Earliest possible date is April 1 , an appropriate date for all the April Fools still thinking it will get settled. I still am expecting a handshake on March 16 followed by a 30 day , Ready, Set, Go for an April 16 opening.

I think 30 days is enough for ST. I wonder if they will even start this season with expanded rosters to help the pitchers?

I'm thinking that it's going to take a month for the amount of money the owners and players are losing to 'hit home'. I voted for the first two weeks in May.

It's going to take at least three more months just to arrive at a middle figure for the new money pool for good first or second-year players. And this is just for one issue between owners and players. That is, if both sides keep counteroffering in $5 million dollar increments...

... or they can logically decide to compromise soon, so we can all stop being diverted from our diversions!

@JeffPassan

It depends on next week. MLB set a Feb. 28 deadline to start opening day March 31. Certainly if there's a deal, say, March 3, MLB will figure out how to start on time. But unless real, substantive progress comes -- and we haven't seen any to this point -- then it may be a while.

@PeteAbe

The #RedSox were supposed to be playing @GoNUbaseball right now in Fort Myers.

Probably would have seen a lineup with Yorke, Casas, and some of the other young guys.

NU switched up and is playing U. of Minnesota today at Hammond Stadium instead.

Opening Day occurred on Saturday when the New England Revolution secured a 2-2 tie at the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer play.

Last year the Revolution posted the league's best regular-season before losing in playoffs. Portland had an inconsistent 2021 regular season before advancing to the MLS Cup where the Timbers lost at home in the title match.

Major League Soccer could provide at least a temporary diversion during the MLB lockout.

Yea for all the people fed up with the pace of play of baseball, we now bring you soccer!!

And if that’s too much, maybe watch the New England Deluxe Satins open their season against the Detroit Glossy Reds as the Natuonal Paint Drying League season poises to open!

The atmosphere at a typical MLS match is far more energetic than the atmosphere at a typical MLB game.

Save baseball, football and basketball for folks whose continence issues require frequent commercial breaks.:)

The NFL really does need to break away from their heavy advertising deals with Cialis and Viagra and start new deals with Cottonelle and Angel Soft…

I think in whatever you call that sport with the octagonal ball, one must distinguish the atmosphere in the stands from whatever it is one would call the 'action'? on the field.

In soccer the substitute does not get a series of warmup kicks and the goaltender does not adjust his gloves each time the ball is touched.

Baseball is a slow, cerebral game while the action in soccer is relatively nonstop.

Per MLB, if a deal isn't done today, the season will not start on time and the games won't be made up.

I don't really mind a shortened season, but all teams must play the same amount of games.

No more losing the playoffs to the Tigers by a half game, ever again!

I would have liked a real season. We just had a shortened season 2 years ago…

It's almost like the baseball powers don't care much about us.

Is that what you're rooting for?

I think the regular season is too long. I'm not rooting for lost games though. I think Opening Day should be April 15th going forward.

If that happens then both sides deserve to lose money.

I said it back in 72, and it still holds true today, but how insane was that the powers at be didn’t make sure everyone played the same amount of games.

And this year is the 50th anniversary!
