Sox are catching the Angels at the right time. They are a good team that is in total disarray . 13 game losing streak ! Maddon gets the ax. Playing without Rendon and Ward . Now Trout gets hurt. They are pressing and stressing . In clutch situations , swinging at pitches a foot out of the zone. Losing games every which way. It will be interesting to see if they can right the ship anytime soon.

Yes, when it comes to baseball it's not always who you're playing, but when you're playing them.

So true, and it's not always about how well or poorly the team was doing immediately before our series.

I’ll give credit where credit is due. It’s been a very good turn around and looking more like the “21” sox than the 20 version

Pitching is still an issue

Bloom is still an issue

Mind boggling that Hernandez goes on the IR and Duran isn’t on the Roster makes zero sense

The Sox are forced to follow the rules. Please try to keep up, troll.

A player sent down, must remain there for 10 days before being called up again.

Does it make sense, now?

The guy who got Whitlock & German for absolutely nothing from the Yanks?

The guy who got Pivetta and Seabold for Workman & Hembree?

The guy who got Wacha and Strahm for only $11M?

The guy who got Schreiber off waivers?

His major "issue" is avoiding getting arrested for grand larceny.

I believe they can come back sooner in case of injuries.

I looked in the rules and found nothing on this.

I think that is only in the playoffs.

Not what I read. We’re the Bra Man, and the Sour Man down 10 days? It didn’t seem like it.theoleballgame.com.

Yes, you are right about Brasier and Sawamura, and they weren't recalled due to anyone going on the IL, either.

"Position-players" who are optioned to the minors generally must remain on Optional Assignment for at least ten days and "pitchers" and a "two-way players" who are optioned to the minors generally must remain on Optional Assignment for at least 15 days. (A "position-player" optioned to the minors during Spring Training generally must remain on Optional Assignment for the first ten days of the MLB regular season, and a "pitcher" or a "two-way player" optioned to the minors during Spring Training generally must remain on Optional Assignment for the first 15 days of the MLB regular season).

EXCEPTIONS: The only exceptions are if the player is traded or claimed off waivers, recalled as the "27th man" for a doubleheader (second game of the doubleheader only if two games were scheduled after a postponed or suspended game from the previous day), or is recalled to replace a player on the MLB Active List (26-man roster) who is traded, claimed off waivers, or placed on the MLB Injured List, Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List, or Paternity Leave List, or the Restricted List (but only pursuant to a suspension or administrative leave resulting from a violation or possible violation of the joint MLB-MLBPA JDV policy or a suspension resulting from a violation of the joint MLB-MLBPA JDPTP policy).

I think Sawamura spent 2-3 days in AAA and Brasier 8 days.

Duran can be recalled, but Cora said he wanted IF to rest Bogey/Devers/Story for a few days. They'll call up someone else in a few days most likely.

Rob Refsnyder to join Boston Red Sox; outfielder is on his way to Anaheim, per sources

I love this type of move.....let's see what these guys got. Always looking for diamond in the rough.

Duran is not getting the call up because Sox will be facing 3 lefty starters in next 4 games. Cora is always thinking.

Houck has changed complexion of Boston 'pen

Good read, in part

After tinkering with Tanner Houck's role multiple times (starter, piggyback reliever) this season, manager Alex Cora has come to the following conclusion: Houck will pitch in the late innings when the game is hanging in the balance.

I think many people on this board asked for the move......

Also, if they have to leave someone on the bench, they'd rather it be Refsnyder than Duran.

But it doesn't appear he's the closer? More like a fireman role?

Still after all these games, and Cora doesn’t have set roles for these guys. It’s been fun with all these wins of late, but they’ve been against bad teams. The lack of a real closer will show up even more when the Sox go back to playing the better teams, and especially that 17 game stretch in July against NY, Tampa, and Toronto, which will mean Houck won’t go. Actually it’s a 23 game stretch with 3 games against the Cubs thrown in.

I think they are stepping up Houck's high leverage appearances, and he hasn't gone more than 2 IP or 30 pitches in his last 4 games.

Strahm can't close every game, unless we spread out our save opportunities. My guess is Houck will get a chance to close, very soon. If he does well, he'll get more and more opportunities.

It looks like Strahm, Schreiber and Houck are reaching or at "reliable" levels, which is something this pen has needed for a while. There were stretches we had none of just one.

DFA Arauz?

He's been number one on my DFA list, for a while, but I don't think they view Fitzy, Sanchez or Downs as a better option.

We've talked about the lack of ML- ready, organization depth in the OF, especially RH'd, but or infield depth is rather shallow, too.

I'd just DFA one of the arms. They have to reduce the number of arms they can have in the pen by Monday anyway.

While I think Arauz is most deserving of a DFA, the weakness at depth in the OF and IF makes releasing a pitcher seem most reasonable, for now.

I doubt it's Brasier, so who, then?
