Bloom has tried to trade Dalbec for the past 12 months. He should have dumped him on another team by now.

He's holding out for more- like he did with JD.

Posted
Eovaldi had an injury and still was a year removed from a 5.7 fWAR season. Paxton's resume isn't that.

He doesn’t have to be Eovaldi, the point is what your feelings are on his medicals.

If you think a healthy Paxton can replicate this year and do so with a little more stamina? If you believe this, you believe he’s worth a QO

Which he might have waived, but reportedly the Sox told him they weren't going to trade him regardless.

I may be wrong, but I believe it was Bogaerts who told the SOX FO not to trade him. Bogaerts had the no trade clause to back that up.

Still talking about Bobby.

Who also can’t be traded right now.

Got it. I misread what you wrote.

I think some team might give us a single A prospect for a chance on Bobby Dee, but only if they have 40 man roster room and need a DH.

I'm not. Are you?

You said he was midpack based on all Sox over a certain PA threshold so you were comparing him to other positions which weren't relevant.

I just made a list of all Sox players with 300+ PAs and their OPS.

You chose to compare him to the 2Bman. Someone else compared him to our SS.

You do what you want and want to view as relevant.

Not until after the WS.

If Dalbec does not get moved this off season, as part of a trade package, then he should get DFA'ed by late ST and clear the roster spot . He is simply overage/underachieving at the MLB level. There have been many like that .

He shouldn’t take up a roster spot in the offseason that could prevent any potential move that could improve the MLB team.

There are a few players that could easily be traded or DFA'd to make room for Rule 5 additions (5-8 slots, maybe) and roster additions via free agency or trade (3-6 slots, maybe.)

60 Day IL Players will be added of dealt with, somehow:

Duran - added

Kelly - added

Mills - added

Mondesi, Kluber & Ort will be free agents or DFA'd

The three added can take the place of JT, Duvall and Paxton- the free agents-to-be.

The non-tenders, DFA or trade candidates:

DFA

Logan Gillaspie

Zach Weiss

Kyle Barraclough

Mauricio Llovera

Joe Jacques

Justin Garza

Trade/DFA

Bobby Dalbec

Bryan Mata

Trade?

David Hamilton

Zach Kelly

Brandon Walter

Nick Robertson

Joely Rodriguez ($4.25M option)

how much $$$ are we in for on Mondesi who didn't play an inning for us?

$3.045M/1, but we traded Josh Taylor $1.025, so the hit was$2.2M

Forget Mondesi ever existed. He cost the Sox $3.045M for -0- performance . Not his personal fault that his knee never seemed to heal well enough to play. Maybe offer him a non-roster ST invite . As Moon notes, we didn't pay Taylor.

It's another curious signing by Bloom's team. A player with a known injury to fill a true position of need ( 2023 SS, 1st half). Kluber did not have an obvious injury but clearly was worn out .

We did end up needing a SS who could play D. If Mondesi's knee healed in the normal time, he'd have been useful.

How is that curious?

Yes, both Mondesi and Story were out to start the year, but Mondesi was thought to be possibly ready by May.

Kluber was well rested, after missing years of work.

I think the idea was try Kike for 4-6 weeks, and if he was not working out, Mondesi would be ready to carry us to Story.

The whole plan fell apart when Kike imploded from opening day on.

Yes, and...

Chang went on the IL...

DHam sucked...

Reyes came too late, and then was not played at SS, daily...

I would like to prevent further evidence that Tristan Casas should never be traded.

We all remember how tremendously he struggled at the beginning of the year. At the beginning of the day on June 1st he was hitting .196, with a .310 OBP and a .673 OPS.

Since then he's hit

.310/.405/.578.

If this is more of a reflection of his skill set then over the course of a full season he would 38 HR's and drive in 98 RBIS. I'd expect those runs batted in to increase as he moves up in the lineup, as he should. Casas is still young, he's a rookie, he is still likely getting better, learning the league, and learning how to be a better hitter. The kid is a true student of the game, and of hitting, so I don't even think he's at his ceiling yet. He's going to be a true middle-of-the-order bat. A guy who hits for average, power, and takes walks. That's rare.

Casas is the type of player that a team like Atlanta locks up to long-term deals early in their careers. I hope the Sox start doing more of the same.

The only issue was that Bloom took a few too many chances last offseason and got bit by most of them.

I don't think they stashed Hamilton because they believed he could play SS. They stashed him because they weren't sure how the 2023 changes would impact the game and didn't want to give up on the only true base stealer in the org.

He's been a top 10 offensive talent since May 1, 9th in SLG, 8th in OBP. It was really one bad month. If he can fix his defensive shortcomings, he'll be a monster.

And if not he'll be a DH monster.

In no way am I trying to equate casas to Dalbec, but there was a time Dalbec was showig the same turn-around Casas showed this year...

2023 Casas

.642 up to June 3rd (180 PAs)

1.006 after June 3rd (291 PAs)

2021 Dalbec

.595 up to June 8th (173 PAs)

.947 6/8 to 9/10 (226 PAs) and .916 from 6/8 to the end of '21 (280 PAs)

Again, I'm not feeling the same with Casas as I did with Dalbec after his great second half of 21, but I feel we need to be cautious with our expectations with Casas. IMO, I see him getting even better and only worry about his D. He has a great plate approach and seems to be able to adjust, well.

I think the umps squeezed the rookie, early in the year, too.
