Flashes of what?!!

He's got an ERA of 6.08 with a WHIP of 1.61 this year and a career ERA of 5.20 and a career WHIP of 1.40.

Not exactly what I would call a building block.

Wrong.

Ok, I hope bloom loves those "flashes" too and signs pivetta to a multi-year contract

Right.

Like I told you pink hats Duran provides a much needed spark as a lead-off hitter!

When Hernandez returns Duran should move to everyday RF and jettison whichever Beer leaguer is hitting below .200 and there’s plenty

If Bloom fails with the above then you know what type of GM you got

The Dalbec experiment needs to end and end quick. Despite the dreadful offense the Defense is now becoming a liability

DFA this stooge

When they acquire JBell let me know

I wondered how long it would take for the stork troll to return. He usually only shows up after prolonged losing stretches, but I guess he was getting antsy.

Now, he acting like he's vindicated after Duran's 50 PAs, this year.

Next, he wants to DFA a guy hitting .821 since May 29th.

Sox in last 28 days... (Not counting today)

.793 Vaz

.712 Duran

Who's your team, STORK?

But we all know you're too much of a pussy to say.

I'm all about player controlled years.....you can't project talent, not all will remain a Red Sox but at least you know who maybe available. I'm counting 'team' option years here.

Controlled through 2028 (six more years after 2022 season)

Trevor Story (he's a terrific fielder and I can see him moved to outfield IF that's what the Sox needs to accommodate someone like Nick Yorke, unless of course he become our next shortstop)

Garret Whitlock

Jarren Duran

Josh Winckowski (looks like a major league pitcher)

Controlled through 2027

Tanner Houck

Controlled through 2026

Bobby Dalbec

John Schreiber (relievers are unpredictable but he sure looks he belongs this year)

Controlled through 2025

Chris Sale

Josh Taylor

Controlled through 2024

Nick Pivetta (Let's wait until season is over but should explore extension if healthy)

James Paxton (has club options for 2023-24)

I'm missing some, like Darwinzon Hernandez (who may never come back) or players I don't consider worthy.

This also shows Bloom has financial flexibility going forward. Very few long term deals on the books. I only see Story, Whitlock and Sale in that category. And Whitlock comes cheap.

I anxiously wait someone like Bello joining this group.

Will Xander join the group? Devers better join this group.

He seems to have forgotten all about his criticisms of Winckowski…

Wait until he has just one bad game...

No more talk of Beni, either.

Graterol gave a game-winning 2 run bomb to the Braves last night. ERA at 4.13.

An older Dodger friend, Jansen, closed it out for the Braves.

And Kimbrel has been no Jansen. Swapping those two (which is in effect what happened) was kind of a strange move by the Dodgers.

Maybe they figured cosers are usually available at the deadline, and if you have to go weak somewhere, the pen is it.

Sound familiar?

It was never in the conversation.

Great! Then for clarification purposes only, just say “no” to trading for or signing kimbrel! No more retreads.

Don't worry, the only retreads Chaim is interested in are cheap ones.

In that case, I would like to add; just say “no” to trading for or signing bard! No more cheap retreads.

Well, now you're really getting picky.

I mean, Nick Pivetta and Michael Wacha are cheap retreads that seem to be doing OK...

Well now you have filled the script on me.

Bullpen arms - no retreads allowed!

Starter arms - retreads and any other type of starter arm are welcome, especially the cheap ones!

And then in the next game, Graterol got the save and Kimbrel the win for the Dodgers, and Jansen had a blown save for the Braves. Baseball is such a fickle game.

The Dodgers/Braves series was a fun one to watch.

Sounds like the correct way to run a baseball team.

Since relief pitchers run so hot & cold, it seems like a good idea to pick up hot ones mid-season rather than sign a bunch of them, go through a trial and error process, and finally get a few that earn their keep.

It does look like Bloom did both given her signed Strahm, Diekman and Robles this off-season…

Yes, and Andriese and others the winter before.

JBJ's grand slam in the ALCS was my favorite moment of that title run. I have replayed that dozens of times. But for the life of me I never understood how his defense made up for his lack of offense. Now it's painfully obvious that his defense is certainly not making up for his constant bad at bats, that is a giant hole in the bottom of the lineup and I'm tired of it.

Duran has been exceptional, he is everything we wanted out of him and more. It would be crazy not to keep him on the active roster and play him in front of JBJ when Kiki returns IMO.

Making up for lack of offense with defense isn't something new. Ozzie Smith is in the Hall of Fame, after all.
