Nothing like 1 for 12 in games at Fenway that might have mattered . He who shall go nameless Edited by vegasbob

Llovera has become the "closer" in the losses to Houston, except the Sox only use him when trailing. No worries, it will get him an invite to ST

The SOX had won 5 championships from 1903-1918. They've won 4 championships from 2004-2018. Based on this pattern, I'm predicting the SOX next championship will be in 2104. Perhaps 2103.

If I'm wrong, I'll be eating worms.

Sox scored 11 runs in 27 innings vs the Astros, but the run differential was 15 runs. No starter went 5 innings. 3 games combined showed a cumulative :

23/102 hits/AB ; 4-24 w/RISP; and 25 LOBs.

I think Max had it right. It's mostly pitching and hitting, none of which showed up for 3 key games. Adios, amigos

Kutter did escape today with no errors made behind him.

Back then fewer teams and, more importantly, you only had to win one game in the postseason.

I do my share of griping, but I have enjoyed watching this team this season. Right now the pitching and hitting are struggling. Way back in the first post moonslav said Crawford has been the ace this month--and he promptly got beaten to a pulp. That's baseball.

Both the Dodgers and the Astros committed more errors than the Sox in the two most recent series. And those errors by opposing teams are invariably ignored by the cognescenti on talksox because they are accepted as part of the game. Errors happen. But nor for the Sox fielders--those errors are criminal offenses which cry out for justice to be served.

The Sox do in fact lead MLB in errors, but their fielding percentage is still 98 freaking percent--bad as they are. Fielding--even when you plays that you/we think should have been made but were not counted as errors--have not hurt the Sox the way the hitting and pitching have.

The Red Sox always do well the first 18 years of a century.

Let’s just hope they don’t repeat 1919-1937, when they were mediocre a few times snd downright terrible the rest (2 seasons with winning records, 1 at .500 and a lot in the .300s)

I really don't think that's going to happen, but I also don't know what JH is thinking/planning.

Max let it go. The Red Sox benefited today by errors by Houston which led to another out having to be made, more pitches having to be thrown and the Red Sox getting 2 unearned runs in the process. Of course the Red Sox juggernaut offense was without their 2 best hitters in Masa, and Story Land.

Good decision, I think. The lineup had that one fantastic rally, then just rolled over. Jansen needed the work, but didn't need to go 2 innings.

What scorers call errors is an even bigger joke than it used to be.

Our team has made dozens of bad plays not counted as errors more than any other team. I'd bet my house on that.

DOZENS! Easily.

Yes, offense and pitching still matters more, but defense has matter more this year than ever- for the Sox.

Of course the Sox benefitted. But we see Astros/Dodgers errors differently, as part of the game. I'm sticking with my 98% fielding percentage comment and saying talksoxers over-react to Sox errors and especially to "plays that should have been made but weren't errors."

Max, big difference is we see the Red Sox every day. The bats have been silent at times, the pitching has been bad at times, the base running has been bad at times, but the Defense has been bad all year.

Like I said earlier in the thread....this is just not a good baseball team in any aspect of the game. It looked like a barely middling baseball time at the start of the season and it didn't get any better. It relies on a 38 year old and Rafi for is offense and once Rafi tossed in the towel that left the 38 year old. Its pitching always looked suspect and how Bloom thought he was not going to run into a gassed staff the way the new post season has condensed the days but not the games of the regular season is beyond me.

Stick a fork in them....they are done.....probably a good thing as this organization needs to make some changes. The ship is not just hitting some rough seas....its going down by the head.....at least in the baseball organization. I am sure Henry is happy as can be. He has checked out.

To add to the parallels, of course:

Babe Ruth was sold between the 1919 and 1920 seasons.

Mookie Betts was traded between the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

If you think it's a "good thing" we did so poorly, so it will force changes, I think you will be disappointed.

There will be moves, but we could be absolutely be disappointed by them.

Yup, kinda like this past off season. Many of us thought this was going to be a big year based on salary they could spend but it didn't turn out well.
