sure rather than simply sign a decent FA SP better to trade 1 of our top prospects for a SP with only a year or 2 of control then watch him walk when Henry won't buck up.

A trade need not be for a 1-2 year pitcher.

So fun to see you getting on board with Turnbull and Chirinos after blasting those suggestions when I made them earlier. Brad Keller also awaits his apology ;)

I'm not "on board" with those suggestions. They are just what is left on the board unfortunately. :(

Using Houck to piggyback Hill was just part of Cora’s ageism. I’m surprised he didn’t bring a stretcher out to the mound when he had to yank Hill…

I guess it was meant to get Hill to finish the whole season without hitting the IL by limiting his innings? It didn't work.

Matt Moore gets $9M with Angels.

WOW!

Hoskins to get $34M/2 with Brewers.

Too much for Moore. Good deal for Hoskins.

He did start 26 games- second to Pivetta and more than Nate & Wacha. (26 GS was as much as Crawford & Wink, combined.)

Winckowski had 26 starts if you include the time he spent in AAA in '22. Was he supposed to drive up to BOS and hijack the mound?

That 26 starts by Hill was the 4th most in his 19 year career.

(I'm not defending the piggyback idea. I hated it.)

But on a staff with Injured List residents Chris Sale, Michael Wacha and Nate Eovaldi, the one guy to get the Early Hook / Dedicated Replacement treatment is the guy who pitched 158 IP the season before and just happened to be 42 years old…

He also had better numbers than most others after 18 batters.

Ah yes. Remember the good ole days? When we got to discuss the virtues of signing Ohtani, Yamamoto, Boggaerts, Betts ... and now we have ... Moore? Hey wasn't he the guy who lost the title to Foreman? I didn't even know he played baseball.

I think only one poster mentioned Moore to fill our LH'd pen need.

Less than the year before and the year after it.

The lede:

Baseball is, at its core, an entertainment product. Messaging and public relations can matter almost as much as the actual product. If your team is rebuilding, you’re selling hope, the future of your farm system. If your team is trying to win now, you’re selling the players currently on the roster. It’s not terribly complicated. Unless you’re the Boston Red Sox — in which case no one has any idea what you’re selling.

Moore was one of the next big things down in Tampa that never worked out. He had TJS and regressed afterwards. I think he also wasn't as good as they thought he would be before TJS.

Hard to get the message straight when the guy with the checkbook and the ultimate say isn't the one doing the talking.

Kind of amazing that 3 of his top 4 GS seasons were at ages 41, 42 & 43.

He's had a weird career and early on, many of his innings and starts were in MiLB. He was also pushed between starting and relieving for a while. It's not entirely like he figured out how to be healthy at an old age, but he seems to have had a better stretch of good luck recently.

One thing I didn't realize is that Bellinger and M Chapman are both Boras clients along with Snell and Monty. Scott is outdoing himself this year.

Yup. Even for him this has been quite something. Hopefully he'll have let the horses go by ST.

She isn't wrong. It feels like the top of the organisation are all over the place at the moment, leading to this garbled shite we hear every week.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if signed Monty even after all this.

@brianmctaggart

Dana Brown on maybe adding a LH bat: "If we could somehow get a left-handed bat, preferably an outfielder with some speed, that type of package we'll pounce on it. Make no mistake, our club is really good."

Crag, send Duran to HOU!

Unless he's going with that 5D chess.

Who would you want in return?

BTV has...

37 Yainer Diaz C

30 Chaz McCormick OF

19 B Abreu RP + 11 Melton OF prospect (I'd like to get Javier 3.1 SP added)

0.8 Urquiddy could be a throw in

Duran is 34.

I'd do McCormick & Javier or maybe Abreu, Melton & Javier (or Urquiddy)

HOU will not give their catcher for Duran.

I wonder if we added on could we get Valdez.

Then again with only 2 years left, he'd be going to free agency just as we're ready to go for it

God, I remember really really really wanting Beltre to sign an extension, but peopel were skeptical that he was only having a good contract year.
