Welcome back to Bigs, Bizarro. Your seat in the Sox pen is now solidified right next to Brasiers. Hope you get the souvenir ball after it hit the light tower frame

Devers has not showed me anything yet to give him a 300+ million contract.

His career numbers are comparable to Matt Olsen who was signed for 168/8. There is 2 years of age difference. Is that 2 years gap really good to give him over 300 MIL?

I'd actually argue that Olsen is a bit better.

I know they don't play the same position but let's be real, Devers is more than likely to be DH in his 30's. His defense is not that good.

It’s the job of the manager to get his team mentally ready for the game. It’s clear that this team hasn’t been focused for months. Yes, some of it is on the players too, but there has been too much brain dead baseball played for months.

I see this brought up a lot by you. So what should Cora do to prepare them mentally? Please enlighten us with whatever advice you would give Cora. For that matter, what would you do if you were in his position.

I'll ask again, do these relievers who cannot throw a strike know that in their bullpen warmup or does it come as a surprise to them?

Kelly has no clue.

Eck says you don’t always know. I’ll take his word for it.

Easy, watch moneyball mate lol

A stunningly good at bat by Arroyo in the 8th with 2 on, 1 out. Those were all good pitches, including the one he hit for a single.

Geez I'll be shocked if this team wins more than 70 wins this season.

Given the August trends, it is not out of the question to see a 79-83 endline. This Rangers series at home should be 3-1 outcome, but don't start with a loss and it will be easier to achieve

I love the movie's premise, but it gets that wrong. Howe was far more cooperative than painted. And GM's have no business in the locker room.

Yeah, sort of.

Regardless of outcome, i would let Franchy hit in lieu of Hernandez pinchhitting. It will take a 3 run HR to fix this game, for that I think Franchy has a better shot

Struck that loser out with an out of zone slider, as always. Thanks for not DP'ing Kike

It won't be easy, but with the expected winter spending budget Bloom will be handed, I'm not sure it needs to take years to get relevant. Were we relevant, last year?

Is this a doable winter plan?

Sign: Swanson, Nimmo, Kike, Abreu, Fulmer & Rogers.

QO: Wacha

Trade: Bello, Rafaela, Yorke, Dalbec & RHern for Lopez, Luzardo & Stallings

We'd be relevant in a few months:

1. Swanson SS

2. Nimmo RF

3. Story 2B

4. Devers 3B

5. Abreu 1B

6. Kike CF

7. Verdugo LF

8. Hosmer/Refsnyder/Arroyo/EValdez/Cordero DH/Bench

9. Stallings/McGuire C

SP1 Lopez

SP2 Sale/Paxton

SP3 Wacha

SP4 Luzardo

SP5 Pivetta

Closer Houck

RP2 Whitlock

RP3 Rogers

RP4 Schreiber

RP5 Fulmer

RP6 Taylor

RP7 Barnes

RP8 Crawford/German/Others

I don’t think I would trade Bello yet. If he can develop a good third pitch he might become a decent SP.

A 6 pitcher very likely loss (8-5) and 3 of the relievers gave up 6 runs directly or letting the inherited runners score. All to a 58-71 team. That's how they stay 6 under .500 and 4 under at home.

Pending an amazing comeback effort, old time Sox action

Glad you asked.

I would start by holding team meetings before each game and reminding the players that it’s a 162 game season and that they are paid to played focused sound baseball until the end of the last game of the season and not embarrass themselves in front of the fans.

Next I would give a player one warning if they made a dumb mental error. If the player makes another dumb mental error he should be benched-pulled from the game if necessary to make an example of him. You won’t have to do it to everyone because they will get the message that you mean business. That use to happen in the game before the players became prima donnas. Second offense: a week on the bench. Third offense: some time on the IL.

Belichick employs similar tactics with his teams and they have been remarkably successful. You play the game the right way or you won’t be playing.

Hopefully that clears it up.

True, but Lopez already is proven, and Luzardo shows signs, too.

You gotta give to get. (I'd rather give Casas and Yorke, but I doubt that's enough.)

Sounds good on paper, but it won't work.

Illinois asked me what I would do. I outlined my plan. There’s no reason it shouldn’t work.

Regardless, the status quo certainly isn’t working
