Suzuki would have been a much better signing. Much more complete player. 4.7 fWAR in 230 MLB games.

Terrible decision-making by Bloom.

Let’s remember that Bloom went for JBJ instead. Now that was a terrible decision.

Very bad move. Didn’t make sense to anyone.

Please pardon my disgust with Bloom's roster construction and allocations of apparently limited funds.

You can be disgusted without having to put other posters down.

Also not necessarily how it went down.

I think it was Story instead of Suzuki…

Agreed, but I've also been taking flak for my criticism of Yoshida.

Well, as the old saying goes, your unfounded speculation is as good as mine.

Home/road splits:

Home 308/366/487 853 OPS

Road 275/324/431 755 OPS

Like many hitters, he has gotten a bump from Fenway. On the road, totally mediocre.

I'm just not sure why you have grabbed onto this flag to waive.

Why not? He was our big signing this year. He has a 0.7 fWAR. He was signed as a get-on-base guy but pitchers adjusted to him and now he's striking out much more and walking much less. Why shouldn't I be picking on a bad signing? I don't get it.

He deserves criticism, for sure, but to me, you have been going overboard.

He's still at .801, which isn't awful. He's .002 behind Duran for 3rd in team OBP, and he has 160 more PAs than Duran. His OBP is better than Devers, who is about to make $30M a year x 10. He has a better OBP than Dugo. Only Casas and Turner have over 365 PAs and a better OBP than he does.

Sure, .344 is not great. I expected .374 or better, but it's his first year in MLB and in a new country and culture. I am very concerned this will be a bad signing, as he will likely have to earn his money as a DH, but it just seems like overkill, to me. A bit relentless.

Again, he does deserve criticism and scrutiny. He's been in a pretty long slump, now. A couple months ago, some were praising the signing. Maybe, it's all about timing. Someday, we may be okay or happy with the signing, again... or not.

What you're missing is that my complaints are directed against Bloom, for spending money that could have gone toward pitching, on an expensive DH who is being stuck in left field and contributing to our lousy defense. It pisses me off that our budget was so restricted, and it pisses me off more that we used such a big chunk of it this way.

We both agree on that.

It's like when we spent on Pablito and HRam instead of Scherzer, and waited until later to get pitching (Price.)

He's 6th on the team in OPS. Whoopee.

Yes. You brought up getting him for OBP, and although he has fallen way short of what we expected or hoped for, he's still pretty high on the tema list there. (3rd)

Some of us who are on the Early Nimmo Train last off-season wanted to see a return to OBP hitters. Back before Nimmo was earning Manny Ramirez money.

Yoshida started off that way, which was good…

With the money Nimmo got, I'd still take Yoshida.

I would take neither. Nimmo is the better player and it's not close but I don't like that contract.

I'd take Nimmo, too, but on the budgets we seem to be on, having Nimmo, instead of Yoshi would mean fewer other signings.

It's like Nimmo vs Yoshida + Duvall every other year.

We need to move him to dh next year. Maybe occasionally in left field.

Our outfield should duran-Rafeala-abreau and refsyndyder

Sign a couple AAAA guys and stick them in Worcester

So, trade Dugo?

So, trade Dugo?

Trade Duran. Duran’s five remaining years of control greatly trump Verdugo’s one.

Trading Verdugo at this point isn’t about fixing the pitching staff; it’s just hoping to top the draft pick compensation (if any exists)…

With the YEARS Nimmo got, I’d take Yoshida.

Eight years for an outfielder who had only tipped 92 games twice in his career (although his 55 games in 2020 did suggest he had a chance that year as well)…

Yes, I think he is a clubhouse cancer

Losing our 2 best, and really only significant RH'd bats in JT and Duvall, does make adding a RH'd bat to CF or RF make sense. We could even bring Duvall back to play mostly RF and be insurance against a Rafaela struggle in CF. I can see Dugo being traded.

What Dugo brings back in trade is not going to be ground-shaking, unless part of a larger package. If somehow we can get a solid SP'er for Dugo and some prospects not named Mayer, Anthony or Teel, I think we have to pull the trigger. One problem is a team wanting Dugo's 1 year deal is probably not looking to add prospects while giving up a solid SP'er. Maybe 3 teams would be needed:

Dugo to team A

Prospects from team A and from the Sox to team B

Team B sends a solid SP'er to the Sox

I'm not talking an ace, here, unless top prospect(s) are involved.
