lull between Sale, Nate and Bogey and Story)

2024: 10 yrs Devers

2023: 5 yrs Yoshi

2022: 6 yrs Story

2019: 5 Sale, 4 Nate

2018: 5 JD

2017: none

2016: 7 Price, 4 Porcello

2015: 5 Pablito, 4 HRam

Actually the guy no one is talking about much is Cora. He said stuff that made him sound fed up with the state of the roster and hungry for serious improvements.

The MIA org isn't very good at the moment. Not sure if that's due to scouting or development.

They have churned out 7 SP'ers before this guy left, last year I think, including Pablo Lopez, that would make the Sox rotation.

Didn't he trade some guy named Mookie?

He must also have known getting nothing for Bogey, JD and others was going to elicit criticism, when it still amounted to losing.

Especially if he had a chance to trade Sale, and his full salary, and didn’t do it.

Pablo Lopez hasn't been a real MiLB player since 2018.

"The MIA org isn't very good at the moment." The last few years, the farm has taken a bit of a nosedive. Also, the previous director wasn't let go, but promoted to interim GM when Ng left.

Until Renfroe…

Trading Renfroe isn't even at the level of trading Verdugo. C'mon. Renfroe will be on his 7th team in 6 years this season. Bloom was just continuing Renfroe's musical chair journey.

For a guy who couldn’t hit his weight.

Well, I think the guy I'm talking about was in charge from 2018-2021 or 2022.

How many SP'ers have we produced, since then that are ebtter than any of these 7, except maybe Bello> ECab, and maybe Houck>ECab.

I see 7 SP'ers that would all be in our rotation. That's my point.

We need a guy who knows how to find and develop SP'ers. If he was not a big part of that with MIA, then disregard the point I made.

Also? The trade was to get great prospects like Hamilton and Binelas!!!!!!!!!

Screw that, he had a chance to bring in many more prospects at deadlines for those guys, Eovaldi, Sale, Paxton, you name it -- and didn't.

When you already know your obituary will read "the man who traded Mookie Betts" why not at least try to improve your Boston legacy by dealing off players who'll probably fall off the Hall of Fame ballot in their first year of eligibility.

I was driving the Fire Sale 2022 bandwagon. (I even mentioned trying to persuade Bogey to waive his no-trade cause, so he could play for a winner and lose the QO tag.)

I think Bloom also thought JBJ could bounce back on O and to give us plus D in RF. Maybe the prospects were expected to be the best part of the deal to him, but neither we super highly regarded.

I remember saying, "Bloom must like these prospects better than everyone else, for this deal to make sense."

Remember, the "head-scratcher" comment that sent some into a tizzy?

For the most part, the majority of the board didn't like this trade. At best, it was wait and see. Sox should have held onto Renfroe. Some of the shine from the '21 season would have worn off eventually though.

I remember not having a problem with the trade because I thought they were buying the prospects, would actually go out and get a better outfielder and use JBJ as a 4th outfielder.

They did not do that.

You calling him fat!?! Real mature…

163 is what he hit in Milwaukee, and you was making excuses for him like facing different pitchers in different parks, and you was all for the trade, so I don’t think 163 would be classified as fat in JBJ’s case, but that’s where you took it, and for what purpose?

That trade that Notin was all for turned into a head scratching discussion for more than a day on here.

You're missing a lot o the backstory though. We spent YEARS litigating whether or not to trade JBJ every year. When he was finally gone, it was like a veil had been lifted on the forum. When Bloom brought him back, it was just all so confusing due to the layers of conversations we had over the years.

I'd be like Henry bringing Bloom back next season as Sam's Assistant.
