He might e in the August rotation this year…

If we trade Eovaldi, Wacha and Hill?

I have him, at best, third in the pecking order behind Seabold and Winckowski.

Depends on where the sox are. They just won two series in a row and face the slumping M's for 4, 3 vs the middling White Sox then 5 vs BAL and 2 vs Cincy. This is where the sox have their best chance to claw back to .500

That'd be an aggressive assignment. One we haven't seen from Bloom before. It's not out of the realm of possibility, I guess.

The only way I see Bello in Boston in August is if the sox rebound and are in contention and lose a starter to injury

I doubt they'd do it, even if we needed a 5th starter.

We also have Sale and Paxton looking to rehab after the deadline.

It’s very possible that the Sox get back into the WC mix and we never see Sale and Paxton. Bello is already on the 40 man roster…

He's also only thrown a max of 117 innings in a season. If he's starting in August, it's going to be on a pretty big innings limit IMO. They will baby him and they will be right to do so.

More likely he's up and throwing bullpen innings.

Yes, possible, but it's not like Seabold and Winckowski are struggling.

Possibly. But is his career high in IP all that different than Whitlock’s? And babying him would fit right in with a few other SP, including Whitlock and (for some odd reason) Hill.

I do think he’s behind Seabold and Winckowski on the SP depth chart, but I don’t think he’s completely off the radar…

Whitlock threw 120 a few years ago and hasn't gotten back up there since the injury. Since Bello has been injury free (from what I remember), they may choose to have him go to 130-150 innings this year.

Seabold and Winckowski do not have the ceiling that Bello does.

He's only at 34, now, so it could be possible he might be below 120 by August.

No, but they look more Ml ready, as of now. I'm kinda surprised we have not seen one get a chance, by now.

So he throws 2-3 starts and is shut down? Ok?

I thought one of them would have started last Sunday, but they went with the brilliant Austin Davis start instead. Shows what I know.

I'm not sure how they'd use him, if he is on an innings count- maybe in long relief. Maybe a few spot starts.

If Bello is up, it means we had a fire sale, and it would be all about exposure to the bigs and building confidence while getting a better read about what we can expect from some of our ML ready farm hands.

I'm not sure Bloom sees him as being ML ready, now, but maybe by August things will have changed.

Well, didn't they just go 2 IP in their previous start to ready them for a call-up? You weren't alone in that thinking.

I think that was a sign they are thinking both are ML ready, and then both just had another nice start.

It looked like they were lined up to fill in. Not sure why they went with a bullpen game. I think they need to fast track Houck to that closer role.

I have been saying that since the day we drafted him.

Singing to the choir.

Call up Winckowski to be the long man, if needed, but name a damn closer!

I think scouts aren't sold on Wickowski being more than a 4/5 at best in his career, but still not having a named closer is kinda wild.

I don't want to see Robles in the 9th again. A part of 2022 dies every time that happens.

A 4/5 starter sounds just about right for a long relief man.

The bullpen has blown 11 saves in 19 attempts, I think. And yet Cora keeps trotting Robles out there in the 9th inning. Cora must have the highest threshold for inflicting pain on a fan base of any manager ever!

Not really Cora's fault his top 3 righty relievers going into the year were Barnes, Brasier and Robles.

That’s on Bloom, but the fact that Cora hasn’t put Whitlock, or Houck as the closer says to me he doesn’t think it’s important, and focuses more on who’s piggybacking. I keep saying that those blown saves are gone for good, and so aren’t the wins that goes along with it, and not to mention there is likely more to come.

Over Whitlock and/or Houck?

Don’t forget until the new CBA agreement, Sale was still assumed to be an active pitcher and a member of the rotation with Eovaldi, Pivetta, Wacha and Hill. And once they learned Sale broke himself again, that only bumps one of the two into the rotation…

... it says to me the organization and Cora's boss won't let him. Do you honestly think any manager is concerned about stretching out young pitchers so they can be part of a future core the manager might never be around for?

The plan with Whitlock was obviously to make him a starter.

The plan with Houck is more of a head-scratcher.

We'll see some sort of resolution to this soon, I think. But of course I'm a managerial Pollyanna.
