Outside of 1 bad outing I think Wink has been the most effective BP guy this year, and would have been the best choice at that place in time down 1-0 in only the 5th inning.

Everybody looks better if you take out their worst outing of the season.

Moral victory still shows up in the loss column. Yes getting Diaz into the game may help the next two games, but by Cora not going to Wink down only 1-0 may have been a whole different ballgame that Diaz might not of had a save situation. Bad bad managing by Cora tonight, which ended up in a loss.

Cora says basic problem was Bello only going 4 innings. So he agrees with you.

What I'm trying to say is, can you please state your opinion in a manner that doesn't turn this place into a warzone? Please and thank you.

Dude. You are a major part of the problem. Please stop,

Re: Cora's managing

As Sox fan named Hugh mentioned in another thread....do we even hace this conversation if someone other than Kiké is playing SS?

It's a toss-up whether that's a Cora problem or a Bloom problem. Bloom could have signed an actual shortstop but he decided that Kike would suffice there.

Upon double checking, there's no natural SS on this roster, so yeah, that's definitely a Bloom problem.

It’s kind of like last year with Arroyo trying to play RF, and Franchy Strange Glove playing 1B.

Yes, it does seem symptomatic of Bloom's questionable "try anything" approach to defense.

He brought in Mondesi, although clearly underestimated his medicals, and brought back Yu Chang. Hoy Park was brought in twice as well, although not held on to.

Chang proved more than sufficient on defense, but when Kike is the fourth stringer. How many other teams are using their fourth option anywhere?

Casas one day will hit .200, you watch.

I remember you saying something similar about Daniel Nava once ;)

Casas OPS in May is over .860. Don’t be fooled by his April…

Wasn't that the Dalbec early story, too?

That being said, Casas has a better skill set than Dalbec ever did, including good defense.

One is on the IL and making $23.3M x 6. Another is at least a year away and was just promoted to AA.

Chang was a stop gap addition, and he's on the IL, too.

Mondesi was a cluster addition who may never be ready to play.

He has 4 SSs, but none can play, today.

Kike was not supposed to be this bad, but man, he sure has been!

Many of us wanted us to sign Andrus or trade for one of the SSs that were traded over the winter, seemingly for peanuts, but I guess Sox brass thought Kike/Chang could carry until Mondesi/Story returned.

It was a big swing and miss.

Good point, but I think Kike was option #3 (ahead of Chang) to start the season, with Story & Mondesi on the IL and #1 and #2. He played his way into #4 as Chang passed him, then got hurt.

How bad is Hamilton to not be able to play SS better than Kike?

Difference being that Kiké had played 600 innings at SS prior to 2023. He's never been this bad there before.

Chang was never in front of Kiké and neither was Mondesi. Kiké is the backup to Story, but that's about it.

They should've buttressed the SS position. They love versatility, but SS is a position that requires a very specific skillset. A good 2B can have great range with a below average arm, a good 3B can have below average range if he has a strong arm, but a SS needs both range and arm. In my opinion, Kiké ain't it.

RE: Kiké at SS.

He ranks 17th/35 in qualified SS arm strength, (Xander is 33rd, food for thought), and 38th/40 in Outs Above Average (Xander is #1 in that category, also food for thought). So in aggregate, Kiké is bad, and he should feel bad.

Chang had ousted Kike at SS before he got hurt, and had shored up the D there too.

He’s never played as often, or this many games at SS before. The more you play the more it shows how good you are.

Well said. 8 of the 9 runs last night were earned. We could argue about whether that bad throw by Kike cost a GIDP and more than one run, but, frankly, right now the Sox are weak up the middle in turning double plays because both are slow on the toss, the turn, and the throw to 1B.

The Sox system has a veritable mountain of SS's, including the Sox #1 pick (4th overall) in 2021 who just moved up to AA.

Chang passed Kike, this year, until he was injured, but he did not start the year ahead of him.

From April 12 to April 24, he started at SS 11 times.

That doesn’t help now though, and now at the moment is the most important.

....that can't play in the MLB right now, and we have Kiké throwing away games at SS.
