Jays have bigger needs than SP. They need a RH bat, then another BP arm and then maybe another SP. They do have Rhyu coming back very soon
The Jays tried hard to re-sign him and reportedly interested in trading for him, now. You'd think they'd know if being a "headcase" is an issue.

It sounds like Dodgers would like a reunion with Kike. I’d just give him away for anything

Kike’s bat has looked so weak for 1.5 years. He still has value on D in CF and at 2B, but yes, just get a bag of used balls, free up some lux tax dollars to allow us to trade for costly pitching and stay under the line.

It would be addition by subtraction to get rid of Kike and if we can save so salary against the cap, then we may be able to afford a starter who can help us. Picking up another Kluber would be a mistake. If we truly expect to make the playoffs, we desperately need starting pitching.

there has been a lot of speculation that Kiké is somehow "Cora's boy". same with JBJ. i truly wonder how much input Cora might have had in Bloom extending/trading for either of them. i'm guessing very little, if any. but, if so, i'm hoping Bloom ignores him from now on.

Currently they are using James Outman in CF. He was a ROY shoe-in in April, but his .646 OPS since May 1 should open the door for the massive defensive upgrade Kike would give them in CF…

I think fans often lock on the these kind of preferences when a manager repeatedly makes a move they don’t like or understand. Sometimes there are other reasons. Not sure why alike kept playing shortstop beyond the lack of obvious other options on the MLB roster. (In no way is Cora not giving input there, by the way.)

It’s like how fans think a HM is “obsessed” with any player MLBTR. links them to twice. Sometimes it might be as simple as “they already reviewed his contract,” which is an essential first step in any trade…

Send LAD Arroyo and they can use Betts in CF.

I’d prefer the Sox kept Arroyo and sent Kike…

Isn’t jd on a one year deal with the dodgers?

They’re not trading him and the Sox aren’t re-acquiring him…

The dodgers farm is stacked to the max!

Their number 15 prospect would probably be number 5 in our system!!!

Maybe we throw them hernandez and they send us a non top 20 prospect

Fangraphs lists their #15 prospect as Jacob Amaya, but he was dealt to Miami before the season for Miguel Rojas. Their new #15 prospect becomes Nick Frasso, whose FV of 40+ would earn him a rank between 14 and 17 in the Sox rankings on Fangraphs.

So not buying that one …

The Dodgers got Chris Taylor back. Trayce Thompson is rehabbing. They also have Jonny Deluca also in the outfield (his defense is terrific). JD has a hammy injury, not sure if serious.

As for us, the Red Sox have played far better than what I thought they would (eating some crow).

Story hit a homer in his first game at Portland, but he drew the collar yesterday. He had a single and a walk and committed an error in today's combined no hitter. He was pinch run for later in game (not sure what that was about). I wish the team would not do the forearm bash as Story did on that homer (Kiki dislocated Bellinger's shoulder in game 7 of the NLCS after Bellinger hit what would later be the game winning homer, it's taken two plus years to recover).

Hopefully McGuire is ready in two weeks.

Has McGuire even started rehabbing?

If people keep repeating stuff enough, maybe it'll be true though!

Red Sox infielder Pablo Reyes has been on the injured list for just over a month due to an abdominal strain, and most of that time has been spent on a rehab assignment. That rehab assignment is set to expire today, meaning the club will be forced to either roster or DFA Reyes, who is out of options, by the start of tomorrow’s game. That will create a logjam of middle infielders who can’t be optioned on the roster, with Enrique Hernandez, Yu Chang, and Christian Arroyo all also fitting that description.

While this logjam would seemingly create a situation where the Red Sox must trade or DFA a player in that group, MLB.com’s Ian Browne indicated yesterday that Arroyo is dealing with a jammed right thumb. If Arroyo, who hasn’t played since July 18, were to require a trip to the 10-day injured list, that would kick the can down the road for Boston until after the trade deadline on August 1, allowing them to keep all four players in the organization for longer and preserve leverage in trade negotiations.

People who say our farm sucks or is overrated, may not be experts on other farm systems.

We'd still need to make room on the 40, but that is not difficult with Ort still on it.

I'd IL Arroyo, then trade Kike.

Sox have a top 10 farm.

Our farm has been on fire in the last 2 years. Wong, Casas, Crawford, Bello, Duran all showing up and becoming key players to the team. Plenty of lesser lights like Chang and Murphy helping to add depth and robustness to our roster too. Chris Murphy is legit one of the best young long relievers I've seen in years and may wind up in a starting role if he continues to stretch out as effectively as he has. Or alternatively may graduate to throwing higher leverage innings. All depends on what the Red Sox see his future as and how the league responds when it's seen him a few times. I'd b e intrigued to see if that severe reverse split of his holds up.

It's no coincidence we sucked from 2019-2022, when we got nobody from the farm.

Yu Chang really wasn't part of the farm. He was claimed off of waivers (4 MLB teams in 2022). He's only appeared in 8 games in the Sox minor league system, but all on rehab in 2023.

Starts tomorrow in Worcester. As understand it, he injured himself simply swinging the bat. If so, one wonders how he compensates for that in the future. Hit from the right side? Choke up on the bat? Swing very slowly and carefully?

@Sean_McAdam

Red Sox announce they have re-instated Pablo Reyes from the IL and optioned pitchers Brandon Walter and Justin Garza to Worcester.

Meh. The 2019 team had basically the same players as the 2018 team, which was the best Sox team ever: Sale, Price, ERod, Porcello, Eovaldi, Mookie, Bogey, JDM, Devers, Beni, JBJ, Vazquez, Leon, Holt, Moreland, et al. But no Kimbrel.

To me 2020 was a nonseason.

And 2021 wasn't half bad: 92 wins, wild card win over the Yankees, ALDS over the 100 win Rays, and getting a 2-1 lead in games before losing 3 straight in the ALCS to Houston.

2022 sucked big time.

Still, a Bello and Duran might have turned the 2019 team into a contender.

The 2019 team was a great team on paper to start the season. It's simply untrue that the team sucked because of a lack of farm infusion.
