I am a Laureano fan. My only issues are

1. This doesn’t help with the OF logjam

2. The LHH MI need is still unfulfilled

There is no logjam in the OF. Adam Duvall will be traded most likely. After this season, Duvall is gone and there will be big questions on how to fill all three OF positions if you move Verdugo.

Would Sox be ok with:

DH Yoshida

LF Duran

CF Rafaela

RF Abreu/Refsnyder

Sounds unnecessarily patchwork to me.

It's not that I hate your idea, it's just that Verdugo's trade value is higher than what the Sox receive in the trade, even per BTV standards. They'd need to receive an additional arm or prospect for the trade to work out.

Last I checked it was close.

Verdugo was $13.2mill. Blackburn was $10.3mill. Kemp was $1.5mill. That left $1.4mill under. Certainly getting a $1-2mill prospect as well is preferable, but there are so many players on every team in that range I usually just stop at the key players and acknowledge any small additions to balance it out…

I think they keep Duvall and give that OF a shot in 2024. Not like any player acquired for 2 months of Duvall is likely to significantly enhance the farm system…

No, it'd be a low level guy, which is fine to me.

Verdugo is 15.3 currently.

Apparently I was mixing him up with Rafaela.

At $15.3, the Sox are about $3.5mill short and should get another prospect in the $2-4mill surplus value range. Not likely to come from Oakland…

Do you think Bloom can pull the trigger on making a trade to just improve the 2023 team, and do you think he will? If he doesn’t improve this team for this year, for a better chance to make the Postseason I think you are going to have a bunch of pissed off players in that clubhouse starting with Raffy.

If they are dealing Verdugo, they are done with this season. They could platoon Abreu/Refsnyder in RF. Duran in CF. Yoshida in LF.

You could be right, but I think Duvall could play RF, Duran CF, and Yoshida LF with Refsnyder in reserve.

Right now the three best bats on the whole team belong to Duran (OPS .873), Duvall (.872), and Yoshida (.858).

This year Dugo has been our best defensive outfielder and therefore valuable, but his bat is lagging, plus he has trade value.

I presume he and the club discussed the situation during the negotiations.

Bloom certainly discussed it with fans at Winter Weekend, when he said "you know what's coming" from the farm, so that Raffy was worth making "that bet" (paying) to soon be surrounded with talent.

Chaim didn't specify what talent he was talking about, so who knows -- the Sox may soon bring up some good painters, yodelers or coders.

This just in from JP Morosi: "Sources say buyers include LAD, BAL, HOU, SFG, TBR, ARI, CIN, MIA, PHI, ATL." Does that mean the others are sellers? So far?

Did Raffy sign a one year deal or a long term extension? If Bloom's plan is to build for the long term, wouldn't this be in Raffy's best interest? Maybe not some cantankerous viewers!

Verdugo's wRC+ is 108. That's higher than either of the prior two years. I think that's about as good as you're going to get with his bat in Fenway.

Bloom could care less if any player is pissed about who the Red Sox trade away or trade for. That's Cora's job to deal with.

He sent Eddie Romero Jr there this year to help out with the player communication at the deadline. Therefore, he cares slightly more than he did last year.

I think Raffy, and every other player in that clubhouse are only playing right now 2023, and not worrying

about 2024, and beyond, which is what they should be doing. Raffy has already came out, and says the Red Sox need pitching. He was talking about this year, and that’s what they are playing for. What the players in that clubhouse think, and are playing for is what’s most important, and in the mom in their best interest.

That I agree with on Bloom, but I think Cora feels the same way as the players, and don’t want to give up on a season when they have a chance to get into the postseason, which I believe is a lot better chance than last year. Worry about what may happen in the future, and which may never come is not always the best plan, or outcome.

I once had a friend who worked for a garage door franchise. When times got tough, they sent him to their various outlets to tell all the colleagues he had built working relationships with that they were now fired.

It really stressed him out, being the bringer of bad news. When he finished going to all the places, they fired him.

The Sox are a good team but not good enough to get to the World Series, IMO. I would trade Duval, Verdugo and Paxton for as much as I could get.

But if they get to the Wild Card and get blown out, surely that's a successful season?!?!?

They may accomplish that while still trading those 3 guys.

Well Chaim is sure leaving it to the last minute that's for sure. Both the Jays and Rays have made solid pitching upgrades.
Chaim looking for the leftovers just like the previous trade deadlines.

Last year, definitely. But Schwarber was certainly a big add in 2021…

Just in: "Per MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi, the Orioles, Reds, Dodgers, Astros, Giants, D-backs, Marlins, Phillies and Braves are in the market for starting pitching."

Per talksox: behind the open-air market, the Red Sox are scouring an alley for openers.
