If he's on the MLB roster, it's as a bench bat or due to an injury.

I just think if they really want to maximize Dalbec's "utility" that there are other ways to do it. And yes, we are talking about it because half of the players are at the WBC and it's ST. Not much else to talk about right now. There's still a chance Dalbec isn't on the 40 man roster at the end of March.

If they carry 5 OF with Tapia, and the Ref Man that would leave the IF 1 less spot, which could leave Bobby D out, and Chang in.

If they carry a 5th OF, it's Alfaro.

I do think playing him in LF a few games makes more sense than SS, but if we ever need him at SS in an emergency, it gods he got one game in.

(If he does end up at SS, we may wish he played more.)

Alfaro is in. Wong is out.

Wong is catching bullpens and doing agility training already. He's probably ready for Opening Day.

What would we do with Willie McGee?

LOL. I just Lou Gorman'd myself.

I get the Reese's candy bar. If you read it, there's an apostrophe. The candy bar is his. I didn't know that. Next time your eating a Reese's and some guy named Reese comes up to you and says let me have that. You better give it to him. I'm sorry Reese, I didn't think I would ever run into you.

@jcmccaffrey

The season starts two weeks from today and it’s crunch time for non-roster invitees.

Rob Refsnyder and John Schreiber were NRIs last spring and made the most of their opportunities.

Raimel Tapia - with a 1.244 OPS - is trying to do the same this spring.

“We talk about disruptors and guys that can make an impact on the bases and going first-to-third, dirtball reads, great reads out of the box. He plays with his hair on fire.”

Tapia’s aggressiveness on the bases is another element the Red Sox like

Reese had the assist on the final out of (arguably) the biggest win in franchise history.

Like I predicted a few weeks ago that Alfaro would beat out Wong injured, or not. We’ll see who’s right.

All he said was Wong will probably be ready.

I know what he said. I’m just saying to me if Wong hadn’t gotten injured he still would have gotten beaten out by Alfaro, so to me Wong being ready to open the season only means something for Worcester.

Alfaro will be back in ST soon. Colombia just lost in the WBC and they were relegated for the next WBC tournament because they came in last in Pool C.

I’m really liking what I see from McGuire. He looks like a keeper.

To think we dumped Diekman and his salary for him makes the move look even better.

Tapia is certainly making a strong case to make the team. It’s nice so many bubble players have options.

Too bad Alfaro’s catching skills are reportedly bad.

Chang looks to be the IF bench guy.

Dalbec is hitting well, but usually has poor Aprils and Mays, so he could be tge odd man out.

With so many pitchers rehabbing, it’s hard to project the 13.

Whitlock - Mills sent down

Bello - Kelly sent down

Paxton - Crawford sent down

Looks good, and the only question I have is if Whitlock gets 2-3 more appearances in would he start the season with the Sox, but in the pen.

He has a 6.33 CERA with the Red Sox. I'd like to see some improvement in that before I get too excited. ;)

Originally, I thought he was going to piggyback with Paxton. Maybe they'll just piggyback him with Houck or Crawford? IDK. I think the long term goal is to get him to start once he's ready.

Seriously. Maybe they should give the Rangers a call since Sandy Leon CERTIFIED CERA GOD has a 872 OPS this spring.

@PeteAbe

It’s only spring training, all the usual disclaimers apply. But Chris Sale is as ebullient about baseball as he been for a long time. Even a five-inning sim game in an empty ballpark had him smiling.

Shouldn't he be mad about not being the Opening Day Starter and just being a benchwarmer!?!?! I guess he's not a true competitor anymore! We can just call him Mr Happy To Be There.

Pinkass. No wonder Cora gave the ball to Kutthroat Kluber, who once drilled Nunez for swinging too hard -- imagine the audacity of a batter trying to hit a pitch as hard as he can...

Hitters are wusses. The last time a guy chucked his bat at a pitcher for pitching too hard (at his ankle) was 50 years ago, and Campy Campaneris got both legs suspended for it... of course, since it was the playoffs, they let him serve the suspension at the start of '73.

Wouldn’t two time Cy Young winner Kluber - who didn’t miss last year - have equal claim or better to the opening day starter role?

I could see Sale having a beef if he was behind Crawford or Whitlock or Pivetta. But Kluber does have one helluva resume of his own…

Entirely possible Dalbec goes to Worcester and continues his SS/2b/OF play into the regular season. Not like Goodrum has laid an unchallenged claim to the AAA SS role…

Career fWAR:

Sale 45.4

Kluber 39.1

WS Rings:

Sale 1

Kluber 0

Jerseys Torn:

Sale 1

Kluber 0

Leader in W, SV, K: Sale

The only thing that Kluber is better is in wearing high socks.

Goodrum has been so bad that he's maybe not even likely to get AAA playing time. Sad!
