Nothing. It's just that I've been harping on Masa's fWAR, and that's one of the reasons it's only 1.0. To me it's total value that matters.

He's better than Benintendi at least.

Does his 1.4 bWAR make you feel better?

Not enough to move the needle. :)

It's not the worst signing anyone has ever made, that's for sure. But it doesn't look like a major success considering the money and the hype.

A month ago, it looked a lot better. Maybe a month from now, the needle will move back to the plus side.

not me. that puts him about #158 in the league. he's either underperforming or vastly overpaid. maybe other GMs were correct when they said Bloom overpaid.

Yes, maybe.

We happen to be discussing him at his lowest point of the season, not counting the first week or two.

he's a good contact hitter. i had no idea his D was so bad.

He has pretty much been discussed all season GOshida when he he’s been spraying the ball all around, and up to the top of BA, and NOshida when he pounds ping pong serves to the IF.

Yes, indeed, but not from you. You wait in the shadows.

He hits the ball on the ground a lot and he's not fast. As a result he's grounded into a whopping 15 DP's.

He was built for the mid-80's Cardinals lineup in Busch Stadium. He would have won a batting title there.

He’s not much defensively, but he was absolutely the type of hitter the Sox needed.

Before the off-season, I wanted the Sox to go after a high OBP count worker, specifically Brandon Nimmo. Of course, that was before Nimmo was offered Manny Ramirez money.

Yoshida does have a similar offensive skill set. His glove, however, is far behind Nimmo’s…

Oh so now I wait in the shadows. That’s funny, because I’ve been saying NOshida, and GOshida all year long. Just like I said Story Land is open, and Story Land is closed all of last year. If he’s good I say it, and if he’s bad I say it. Day by day.

Didn’t you pine for Gallo too?

Okay. I guess I'm making it all up about you hardly showing your face, when we win, then make dozens of posts right after a loss, a losing streak or a trade of Kike.

I’ve already explained why i don’t as you say show up when the Red Sox win. I’m not a cheerleader, and Pom Pom waver. Nothing wrong with being that, and nothing wrong with not. To me it means more with staying with a team to the end like last year than bailing. Different strokes for different folks.

Yes. He is a very talented defensive RF. Minnesota already had gifted defensive RF and CF types, so they played the second best defensive corner outfield in all of MLB at 1b and DH.

Duvall is a good defender, but Gallo is just better out there. I see no problem with wanting OF defense…

You mean like Mookie, JBJ, and Beny?

Beni was not really a plus by the last 2-3 years on the Sox and after he left.

He was good enough though to make that memorable catch in the 2018 ALCS in Houston.

Yes, that was before his last 2 years with the Sox and after he left.

That was a hell of a play!

One great play doesn’t make him a great defensive player…

No, but being voted the best leftfielder in the league one year, and a finalist in another, means he's pretty good -- at least compared to his peers.

By the same voters who voted GGs to players who didn't even play 80+ games at the position they won at?

Gold Glove Awards have been presented for 65 years, so maybe some of the managers and coaches who voted in the beginning are retired by now.

For the past decade, Gold Glove candidates have either qualified or were nominated to ballots in part by a sabermetric Defensive Index developed by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

Benintendi has played leftfield in the majors for eight years.

Fair enough.

He was good with the Sox prior to 2019.

He did not finish in the top 12 on The Fielding Bible in '19 and '20.

Maybe they've gotten better at picking these award winners, but I stopped valuing them, long ago.
