There is a lot of rumors flying about the Deshaun Watson of baseball, accused rapist and multi sexual assaulter Trevor Bauer. He has been reinstated and there is rumors dodgers don’t want him. If he hits free agency and can be signed for an under the market value, would you be okay with Red Sox signing him and would you be morally okay rooting for, if it helped the team?

Of course, nobody wants guys like this on our roster, but many players have things in their past that they regret or are despicable. My guess is, many are never known to the public.

My first reaction to this question was "NO! Hell No!"

I'm not so sure I'd be very upset, if the guy paid his price and gets another chance.

Not even if he was free.

$720K is "free."

I'm not saying I want him on my team, but someone will, and everyone deserves forgiveness, if they are truly sorry for what the did and are honestly seeking to change.

Just my opinion. I'm not sure if he deserving of forgiveness.

No, and he’ll no on Bauer.

I’d sign him.

And then put him in the lifeboat in the middle of the Atlantic with no food or fresh water but plenty of chum…

I don’t have to like him.

The thing about Bauer is - he wasn’t all that likable even before all the SA allegations…

The Los Angeles Dodgers designated Trevor Bauer for assignment and have seven days to trade Bauer before the righthander is released on waivers:

The Dodgers will likely trade Trevor Bauer for the best offer. Three teams might be willing to pay Bauer $5 million this year if the Dodgers pay the balance. The bidding could go up from there.

If more than one team would be willing to claim Bauer off waivers, at least one team should be likely to pay part of Bauer's 2023 salary to prevent the competition if the righthander goes to waivers. And the Dodgers should be open to recouping a portion of their sunken cost.

The team that acquires him might be getting a bargain. They might also be getting a circus from hell. Anyone who has done the things Bauer has done has plenty of potential to do more stupid and damaging stuff. The man has some serious issues. Who knows how he would handle it if he doesn't pitch up to his ability and fans and media are heaping abuse on him? My guess is "not well".

You also have to keep in mind that a lot of players wouldn't want him on their team, which could lead to some crap in itself.

Right from virtually Day One of the allegations the Dodgers seem to have decided he would never play for them again, no matter how much of a financial loss they had to absorb. That says a lot.

IMO this is the biggest fear. It's not a matter of how you or I would receive him, it's how the players would receive him and the disruption having him might cause. Often times one player can disrupt an entire team. See: Bell, Albert (Joey).

My guess is the Dodgers polled some of their players, before making this choice. Maybe any team thinking of adding him to their roster would do the same.

Ant GM knows adding him would create a big distraction and some intense criticism from many fans, the media and opposing teams' fans. They better think their team can handle it or feel desperate enough to "try anything" to get significantly better "on paper."

I doubt the Sox feel they are in a position to "handle" the storm on this one- beyond the ethics and moral aspects of the choice.

To me, it's not as easy a choice as it may be for others. I believe people who are contrite and genuinely trying to better themselves deserve a second chance and a path to forgiveness, but this is a real tough one. It's hard to forgive and move on from the things he did- not just to one person, apparently.

I'm not opposed to Bauer getting another chance either. I just think it's a bad risk especially for a team like the Red Sox that is already under constant scrutiny for every little thing they do.

Agreed, and that is why I said...

I'd certainly ask the players before considering adding him.

I think Bauer and Mcquire will make a great battery, oops, sorry, I meant only if they can pull off a , oops sorry. You know, it's really difficult to talk about these two.

McGuire's situation is way different than Bauer's. Not even close.

As someone who worked with a sexual predator “who was good at his job”, I don’t want this guy anywhere near the Red Sox. Having someone like Trevor Bauer around kills morale and the way he defended what he did to that women by saying “I didn’t hit her that hard” and “I didn’t hit her that many times” is disgusting. I don’t care if he pitches like prime Pedro, he is not the guy I want to root for. I hope he never pitches another game.

Or better yet, I hope he signs with Yankees and has worst year of his life, gets rocked in every stadium similar to Deshaun Watson for Browns, and gets called a rapist, gets cheap shot by opposing players, and has to deal with trash being thrown at him and deal with all the chants of “no means no” “you’re a rapist” and everything Deshaun has dealt with this season while he’s struggled

But they are both 'great values' to your fantasy team or your real one, no? As are players like Pham. Much better 'value' than, say, Vaz or Benintendi or Betts.

This comparison makes no sense. I don’t want to defend McGuire but it was a victimless crime and he’s not even that good. He’s been a backup catcher his whole career and him masturbating didn’t hinder or advance his career.

Trevor Bauers situation completely hindered his career. He beat and raped an unconscious women and received multiple years of suspension and what he did is so heinous that dodgers are willing to eat his contract to have him play for another team (if he plays again).
