Runs don't get driven in much anymore in a league where contact is tough and runners on 2nd and 3rd and less than 2 outs is not any automatic to score even one run.

It’s not good but understandable

I largely gave him a pass for last year.

This year I'm putting on him. I was uneasy through the whole offseason and all my uneasiness has been borne out in reality.

Rusney Castillo....never materialized...not comparing Rusney to Yoshida, who was a far better bet to perform well at MLB level...What do they have in common? Having to make the adjustment to MLB, not just the hitting side...you have to be able to field in MLB and run the bases...well, Yoshida not very good at both.

When the Sox become what we term "unwatchable." That's a feat on itself. I loved this franchise, the teams for years and years even when it was Jimy World and back in the Brunansky homer-less Sox...this team is just not very good and not fun to watch.

This is it. Yoshida has been revealed to be an expensive DH who does not hit a lot of home runs.

And Bloom went over the tax line in 2022 and got 78 wins out of it.

So they're reversing course because that strategy obviously doesn't work. Choose a lane.

Bro, seriously with the Yoshida criticism? He's an above average hitter on a decent contract for the current market. There are many more hills to die on.

That is literally the exact opposite of what's happened this year in MLB. K's are down, BA is up, contact is up.

The love for exotics worked somewhat with Dice-K, but throwing a ton of money at an unknown "veteran" is asking for a chance that the experiment falls flat. I'd rather have a proven MLB veteran player...why? Well, proven and MLB experience ready...you can't discount this in winning baseball. You better have talent and you better have veteran leadership. I don't think the Sox have either.

Not going to win the title. You better have some power hitting, you better have aces on the hill, a great pen. The contact is up, but what kind of contact? Look at the number of .300 hitters out there...I can count them on 2 hands.

Under .200 hitters are an epidemic today...so many that they have to be used in regular lineups. Hitting under .200 now evaluated on OBP, HR, RBI...you can be Kyle Schwarber today and be valuable. But if you are .250 hitter who can't hit for power or RBI, what are you? Not doing much for your team.

Yoshida has an .827 OPS and 121 OPS+ after an absolutely brutal adjustment period at the start of the season. His performance has been worth every penny and he's a good bet to actually improve on his numbers as he gets acclimated to the states. On a team with Kike f***ing Hernandez making 10mm a year to stink up the joint, Yoshida's the guy we're whining about? C'mon now.

Yoshida has never played this many games...if he plays out the regular season...143 in Japan...okay, great...in Japan

He's not an above average player. He's an expensive DH, plain and simple.

I guess the reason I'm so critical might be because I'm getting tired of hearing about Bloom not having any money to throw around.

Japanese teams play 143 regular season games plus playoffs.......

What?

You are not going to win with the model the Sox have...they have put their eggs in one basket on Devers...who has performed incredibly well RBI, HR wise...after that hard-pressed to find another consistent power hitter....very proud of Devers to do what he has done without guys surrounding him.

Yoshida has a .676 OPS in June.

Hopefully he turns it around in July. I'm not cheering against the guy.

He's playing the field and has a 121 OPS+. And in the second sentence, you're telling us how you really feel.

This is a flawed roster. We all know this.

He shouldn't be playing the field. But Bloom signed another DH in Turner. A lot of it comes back to Bloom's bizarre team construction, I guess.

His legacy may be identifying, drafting and signing a lot of adolescent yet toolsy position players who develop into big leaguers...

... but Bloom sucks at assembling rosters fit for competing in the majors.

Yoshida will be here long term, Turner will not.

A sensible take.

True, but if Turner exercises his option for 2024 we're looking at the same thing next year.

If you are the person responsible for constructing a roster to compete at the major league level, and you are not capable of doing it seems kind of like you possibly shouldn't be the person in charge.

That's a fixable problem, and one of the lesser ones with this roster.

Bloom added the Story albatross to the Sale albatross to keep it company.

Bloom spent over $100 mill on a DH, essentially the same amount that DD spent on Martinez. We'll see if Yoshida matches Martinez in production.

So $90mill = $110mill?

Also JD was worth 1.0 fWAR last year. Yoshida already has 1.3 fWAR…

I'm sorry moon, as far as my POV or anyone else's, it's still an apology Bloom tour in here. Other than Bellhorn and a few others, all I'm hearing are what great moves Bloom is making, and how poor Chaim is hamstrung by the "Prime Directive" of an owner who checked out long ago...4 titles was more than enough after 86 years of none. Mission accomplished. This team will suck for years to come...or they get a real GM, get some real game-changer players and some quality aces....adapt or die...right now, it's in hospice care.
