Agree, and as the Red Sox have found out the past 2 years you need closer to 10 SP than 5 to get you through the season too.

They didn’t just learn that in the last two years. It’s been reality for many. He k I’ve been saying it on message boards for years.

The problem is it’s just not always easy to have that level of depth. Hard to find 5 guys that are good enough to have in your MLB rotation but who are also willing to sign minor league contracts…

I think you misread the post.

Bottom line is no individual in Boston passed on Scherzer and waited a year for Price…

sorry if i confused u on who i meant

What I mean is that Clevinger is very likely to take a one year pillow contract.

Only if you're going to stock the rotation with guys who can't stay healthy like Eovaldi, Wacha, Hill, Sale, Whitlock and Paxton.

But why? Are they taking McGuire too? Makes no sense.

In only 96 games last year 26-year-old Minnesota catcher Ryan Jeffers ranked eighth in fWAR among catchers with at least 300 plate appearances:

Another Minnesota blogger wonders whether Twins closer Jhoan Duran could move to the starting rotation:

Could an unexpected offseason trend affect the Twins' bullpen hierarchy (and their starting rotation) in the near future?

Just a dump of Vaz on a team that doesn't want to take on $$$. LOL.

We understand dumping Vaz.

We don't understand why the Sox would want him.

(I'd take McGuire, even if the money was the same.)

John Henry.

He doesn’t make the decisions. He just sits in his booth like Caesar and gives a thumb up or thumb down.

I bet he even wears a laurel when he does it…

He gave a thumbs down to Lester one year, but a thumbs up to Price the next. Why?

More ******** to ignore:

@BOSSportsGordo

Some Red Sox notes from @JonHeyman on his @BRWalkoff stream:

Mid-tier SP market will be active in the next 7-10 days, Sox in on that.

Sox in on DH market, which will heat up in the next 7-10 days.

Blue Jays favorites for Jorge Soler. DBacks and Red Sox next, but Sox seem to just have their eye on everyone.

Said Sox keep looking at players but need to do more.

Angels, Giants, Phillies, Red Sox were teams he listed for Snell.

Rangers most likely for Montgomery, Cubs after them. LAA/SFG/BOS/PHI on periphery.

Questionable sense of direction?

Because Henry started losing his marbles around that time.

The 217 million dollar question.

Backlash over Lester fiasco?

Realization that winning without an ace was highly improbable?

Think Price was the guy most likely worth breaking the over 30 guideline?

The Just Baseball Fans podcast offers its take on the Red Sox:

He's right: "it's embarrassing."

"They could trade for an ace and sign Monty or Snell, and be right there!"

"These guys are not the Orioles! They have $60M to spend."

"Bello is the number 1, Giolito, Pivetta, Houck and Crawford...Nope! This is worse than last year, and they were bottom 10, then."

"Trade Jansen for a SP'er prospect near ML ready.. a flyer." (Landon Sims?)

They suggest Clevinger or maybe even Paxton.

"Slaten is going to be great for them."

Then Henry and the rest of ownership shouldn't have any say in who gets signed, just in overall budget. It has been theorized that they pushed for Panda and Hanley. If so, it wasn't Ben that needed to be tossed.

If he wasn't saved by Theo draft picks and DD moves, it would be over.

Bottom 10 fWAR, but with an additional 2.5 fWAR they would be top 10 of the league.

Last year:

Kutter 2.2 in 23 starts, could do better with more starts

Sale 2.1 replaced by Gilito with 2.4 fWAR projected by Steamer

Bello 1.6 projected to have 2.5 fWAR by Steamer

Pivetta 1.0 projected to have 2.0 fWAR by Steamer

Houck 1.2 projected to have 1.9 fWAR by Steamer

An acquisition or even just going with this group could get them to top 10.

Just getting rid of the negative fWAR (-1.1) from starting Jacques, Kluber, Ort, et al will boost the overall rating of the starters to begin with.
