Winter meetings rarely have any real activity. Ok they did that one year when e had the lockout coming…

Last year had the Xander surprise and some other activity, but recently it's been a notinburger.

Re turning down the move to LA - I think this might be one of those cases where 'family considerations' really did play into it - because otherwise it made no sense at all.

He did hold out of a season for family issues. We don't know the full picture so I'm not going to judge.

Most recent years they have been. The one exception with the flurry of activity was the right before the lockout…

I've seen other lists where the Sox were listed. I'm going to let this offseason shakeout before I judge Breslow harshly.

I’ll be flexible as he does things. Most teams have done even less than the Sox.

But there will be Kia jokes!

Well, the Soto trade was a pretty big deal and Ohtani should be picking his team any day now.

As for the Sox, it's still quiet times...

With the younger CBO/GM's who are texting and on their phones all the time, I think it's less of a big deal to be in the same room at once. Not sure if there's a way to juice up the offseason or if it even needs to happen.

I guess if I'm going to continue beating Mr. Dithers to death I'll have to let you do the same with the Kia joke...

Yamamoto said he's waiting until after Ohtani signs.

@tylermilliken_

.

@jonmorosi continues to connect the Red Sox to Yoshinobu Yamamoto this morning.

“The Red Sox would love to get him.”

Still, that dinner between Yamamoto and Steve Cohen is terrifying.

zzzzz... ho hum - Breslow has added some power arms. Maybe a few will become something other than prospects. At the present, I don't see any reason to even be looking forward to next season. I guess maybe we will find out once and for all whether the state of our farm system is any good in reality or not. It is early and it would seem that moves have to be made in order for us to be anything more than what we had last year. Idk - Maybe he hasn't had to field many calls asking about possible trades from our own system because most people don't see their awesome potential in trade.

You do realize 1) I don’t need anyone’s permission and 2) your acceptance of the joke does make it less funny to me…

Per MLBTR, Ohtani might sign by Sunday.

Maybe not this Sunday, but one of the next eight…

Yeah, if Moto is excited by the idea of playing in NY, it's already game over, man.

By all accounts Ohtani is very methodical, has already narrowed the field to two, and it'll be this Sunday.

I disagree.

All it takes is for Judge to go on the IL.

It's December 7th. Only 12 players have signed deals for over 10M a year. There should be about 25-30 more of those deals to go and players that the Sox will actually want. Aside from Nola and Gray, nobody interesting has signed.

Double misunderstanding. We were talking about Moto signing with the Mets.

What's unsettling is that we were talking exactly like this 1 year ago.

It's a different FO this year. We don't have Desperate Dave swinging his nuts all over the Winter Meetings like he used to do.

Boy, that Steve Cohen sure is an enthusiastic, proactive sonofagun to fly off to meet with Moto, huh? Along with having the most money...

But we kind of need something top shelf, which arguably reduces what's left of the FA field to Moto and Snell, and the Moto prospects are shaky at best.

Yeah. It looks like the industry is waiting for Yamamoto to orient the rest of the market.

Are we sure about this? Gray and E-Rod didn't wait around and signed for very reasonable and predictable numbers.

Don't be so shellfish. I do suspect Brez to ink a pitcher from Japan, but at a lot better savings and a lot less risk than Yo Yama...

... and after he signs Imanaga, he'll swing a big blockbuster for another starter and regular position player that will blow up the board.

Yamo says he's waiting for Ohtani's decision, which should come within the next 2-3 days.

I'm hoping for Yamo, but don't expect it to happen.

Many feel Snell is the only top shelf SP'er remaining, but I think Monty is very close, and if we add a solid #2 FA or a 1-2 via trade, I'd be fine with Monty.

Remaining SP'ers

Top shelf: Yamo, Snell, Kershaw (unlikely anywhere but LAD)

Near top shelf: Monty (maybe Imanaga)

Solid #2/3 types: Imanaga (maybe Stroman)

Decent: Stroman, Lugo, Giolito, Clevinger (maybe Wacha)

Okay, if we go large at #1: Wacha, Paxton, Flaherty, Montas

Not really interested: Mahle, Severino

I could see Burnes & Imanaga, for sure.

It might be Rogers and Imanaga.

I doubt we take a chance on Bieber.
