Chaim would make him a Yoshida he couldn't refuse...

But regarding the Yamamoto meetings, smoke needs some editing when it comes to celestial bodies:

In LA, stars are always aligned. In Boston in the early 2020s, the asteroids are maligned.

LOL.

Maybe, what we thought was a star was just a satélite.

That's true. It's like when you've had nothing but salisbury 'faux' steak for years and now you have a chance to get the filet mignon!

Seriously the Red Sox need a top of the rotation pitcher in a bad way and here comes Yamamoto in his prime age 25 to offer us a solution.

Remember when it was fun to watch a Red Sox "Ace" pitcher and you knew that on those days you pretty much had the win in the bag because he was going to dominate the opposing lineup? I remember those days, it was a long time ago but they existed.

The Sox aren’t outbidding the Mets for him. The Mets unloaded a TON of salary at the deadline last year in anticipation of a moment like this…

Call me crazy, but I think even if the Mets hadn't done that it would be hard to outbid Cohen.

What happens if the bidding for Moto gets so high that it's a guaranteed insanely risky overpay?

Going last puts pressure on making a presentation that beats everyone else's. Maybe not just the money, but pulling out all the stops to make the player feel like he is the top priority.

They have to match or exceed the one that has impressed him, before coming to meet with BOS. I hope we are up to the task.

That can work to your advantage as well. I've done a lot of hiring, and I always feel like I get a recency bias. Someone can blow me away at the begining of an interviewing process and then I find someone at the end I fall in love with.

Of course, this is why I do a second round of interviews.

I think the Sox have every opportunity to win this thing if they want to.

I don't see how the Sox have a single advantage in the Moto sweepstakes. If the guy wants to be on a winner, the Sox are coming off back to back 78 win seasons, fired their CBO, and have done nothing yet this offseason. Moto's management team will be well aware of the Sox apparent front office dysfunction.

"They just have to outbid everybody else." How do you outbid a guy who's worth 20 billion and wants his team desperately to win?

We're getting Shammed, folks.

Let's hope Montgomery is still available after this dog and pony show is over.

You ask that as if you believe it’s only one possible outcome and not the ironclad reality of the situation…

If the Sox sign Montgomery and Imanaga, I’ll be ecstatic. More likely however, they sign Giolito and trade for a pitcher.

I’m not as down on Giolito as many on here are. He’s probably a smarter target than Snell…

I’ve said all along that I can’t see the Red Sox outbidding the Yankees, Mets, or the Dodgers, nor would I want them too. The same goes for Monty, and Snell who both will get paid more money than they are worth. Not, because they are that good, but, because they are available, and many teams are in need. Gray wasn’t worth $25M/yr either. Give up some prospects, make some trades, and make the Red Sox better, or at least better on paper.

Giolito has averaged 1.4 fWAR the last 2 seasons. That stinks!

So, Yamo wants to play for a winner, and that's one reason he'll choose the NY Mets?

Am I missing something?

I get the money angle, but will Cohen pay $1M more than any amount? There comes a point, where every GM realizes the money can be spent batter, elsewhere.

I think the Sox snoozed hard on Gray. $75 million for the guy who had the best FIP in baseball last year.

Let's face it, we have a totally dysfunctional management team. And the only real difference between Breslow and Bloom is probably that Craig played baseball.

I'm thinking we end up with Imanaga and maybe your guy, E Cabrera, but even that might be wishful thinking. (I'll be bummed, if that's it.)

Cohen is going to spend them into a winner. Plus I think they've been building up their farm. At least they have the aura of really f'king trying, unlike the Sox.

FanGraphs and Steamer project 27-year-old Jarren Duran with 2024 wRC+ and WAR of 98 and 1.3 in 128 games:

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jarren-duran/24617/stats?position=OF

Duran this year finally posted a productive partial season after posting a negative 0.4 in each of the previous two years.

Seattle is unlikely to have interest.

Well, you've been a Duran hater for a long, long time. Supposedly, Kelenic was the far superior prospect to you, but the Mariners dumped his ass this offseason because he has been a worse hitter than Duran so far.

And for every owner that number is lower than it is for Cohen…

I’m sure The Yam Man had somewhat of an idea where he wants to play, before all this dog, and pony show even started. Money will play a big part too, but when you really get right down to it what’s the big lure of coming to Boston? Especially if he doesn’t like clam chowda like Yoshida does.

If they miss out on Moto and Monty, why not just punt 2024? It would probably be the smartest thing.

At what point do we note that Steamer projected Duran to be worth 0.6 fWAR in 2023 and Duran was worth 2.1. If he continues to maintain be 150% than his projections, his true projected 3.2 fWAR does make him equal to Castillo

He's going to get a ton of money, obviously a lot more than originally projected. Now he can pick the place he really wants to play.

It's happening! The Red Sox reportedly are meeting with Yamamoto!

They might have to shell out a 300m dollar contract to bring him home to Boston, but I say do it, just don't let him leave town!

Also you have a fellow japanese player in Yoshida, leverage him to convince Yamamoto to sign on the dotted line!

The stars are lined up... can Breslow get the job done in possibly his biggest move of his early tenure with the Red Sox?

Probably 10/350 at least.

I believe the Sox currently have less on the books than the Mets.

If the failed talks with the Mariners are any indication, there's a good chance the Sox find it's not the best time for them to swing a big trade for a pitcher either.

Not at all, and I’ve been saying that since before all this offseason stuff even started. I’m not for over paying in money, and years for the Gray, Monty, and Snell types. Go make some trades. I know you guys are all in for these pitches, because the Red Sox have the big need, but I just don’t think they are worth what they will get.

I'm not saying he won't spend. I'm saying at some point, he might think, "I can do better with my money" than signing Yamo.

Let's say the price gets so high, he could sign Imanaga and Monty, instead. Might he not decide to do that, and let the Sox have Yamo?
