8 walks by the Sox pitchers in this game to go with the 10 hits.

So far in this series there is little evidence the Sox pitching staff is decent.

Great freaking fantastic win, however!!!

Who else was available?

You tell me. You made the remark not knowing what other choices there were, not me.

I know Llovera was warming up.

It's easy to say a team as inconsistent in batting, starting pitching and relief pitching is in their rightful place, but I'm still hopeful, we can have a stretch where it all comes together at once.

Maybe it's pink glasses.

Maybe it's a pipedream.

But we have had some very long stretches where the rotation did very well.

We have had some very long stretches where the did did very well.

We have had some very long stretches where the line up did very well.

Granted, our D has sucked, all year, but let's put it all together over these last 5 weeks.

Mathematically it’s possible, obviously. But from what I remember Houston is ahead of us and so is Toronto. There aren’t many games left to right the ship. Both teams ahead of us are better teams and their records prove it. Unless our SP and our defense improve greatly we won’t be playing in October.

I did not say the odds are in our favor. Far from it. But it's freaking August, and the history of MLB tells us that we need to get well into September before deciding it's over.

But let's get to the specifics. There are three AL wild card slots. With this win the Sox are 3 games out of the 3d slot (held by the Astros), and 4 games out of the 2d slot (held by the Rangers). That's pretty good, I think. But I would be negligent if I didn't add that 5 pretty good teams vying for those 3 slots--Rays, Rangers, Astros, Blue Jays, and, yes, our Sox. That's a lot and means the Sox must beat out two of those other four teams.

I forgot one other factor. On August 4 the Sox played their first of 48 games in a row with just 3 days off. That's pretty tough on a pitching stuff, and I think that's a big part of their struggles.

We needed Martin for the ninth

Martin came in with the game on the line in the eighth and did his job. Not using your best reliever when the bases are loaded and the cleanup hitter is up in a 2 run game because you want him to face the 5-6-7 hitters in the ninth is how games get lost…

And a month ago you said this team would be -and I’m quoting you here - “luck to win 70 games.”

Still think they finish out going 1-31?

We play 3 v TOR and 3 v HOU, so in that way, our future can be in our own hands.

Wow a rare defensive mistake for Mookie

I loved it. He's not on the SOX anymore, so fk him. He didn't want to stay in Boston because he knew he could make more money in LA on side projects. Fans are going crazy over a guy who didn't even want to play in their city.

...and now he says he always wanted to stay in Boston.

Boo- Hoo.

I have a question. Why is the SOX best reliever used the least?

They usually only pitch super high leverage innings and throw all out for the short term. Guys like Martin and Jansen don't go multiple innings.

Here are the RP PAs Against- and OPS Against

289 Winckowski .765

201 Pivetta .561

172 Jansen .657

172 Murphy .724

168 Martin .576

135 Bernardino .667

119 Schreiber .716

What's not to like about consistent balls and strike calls?

Because then we don’t get the super fun element of Middle Aged men controlling a major part of the game! Don’t you love watching your favorite athletes like CB Bucknor, Laz Diaz and Angel Hernandez decide games??

I'd rather watch them in a strip club.

So what exactly is the evidence that he DIDN'T want to stay in Boston?

Like I said the other day none of us know the whole story in all of this, but my opinion is that both the Red Sox, and Mookie got what they wanted. Like someone said the other day don’t listen to what someone says, but watch what they do.

Look at his baseball card. He's always been a guy who averages less than an inning per outing. He's on pace for a little over 50 innings which is about exactly what you'd expect.

He threw 29 pitches on August 23. And he's 37. If Cora was riding him hard and he got injured that would pretty much finish our season.

How does watch what they do explain it? Did Mookie ask to be traded to the Dodgers? This isn't the NBA.

This is the same team that gave absurdly lowball offers to Jon Lester and Xander Bogaerts.

Is it too much to believe they also tried to lowball Mookie? He has denied the rumored $300 mill offer ever happened.
