Sale sucks, no doubt but our offense is not lethal. We could have finished this up in the first inning and we didn’t.

I don't think anything would have been "finished" in the first inning, but do agree Devers and Renfroe stunk.

A 5-6 run lead is most of the times a secure win when Sales “pitches”

Houck throwing like he’s got nothing to lose.

Cause he actually has nothing to lose…. BUT he is a very good pitcher.

The Rays won 100 games this year. They are the better team. When we ended the Yankees season I felt that anything else would be gravy.

In a year or two we will be competitive for a ring. Just not this year.

Agree on the Rays. Agree the wild card win was terrific. But do not agree it necessarily follows it's OK for the Sox to lose the first two games so ignominiously. The Sox won 92 games to the Rays 100, which to me does not translate into getting slaughtered and made fools of.

What must be galling for both the Yankmees and the Sox is that you could put together something like 5 compete Rays squads for what the Yankmees or Sox alone are paid. But yes, I said that the Rays were better earlier this season and last night for that matter. Not sure those comments are much appreciated here. Does not make them less true.

The money to buy your way out of problems often becomes the self fulfilling prophecy of "this is how we roll". I actually don't have issue with the feast or famine 21st century Sox with exception of famine meaning last place. Certainly something to be said for the way the Rays do it.

My point was and is that Cora has in fact used Pivetta, and he used him before he used Sale. Besides, there is no way he doesn't start Sale in game 2. If you shift Sale to game 3, that means Eovalid doesn't pitch until game 4 which might never come.

I understand what you meant, but my point was that Sale would not start at all. Short rest, long rest, or any rest I don’t think would make a difference with Sale right now.

Sales lasted 2.2 innings five days ago against the weak-hitting Nats. Sale had the same problem then he had tonight--no changeup, which is pretty vital for a lefty facing a bunch of righty bats. Moreover, Sale has never been very good in the postseason.

Sox have one pitcher and he got burned in the WC game. You won’t see what Sale can be until next year, but prior to tearing his elbow, he was not able to locate the higher velocities like he could before his shoulder issue. He seemed to be “humping it up” to get it above 94 and sacrificed location for velocity. That’s what you saw last inning, that plus an utter loss of a change up. Ultimately, velocities have risen and hitters have adjusted to the better velocity meaning that it’s less important for Sale to try and hump it up to the upper register and more important for him to locate and change speeds. This off-season will be important for Sale. He needs to add a pitch he can locate, maybe a 2 seamer to give something that runs away from righties.

Geez guys, I was not going to go on the game thread and bring out all the negativity but you are dumping all over Chris Freakin' Sale , bumming me out .game over already ?? Hardly, we still have 20 outs to come back with and Devers almost got a big hit . Hang in there

In other words??? In other words??? The lady..... is a tramp?

Yeah... ripped to center..... caught. Of course. Gimme a break.

Keirmaier made that look more difficult than it was. Look at the beginning when he started his route he slowed down and then picked it back up to showboat that catch

Baz still not really making pitches. Wonder how long he is for this game. Cash has got to be getting itchy.

Whoops...Cash is scratching that itch right now.

Weren’t you advocating starting him against the Nats last Saturday (on short rest)?

I would bet that next year Sale will be very good. And if the Sox make the postseason he will finally get the monkey off his back.

We need a couple more very good SPs and a better pen. Might take two years.

I'd say that these days the Rays are the gold standard except I think the right word might be something less expensive. Aluminum standard? In any case, what we are seeing is that talented guys are out there who don't insist on being paid $30M a year while recovering from tommy john surgery or whatever. Young guys, intelligently scouted, developed, and coached, can play pretty good ball.

He does that. It was mentioned when JBJ was here and how Jackie would just get to the spot and catch it while Kiermaier often added unneeded embellishment.

The pen isn’t the issue right now.
