I won't overthink the rankings. But Abreu has a cannon arm in RF and while there is a very wide range of outcomes - a solid starting RF outcome is certainly possible, and that would be a win for renting out Vazquez. The other dude has been so productive that you can't ignore it - but Marwin Gonzalez feels like a high end outcome.

Cursed comment.

So Bloom couldn’t talk on the phone from Houston? Sounds like anther excuse to me.As Lou Merloni said that was pretty much unheard of.

Consider the source.

Consider the facts. Bloom should have been in that clubhouse in Houston telling Vaz, and the rest of the team was was going on.

Bloom has all of John Henry's people skills.

That's not his job. That's Cora's.

And per reports, Cora was talking to Vaz and Vaz was aware of the situation. Vaz knew he was traded and requested to hit bp one more time in a Sox jersey before being ambushed by the media.

That's a great cover up story, the look on vaz's face told a completely different story......

Does anyone know why Vazquez was traded??? I dont get it??? To free up payroll??? Im not sure what he was getting paid but Id assume he was worth every penny....IMO

The current rumor is that he was Bloom's most vocal critics in the clubhouse. How true that is, is questionable at this point.

Maxbialystock enumerated the possible baseball reasons for Vaz being traded, mostly defensive ones. It certainly has nothing to do with his hitting.

I think Bloom needs to get over himself then and stop getting rid of good players....I don't see why they couldn't have kept Vazquez and added Hosmer....Would be looking pretty solid with that..

Considering how well Vazquez could hit, I still think his defense was good enough...He was one of the best all around catchers in the league today, and through the past decade, I think....

I find it hard to believe Vaz was ambushed by the trade.

Rumors of his deal to Houston had already been circulating for a couple hours, and while I don’t know about Vazquez personally, I do know there are players who follow this kind of thing online. It’s a safe bet even if Vazquez didn’t see any rumors, one of his teammates did…

The look on vaz's face said otherwise, he was dazed and confused.....

I have my doubts there is any truth to this.

I’d bet there is a significant chunk of players who are critical of the GM, and certainly they don’t all get traded. Even if Vazquez was critical of Bloom, is there any reason to believe he’s the most critical player?

This sounds like Internet conspiracy BS that likes to focus on finding a villain for fans to blame. Vazquez was most likely traded because 1) he has an expiring contract and 2) another team wanted him and was willling to pay the price. Other players met that first criterion, but did anyone else meet the second?

Im sry, but I think Vazquez was a big core piece to this team for the past few years and I don't see why a team would want to remove that. Not sure what Bloom was thinking.....

His offense has been up and down over the years. His defense and staff-handling has been hotly debated.

In his first game at Worcester, Valdez homers to the opposite field! That's what he was thinking...

Franchy, and Duran have been good at Worcester too.

Don't like this move. You trade your starting catcher and get back prospects who might not play until 2-3 years down the road?

Bloom dumping the baby out with the bathwater!!

Are we supposed to cheer for this? How? Our hitting at the catcher position gets worse now right? And we make up for that by trading for Hosmer? Meh.

I'm sure he'll make those minor league fans very happy, all 9000 of them. But how does this help the big league club? It doesn't.

Bloom is in love with prospects. That was his mentality as SVP with the Rays. Unfortunately for fans of the big league club, that doesn't help us a whole lot now.

I'm not a fan of this move either. In the short term the Red Sox get worse. And they were already in the basement. The carrot that Bloom is hanging is - give me 2 more years, it'll get better, I promise! We got prospects!!

You do realize Devers, Bogey, Betts and yes, Vaz, were once prospects guys like you wanted traded away years ago.

Lol what a Strawman argument. Name a single post where I ever said I wanted the likes of Devers, Bogey, or Betts to be traded away. You can't find one cos I never did.

The problem here is that Bloom subtracted a solid core starter at an important position, catcher, and the big league club got worse in the process because all we got back were prospects.

BTW Devers, Bogaerts, Betts were homegrown Red Sox prospects. Bloom has already traded away Betts and is rumored to want to get rid of Bogaerts and Devers in the future. He doesn't give a damn about homegrown prospects.

Bloom's ego demanded that he trade away Vazquez just because of some reported criticism. And I'm hearing that Bogaerts was UNHAPPY with the Vazquez trade as well.

So Bloom's MO is to trade away core homegrown players and piss off current players on the team to satisfy his own ego? OK, chief. 'Genius' moves by Bloom yet again!!

Vazquez isn’t a solid core starter. He’s a decent defensive catcher capable of streaky offense. He had 3 months left before free agency on a team heading in the wrong direction rapidly…

Then why bother hanging onto eo, jd and xbo and then acquire pham and hosmer?

LOL you can talk down Vazquez all you want. He is still leagues better than Reese "Public Wanker" McGuire. And the reason the Red Sox are heading rapidly in the wrong direction is largely in part to multiple FAIL moves likes this by the 'genius' Chaim Bloom.

I’ve heard that one before. Someone is always missing your point.
