It's a small victory to celebrate that Benitendi is off to a bad start with the Yankees. A short lived victory, I doubt he stays below his career .782 OPS for very long.

But that's nothing compared to the pile of dog crap Bloom has served on a platter to the Red Sox faithful.

Poopoo platter anyone? Oh we have no choice but to dine on this crap cos that's what our current GM has served up. We didn't get better, we probably got slightly worse. But hey we have a couple more prospects in the minors now! Hail Chaim Bloom! What a baseball "genius"!! *smh*

Small bad samples have been known to turn to big ones. Just ask Gallo.

Would you rather have the players the Yankees got in their trades, or the players the Red Sox got in their trades? Cash beat Bloom to the punch with Rizzo last year, and were smart enough to resign him. Did the Red Sox need a 1B the first 100+ games of the year? I guess not according to Bloom. Franchy was good enough.

As your buddy moon drills into you all the time, it's a small sample size.

He’s only a Yankee until November. His entire career in pinstripes will likely be a small sample size.

In any event, right now he is not representing the immediate OF upgrade the Yankees were looking for…

Well, at least he didn't sign Suzuki!

BTW how come you stopped updating that thread? :D

It's a case of too little too late. Hosmer is better than Dalbec, but only because Dalbec is SO BAD.

Meanwhile adding a 34 yo outfielder who barely hits .700 OPS 'improves' a pathetic OF. Maybe we can get JBJ's .578 OPS bat out of the lineup now and again. OOF.

Red Sox fans are being delusional if they feel the Yankees didn't just have a MUCH BETTER trade deadline than the Red Sox.

And all this is before dumping our starting catcher for a bag of chips and a couple of minor league prospects. But I'm sure there will be posters PRAISING Bloom's 'forward thinking' as another 'genius' move!

Yeah poor Bloom had to settle for Schwarber last off-season. And he had to suffer that humiliation all the way to the ALCS. Rizzo took the Yankees that far, too, right?

Why would I need to? It's over. We gave up a 30 home run bat and received a .578 OPS bat in return. JBJ absolutely blow chunks. FACT.

If you really need an update let's look right now:

Hunter Renfroe is chilling with an .816 OPS and 19 homeruns for the Brewers. Gee why can't we get those kinds of players, OH cos Bloom TRADES them AWAY!

Suzuki is currently batting a .766 OPS with 8 homeruns which tops ALL Red Sox outfielders.

But the money is already sunk into Trevor Story who BROKE his wrist and is out for 1 month. Keep in mind we paid 6/140m dollars for a 2nd baseman who has batted .710 OPS and has been EXPOSED outside of Coors field.

Happy? I'm sure not. Bloom's continued FAIL moves just keep making our Red Sox Worse. The Trade Deadline has been a disappointment.

Do you really believe Schwarber was Bloom’s first option? He took Schwaber bad hamstring, and all only after Rizzo got scooped up by the Yankees.

Yes, that damn Story's wrist, getting in the way of a pitch like that. And Bloom should have known it would happen.

That’s the best comeback you got.

Typical strawman deflection. Story was sucking without the broken wrist. The injury just adds to the misery of the move. Which was an opportunity cost FAILURE to improve the outfield cos we dropped big bucks and OVERPAID for a .710 OPS 2nd baseman who can't hit outside Coors field.

What is your point? That Bloom “settled” for Schwarber?

Schwarber was a big part of the Sox postseason run. Interesting you value winning trade deadlines and media grades on deals more than winning postseason games…

Would you care to make a wager that he ends up with a higher OPS than gallo did in his time with the Yanks?

Story was still one of the most productive bats in the lineup and has been a revelation defensively. Not real sure why you’re trashing that move…

I've got 140 million reasons.

You don't pay that kind of money for just a good defensive infielder. Those are a dime a dozen.

You pay that kind of money for a premium bat that has the good defense included. Bloom's evaluation as typical was off. He overpaid for an aging infielder who can't hit outside of Coors field.

Has the man never heard of Park Factors?! *SMH* But of course some fans are so EAGER to find excuses for the 'baseball genius'.

One of the most productive bats in an underperforming line up doesn't really say all that much.

Paying $20M this year for an OPS+ of 93 is not exactly a feather in hang 'em chaim's cap.

And he only gets more expensive from here on out.....

Bloom did settle for Schwarber, and no one can predict what would have happened if Rizzo would have been obtained instead. I will agree that Schwarber was a big part of the PS run. I didn’t know we were talking about grades on Schwaber, but definitely could have used a real 1B the first 100 games this year did we not?

Team started 10 20 with 8 blown saves No closer but you have a Coors field 2B until age 34 at 20 plus

Jansen (1 yr 16) should have been the target he signed late if Orlando offered him 20 you don’t think he would have signed here?

What part of this don’t you understand?

Who would you sign to $140M/6, if you had to choose one?

Player A:

.873 Home

.756 Away

Player B:

.972 Home

.752 Away

Or, is it pretty close?

Every GM has a budget . How it is spent is what matters. There is no use crying about old contracts . Every team that takes risks has them. This year , we are paying Story about 22 mil. Hill - 5 mil. Wacha - 7 mil. Barnes - 9 mil. That is 43 mil right there. Are we getting our money's worth ? Could that money have been better spent ?

And every single GM could have spent their winter budget better, in hindsight.

Also, this was the first winter Bloom was allowed to go large and long on anyone, and Story's deal is about 1/8th completed.

Did Bloom get his money's worth from Whitlock, Schreiber, Refsynder, Strahm, Pivetta, Wacha and others?

Could that money have been spent worse?

Nice try, but Story now plays all his games away from Coors. Before it was only half.

Here is the bottom line : The Sox are in last place . 17 games behind the Yankees . That is not a good job and not acceptable to most Red Sox fans.

There seems to be many bottom lines around here, lately.

The problem is most Red Sox fans aren’t on here, but even then some don’t want to here it.

For all the Coors experts: what factor there causes a batter to strike out 105 times in 307 at bats in a new park and league? Does Coors have a special sky or batter's eye background that makes it easier or better to see a pitched baseball?

I’m no expert, but the word on the street is that batted balls travel farther, and breaking balls break less, because of the high altitude. Of course that doesn’t explain why Story has had such a hard time hitting good fastballs this year.
