If Bloom had made a trade for Drury, there might actually be some optimism for the Red Sox around here. PS All it cost the Padres was Acosta, a SS prospect who isn't even in Baseball Prospectus top 100.

Instead his 'best' move is probably obtaining Hosmer, whom San Diego was desperate to get rid of, to marginally improve our pathetic 1B position. But for what little good that move made, Bloom counteracts by dealing away our starting catcher Christian Vazquez for prospects and a bag of chips.

Yup 'genius' at work here folks, all the critics of Chaim Bloom just need to be quiet and watch the Red Sox continue to sink in the cellar of the AL East!!

So, the genius GM, who built such a shity team, was only a Drury away from a chance at a ring?

LMAO!

I wasn't happy that Bloom traded VAZ and I wasn't happy that Bloom didn't trade JD. But could some of us give Pham, McGuire and Hosmer at least a couple of weeks to demonstrate whether they're a positive or negative addition to the SOX before we s*** all over the SOX GM?

I find it disappointing that a couple of posters here who don't share a certain poster's opinion and that certain poster has proven his love for the SOX over many years have decided instead to agree with the spew of a another poster, who is nothing but a troll. I also may not always agree with posters here who also love the SOX, but I sure as s*** wouldn't be inclined to agree with known trolls, who continue to haunt this board.

MoonSlop is right, and everyone who disagrees with him is wrong, or doesn’t get the point, or has comprehension issues. You should know that by now. He’s like the Great Oz. Pull the curtain back, and he’s nowhere’s near what he actually thinks he is.

Why do you insist on trying to provoke reactions from him? Posts like this are specifically meant to do so.

It won’t work. You do realize he no longer sees anything you post, right?

Misery loves company.

I know I used to seek to right wrongs (or perceived wrong), but over time, I realized it just feeds more and more from them.

I'm not telling anyone what to do, and it may ring hollow, since I fed the trolls for years, but I'm thinking, if we all ignore them, maybe they'll go away, or at least lessen their drivel.

Don't give trolls the attention they seek.

Who knows what motives posters have for chumming up with trolls. Maybe it helps them think of more names to call those they disagree with.

LOL!

We differ on Vaz, whom I haven't liked this year. But I agree it's OK for people to have different views. Like you, I would not have minded losing JDM, but maybe nothing much was offered for him. As it is, he conceivably could help the Sox the rest of the way and then seek greener pastures. Or even stay put for less money.

I don't consider Hosmer to be a big deal and am astounded this thread is now at 11 pages.

As for the larger view of waiting before condemning Bloom's moves, not many talksoxers can do that. And that's just the nature of opinion boards. We prefer to react right now, especially if we don't like something. I have done exactly that too many times to count.

One thing on JD. Had we traded him for a bag of balls, we'd have gotten under the tax line, which would make us much more likely to spend big, this winter or the following ones.

Maybe, some think this year saw us have a better chance at winning than they see us having in 2023 and 2024, and that opinion has merit, but I don't look at it that way. I see a team with very little chanc e to make it as far as we did last year, so I'm wanted to maximize our chances in 2023 and beyond.

I realize I am in a small minority, and Bloom/Henry had other factors involved with their choice than I did with my suggestions and ideas. I get it.

I had mentioned we might walk the line and be buyers and sellers. I suppose that's kind of what we did, but it still kind of surprised me.

You just love making a fool of yourself don't you? Nobody said the Red Sox would win a championship with Drury. But a move that actually IMPROVED the big league roster would have given us some hope that Bloom actually had half a CLUE on how to be a competent GM.

Obviously such ideas eluded him! Trading Good players for almost ZERO value, that's his real specialty. Such as giving away our starting catcher, Christian Vazquez for a bag of chips and a couple of prospects.

Or how about trading for a catcher in Reese McGuire with an OPS of .546 and whose only claim to fame is getting arrested for PUBLIC WANKING!!

BRAVO Bloom! We should all join you in your effusive praise for Bloom's buffoonery!

Correct, but from everything I have read on Twitter, the plan is for him to be the DH, as he is tonight.

OMG.!! I didn’t know it appeared on Twitter!!!

And who still uses Twitter?!

Well, at least you cited a source…

This is a little odd

Ok, maximum points awarded for the passion here.

But the Sox are a .500 last place team. Of all the potential acquisitions to spark optimism, you like the career utility infielder having the season of his life? I see Drury as a guy due to fall back to Earth anyway now.

Not that Hosmer excites me. The only good thing about Hosmer is he isn’t Franchy Cordero. But he’s just here to hold the door for Casas, and then Eric will get DFAd (with SD still paying his whole salary) and sign with KC to finish out his career.

I see this team as sort of breaking even this deadline. The step down from Vazquez to McGuire/Plawecki/Hernandez(?) is probably about the same as the step up from Cordero/Dalbec to Hosmer.

But then at some point, if the Sox are going to make up the necessary ground and leapfrog the necessary teams, it’s got to come from the players. And a lot of them have been underperforming this year…

So, trade away future hopes for futile hopes.

Good plan!

Good plan!

The key word here is future HOPE, and this is from someone who preached 1 game at a time, and gave daily wildcard updates during the FANTASY month of June. Hope doesn’t always lead to success.

There is no doubt there is plenty of underperforming to go around with all the injuries that have added up to the perfect storm. Vaz was one of the few who was actually performing. Hosmer is a upgrade from Franchy, and Bobby D, and it only took Bloom 100 games to do something.

I think you were basically right about 2022 - the team had a lot of luck with health and so on. Now, it was an excellent FA class and the Red Sox did get a piece of it ... now Story has not been very good (relative to the purchase price) and that has been a problem.

The team needed a lot of plausible maybes to come through (like 2014 and 2015 actually) and they largely haven't. Basically, the positions where most teams get production, the Red Sox have gotten basically nothing ... and the pitching injuries just exacerbated it.

I'm not talking about fanboy posters like yourself as I obviously don't follow them.

I mainly follow top baseball writers like heyman, passan, olney, etc.

That's great, but these are writers that actually talk to people involved in the organizations.

As I said, not just some random fanboy poster.

I'm not comparing 2021 to 2018, but both teams came back the n ext year, largely intact, but s*** the bed.

He hasn't posted anything a while specifically designed to provoke you.

You cannot make the same claim.

And when you two were cluttering the board with your little pissing matches, I did call on both of you to stop.

You sometimes have good stuff to add here; stick to doing that.

Is that where that asshat went?

I met Heyman nearly 40 years ago; he lived in the apartment next to mine when he first started out as a sportswriter for the Moline Dispatch. He was an arrogant putz. I was pretty good friends with his boss and his boss agreed with my assessment.

Will do, but he has made several comments, but just hasn’t used my name, but I know they are for me, so he’s not as innocent as you think, but I will refrain.

Better hope the first four words of the rumor aren't because of the last three.

Eric Hosmer - Low Risk, Low Reward

He can go on the Panda Sandoval in the North End diet and it won't impact the 2023 Sox. They can just DFA him at anytime.

Is there no hope Hosmer can give us medium reward?

Doesn't get much respect, does he?

He doesn't need to do much to earn a minimum salary.

He hasn't had a season above 1 fWAR since leaving KCR. I don't think Fenway necessarily suits him. Can he be a 1 fWAR guy in a platoon role? At a minimum salary, that's good.
