Next year for Opening Day it could be:

C Wong

1B Casas

2B Story

3B Devers

SS Chang

RF Verdugo

CF Rafaela

LF Duran

DH Yoshida

Defensively, that's a much better unit.

I'm not against this, but I think they get a stop-gap SS/2B type and stop-gap outfielder (either starter or 4th type depending on Turner). That's what I think they do, I think Rafaella and Mayer could round that lineup out by mid year.

The only prospects I wouldn't trade are Bleis, Anthony and Mayer. In the right trade, all the other prospects could be dealt.

I think that has some validity.

I agree that they should get a stopgap SS for 2/3's of the year before Mayer is potentially called up.

I’m going with my crazier yet BTV-approved deadline predictions

LHP Brandon Walter, INF Enmanuel Valdez, and 1b Blaze Jordan to Oakland for RHP Paul Blackburn. I’m sticking with Blackburn. No idea why. (Two 40 man players might not be on the Oakland Wish List, but both could also step in today.)

RHP Ryan Fernandez to KC for 2b/SS/SB machine Nicky Lopez. He does fit the need for a “left-handed hitting middle infielder”. But if we’re being honest, his focus is more on the “left-handed” portion as opposed to the “hitting. I’m basing Fernandez on the acceptable target over dozens of other possibilities because KC did take Fernandez-clone Jacob Wallace this off-season, so I’m operating on the assumption it’s a profile they like. Hey I got nothing else here…

I'm fine with those two trades. First trade seems like a lot, but I'm not a big fan of the guys listed.

Story will be at SS. If Chang is in the Red Sox starting lineup for 2024 Bloom is not doing his job well over the winter. Chang on the bench as the utility IF'er, maybe ok, but even then there should be better options. After all, Kike will be a free agent this winter !

Well you can't really get a player for 2/3 of a year...I get what you're saying though. If Mayer needs a little extra time then so be it, if he's ready problems like that can work themselves out. Said player could be needed at another position due to injury and if all is well you can trade him.

This is why I wouldn't have been opposed to getting someone on a 1.5 year deal this deadline. Ahmed Rosario was the name I brought up in the past.

If he's just putting more effort into the starting rotation, I'm fine with it.

To me Mayer is the only can't touch. Bleis, Anthony and the others are excellent - but Mayer being at AA just speaks to him having more big league probability. But this is all "it has to be the right deal", which means very good players with some substantial team control.

Outside of the box trade

Go with Yoshida, Duran and Duval.

Verdugo is maxed out.

Trade him for a pitcher. I bet the Yankees would want him.

Per BTV numbers:

Dylan Cease

for

Houck

Yorke

Walter

ERC

I’d do this based on the years of control on Cease.

In their last sell off, Oakland did seem to prefer quantity over quality…

I could learn to love that unit. but there's gotta be an argument for trying Rafaela at shorstop, at least to give it a chance to fail, especially because you have the luxury of a guy like Chang as a late inning defensive replacement

Agreed. We could have Ref/Yoshida in LF, EValdez or ?/Yoshida DH and Duran in CF.

I’m not sure when Sox brass will deem Rafaela ML ready.

Well the glove is ready now, the bat may never be ready. Hopefully he can at least be a .700 OPS guy.

Per the White Sox, Cease and Luis Robert are untouchable…

I’m with you, but I also trust the Sox to judge when the time is right.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rafaela hits well right out if the gate. Don’t ask me why, but my gut says he’ll do well all around.

Lance Lynn and infamous Joe Kelly to the Dodgers for Trayce Thompson and 2 minor league pitchers. Dodgers making moves to keep on top of the NL West

One could argue adding 2 negative value (BTV anyway) players is not improving.

Kendall Graveman to Houston.

There may be no worthwhile White Sox players left by August 1!!

Historically, the Sox have not wanted a .700 OPS guy in CF.

Lol!

They even keep playing Duran in LF, when Duvall plays.

That's because the OPS standard for LF is .900, which Duran comes closer to.

Maybe if Duvall heats up they’ll move him to LF more often.

Lol
