It's amazing how this team refused to let Cora hold them down.

Boy, have you got that right. Even with a great 9th inning rally, there was hardly any reaction from the dugout. Just mopin and dopin. Worst morale and worst locker room I've seen in years. Of course, I've never actually seen a MLB locker room, let alone with the players in it ignoring their incompetent manager. But I can imagine what it looks like. Starters drinking beer during the late innings.

Good call

Actually, I'm glad he left because I think he's been the problem all along. It isn't bad juju in the locker room. It's all those bad internet vibes. Players are a lot more sensitive when we think.

And, did you see Cora laughing when we were down 3?

The nerve of that clown!

No, I did not expect the 9th inning rally. Yes, I though the Sox pitching stunk.

Yes, I was pretty pissed at the 3d base coach, but he assumed a decent throw. Just imagine Devers going just a tad closer to home, a good throw, a quick pealk at 3d base, and wham, Devers gets picked off. Might I also add that it sure looked like the Sox hitters had that closer on the ropes--which Refsnyder confirmed.

Devers got 2 doubles, Bogey two hits, and the Sox hitters overall had 13 hits including 4 doubles and a dinger for 9 runs.

Who needs pitching?

Dugo had 3 hits, including a dinger, but he's not popular enough here to be mentioned.

I like Dugo. He will continue to get better. He is on pace for 40 doubles.

Glad you asked.

I would start by holding team meetings before each game and reminding the players that it’s a 162 game season and that they are paid to played focused sound baseball until the end of the last game of the season and not embarrass themselves in front of the fans.

Next I would give a player one warning if they made a dumb mental error. If the player makes another dumb mental error he should be benched-pulled from the game if necessary to make an example of him. You won’t have to do it to everyone because they will get the message that you mean business. That use to happen in the game before the players became prima donnas. Second offense: a week on the bench. Third offense: some time on the IL.

Belichick employs similar tactics with his teams and they have been remarkably successful. You play the game the right way or you won’t be playing.

Hopefully that clears it up.

Like this approach

This team is like an illness. There was great college football games on and I still turned it on. At least they somehow pulled off that comeback.

The bullpen is still atrocious though

Pats have 16 games in which players get to roll their eyes during pre-game pep talk. Imagine how this would feel to a professional after 100 games.

Arroyo is hitting .330 over the last month. He has to be in the lineup.

Cora thinks these are like spring training games, and he has to play everyone. He doesn’t. Arroyo should be playing, or hitting somewhere as long as his bat is hot.

The Betts shadow.

(Not his fault.)

That’s a good part of it, but his play of late in the field, and on the bases has left something to be desired also.

Of course, nobody is going to say getting eight 1 WAR seasons from a player(s) equals one season of an 8 WAR by a traded star, but where should the line be drawn?

It's probably impossible to expect a 1 year of Betts and 3 years a half- Price (like my play on words, there?) deal to bring back someone similar to Betts, but here is the WAR tally:

Verdugo

bWAR: 2.1 (Short season), 2.2 + 0.9, so far + 2 years of control remaining

fWAR: 1.9, 2.0, 1.3

Downs:

bWAR: -0.7

fWAR: -0.3, so far

Wong:

bWAR: 0.1, -0.1

fWAR: 0.2, 0.0, so far

Betts:

bWAR: 3.6 (short season)

fWAR: 2.9 + a decent playoff performance

It hurts watching Betts do great with the Dodgers, but the trade was forced on Bloom, and the results are not as bad as many want to think it is. Plus, we still have 2 years of Dugo and 4-5 of Wong.

Pham has hit well, but Dugo needs to go back to LF next year. As long as Mookie stays healthy Mookie will stay great.

Agreed, but I still think this is the best OF, right now:

LF: Dugo

CF: Kike

RF: Refsnyder

Ref is hitting better vs RHPs than Pham. He kills lefties.

Pham can PH, be the 4th OF'er and maybe DH here and there. Ref is better, for now, anyway.

NFL now plays 17 regular season games, only 3 preseason. Fans were getting tired of paying full freight for 2 home preseason games of wannabes and wontbes, so the league called one of them a count-in-the -standings game
