I am getting tired of reading about those 2. It is old bloody news. I realize that this has been a slow offseason { AGAIN} but let's move forward

Mookie will still be talked about not only on here, but everywhere for years to come.

Offseason’s are so much easier when your organization can draft and develop quality starting pitching!!!!!

I think Campbell and Fitts will stick around and help at some point.

Weissert, maybe.

Bloom swung and missed, a lot, but Schreiber, Winckowski and Whitlock are still around.

According to MLB trade rumors the the Sox are looking to shed more payroll.

Pitchforks and torches are definitely in the picture.

The Sox can’t afford those!!

Maybe plastic forks and Bic lighters…

This is the main problem with this organization. And the truth is, it can't be fixed overnight. Breslow can make all the right moves and draft picks and it will still take years to pay dividends.

I think Sox fans could stomach the team not wanting to go out and spend hundreds of millions of dollars on players entering their 30's if they locked up their young studs. That ship has obviously sailed, and there's no silver bullet short of everything going right next season. Which even then, they still need two starters. I just don't think they are willing to spend big on guys like Montgomery and Snell anymore. I think we will be selecting from guys like Stroman, Paxton, Imanaga, and I still think they can trade for someone.

Given some time, it will be interesting to see if Breslow does, with trades, and his first draft next year.

It may be true that Breslow is going to have to operate under the same parameters that Bloom did. If so, we have to pray he's much better at this than Bloom was.

I'll pay for my own if this payroll cutting s*** is real.

It certainly has been true to date. It seems the Sox are trying to load up on prospects and veterans on 1 year deals to keep the team relevant

There's no way they can justify cutting payroll with the money they're making. Certainly not after firing Bloom and sending the 'full throttle' message, and having reset the tax last year. Calls for them to sell the team will be deafening, seriously.

Fans haven’t been interested in the team in recent years. So, ownership will increase profitability by cutting payroll. It should be another season of watching boring mediocrities that don’t play the game fundamentally correct.

as long as idiots like me and others keep drinking their kool aid they will keep cutting. i keep watching MLBTR to see they have traded Janssen or Martin for prospects..

When some posters say we blew it, t they sound like they think it is certain. Maybe I’m wrong on that.

Maybe they just think it was way more likely Bogey would have said yes tganks I do, which of course is fine.

Maybe a poster or two will chime in and say hey think it’s a fact, the Sox blew it with Bogey or even Betts.

On Betts, I suggested we offer $400M/12, and I think he’d have taken that but im still not certain.

As a client of the astute Scott Boras, Xander Bogaerts probably wanted to test free agency. It turns out that was a very wise choice. Signing an extension before that would have been a big mistake on his part.

How it turned out for Bogey now it would have been a mistake, but I don’t think anyone two years ago were projecting $280M.

Maybe Boras ? That's why he is the best in the business.

People make the same wrong assumption with Mookie. " We should have signed him to an extension so he never reached free agency. " Yeah, right. Easy to say.

All it takes is 1, and he found it. Right now Boris is most likely having fun entertaining suitors for Monty, and Snell.

The only other options were trade him before he reached or let him reach and hope to outbid everyone else for his services. Are you saying it would have been easier to outbid the Yankees?

The point is; why would Mookie sign an extension for less than he could get in free agency ?

Then why did he sign one with LA?

Betts said he loved everything about being with the Dodgers, and focused on winning rings, and championships. Next question. How about a harder one.

Incorrect.

He hadn’t played a game with them when he signed that deal, and he was part of 3 AL East champions and one WS champ team in Boston…

How does that matter that he hadn’t played a game with the Dodgers, or not. Those were his words, and said he was focused on winning, and bringing Championships back to LA. I guess Mookie must have seen enough since he didn’t sign until July 2020 to make that statement. I wouldn’t talk for him like you seem to be trying to do.

Oh, he said something in the press. Just like Werner said “full throttle!”

He had a very significant history of playing winning baseball in Boston. Maybe Boston never offered him enough. Maybe he wanted some security in case COVID caused a prolonged shutdown. Maybe he wanted free agency until COVID made him re-assess his priorities.

But that story you cited , while it touches all the Bull Durham Talking Points, didn’t necessarily agree with history.

And most certainly flies in the face of the very point dgalehouse was trying to make…

As usual looking for an I gotcha moment, and as using trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, and coming up short. If you don’t believe Mookie said what reasons he signed with LA then look it up. It’s all right there. Up up on old history again I see.

Mookie said a lot of things. I didn’t say you lied. I said Mookie spoke in Press-Friendly Talking Points.

Do you believe everything players say after they sign a big deal? If so, then you should believe no player ever has signed for the money, and that money has never been an issue with any free agent ever…

Like I said look it up if you really want to know by Jeff Passan July 2020. What did you really want the answer to be on why Mookie signed with the Dodgers, and in the big scheme of things what does it really matter to you?🤭🙈.
